Batman Superbowl trailer... revealing Scarcrow?

Hm.

Spoiler for Those Who Have Read The Script (highlight to read): Having read the screenplay, I think the trailer might show too obviously the well hidden secret, that Ducard actually IS Ras Al Ghul, the main baddie. The script sells Watanabe as the main villain, or lures the audience into believe that he is, but they seem to skip that in their promotional campaign. Not a good step. Plus, they show well too much. Should've been more decent.

And I wonder why Nolan puts the Scarecrow in there. That's like revealing Jaws in the theatrical trailer, you can't do that.

I loved everything about Bat 5 to this point, but I don't like the moneyshot aspect of this promo.

edit: Note to myself: learn how to spell ScarEcrow

Oooo...don't want to give away the spoiler, but man oh man I'm psyched for this movie. I didn't know they were going to have a trailer during the Super Bowl. I'll be keeping an eye out for that.

Umm this description seems kinda long to squeeze into a 30 second commercial. Is WB gonna spend millions on just one 1.5 minute trailer for showing it just once? If it is true, other people have had trailer descriptions where they would have extra scenes that got cut out of the final trailer.

Seems kinda fishy.

WB might debut it on Super Bowl Sunday but use it afterward on a regular rotation during all programming. WHo knows.

I guess the theatrical poster didn't do it enough.

It's more like revealing Gandalf in THE TWO TOWERS trailer.

Or Vader in the EPISODE III teaser.

Or Lawrence of Arabia in the LAWRENCE OF ARABIA trailer.

Oh wait....

There's a difference. Before TTT and SW, we already knew how those guys looked. We don't know how Christopher Nolan's Scarecrow looks like, so there you go.

I was always a big fan of that character in the animated series and since it was announced that he's in the new movie, he's the most interesting character from an upcoming movie I'm looking forward to. To me, it's the biggest money character of Batman Begins and I'm absolutely hyped for that moment. Nolan showed Ras months ago, the new costume, the logo and even the car, holding the Scarecrow as said money mystery in his pocket. Now execs put a gun on his back and force them to promote the flick with "the other cool thing", which is that badass second villain. Let there be anything "great" left in the movie for the audience to find out for themselves.

By the way, from the running pr campaign, most folks over here in europe never heard of Ras al Ghul and wonder if there's any specific villain at all. I'd have liked to see the other villain in the promos instead, Carmine Falcone. Gangster Mob. Ninja Cult. Batman. Batmobile. Lots of Action. Sells the movie, and then in there you additionally find a surprisingly cool and original villain. That'd be better. Seriously.

And I did NOT like to see Vader in the Episode 3 trailer. You gotta save such moments for the theater. Nowadays they tend to give all the greatest shots away in the trailer, months before the movie. That is something for the official list of things that suck.

eTrade spent $1 million on a commercial lasting 30 seconds during halftime. The commercial featured two rednecks, a boombox, and a monkey for 28 seconds (the monkey came in, turned on the boombox, and danced while the rednecks clapped along). They followed it up with "well, that was a waste of a million dollars" and then their logo. And, apparently, it aired only then, only once, except on "Best of Super Bowl Commercials" specials.

Do not underestimate exactly how much just showing anything once on TV does.

So I can see Warner Bros. running the Batman Begins Super Bowl spot the same way they ran the Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions Super Bowl spot. Only once or twice through the entire game. Considering that this seems to be their planned tentpole picture for all of 2005, they'd be willing to throw away several million dollars to show it once or twice, leaving everyone the next day to go "Did you see that Batman preview? Holy shit."

Yep, but I do agree that they should hold off, and not blow their load in trailers.
