Mind you, they were healthy portions, just not obscene ones like you get at some restaurants. Still, when I finished that food I was so stuffed that I thought they'd have to get a cart to wheel me outta there.

Of course, it doesn't help that I'm addicted to Mango Lassi, which for those who don't know is a yoghurt drink and is by itself fairly filling.
I think part of the reason it is so filling is because most of it is so damn spicy, my taste buds can only handle so much at one time. Whenever I get Indian I get the smallest available portion of vegetable curry (no rice, the rice at most indian places I've been to has this funky texture to it I don't like) along with two tiny samosas and I can almost never finish it. Oh man this thread is giving me a craving...

Certainly a possibility. It could also be that the recipes are changed slightly to better fit our tastes, and that's why we tend to think that the restaurants are better, a slightly Euro-centric (or America-centric) view of the culinary world if you will.

Just as many still do today, with their fingers.

My fav of all time is lamb nehari with pilau rice and ghobi aloo for a side dish

Vegtable Samosas, Shahee Paneer, Aloo Gobi, Dal and Tandoori Naan.

Any Vancouver Chewers should check out the Kabana restaurant in Surrey. Don't remember the exact location but if you go northish up Scott Road you can find it. Absolutely fantastic food.
