The Original Ninfa's in Houston on Navigation Street will OWN YOU

Your favorite Tex-Mex!

That Ninfas is good. There's also one downtown called El Tiempo that's good, and it's close to Cabos, where the drinks are stellar but the food is lacking.

In Raleigh, we have several tex-mex places, but they're all really similar. I prefer El Rodeo.

Cabo's is terrible, but the damn kids seem to think it's actually good.

I hate chain Mexican food places. I like to go to the places where the staff doesn't speak English and the TVs are set to Spanish soccer games. There's a local place called Coco Loco that I love that makes this amazing hot sauce out of straight-up, pureed jalepenos. Yummm.

The Ninfa's chain isn't terrible, but Ninfa's on Navigation is the first Ninfa's to exist, and it's easily better than the rest of the chain.

I found the margharitas to be exceptional, but the food wasn't.

Every Thursday is Mexican Thursday in our office.. we take lunch down at Pepino's, the best Mexican joint in town. I'm even referred to as the "Mexican Thursday Coordinator" by the rest of the staff.

Every Tuesday I go to Netties, a small family-owned place in South Omaha (aka Little Mexico, as my friend calls it). Best damn chili in existance, even hotter than their hot sauce. Goes great with a chicken enchilada.

I went to the Ninfa's in Austin and it was quite tasty.

My favorite local place is Los Amigos, on Mt. Vernon Ave. (Del Ray) in Alexandria.

If you are in the Houston area, the best chain is owned by the Pappas brothers, Pappasito's. Of course they own chains of almost every kind of food here, but they are usually some of the best are far as chains go.

Not crazy about the "tex" part, but for Mexican, there's none better than this local place called Taqueria Los Hermanos. Great chips and salsa. Astounding carne asada. Everything is fresh, healthy, marinated, and well-presented. And the tres leches is the best dessert in existence.

My number one thing I miss about Houston. Many a Sunday afternoon/evening was spent there, although the Cafe Adobe on Westheimer still has the best margharitas in Houston (great place to have a cold drink on a summer afternoon). There's another place just inside the loop on Ella that comes close to Ninfa's for food and atmosphere (if I remember correctly the name of the place is Tony's).

Still haven't found a decent Tex-Mex down here in Florida (some very good Cuban restaurants though).

I've eaten at Ninfa's three times--each time resulted in me getting horribly ill the day after. About two years ago the one in College Station was closed down peremenetly due to the one two hit of a) getting a poor rating from the Health Department and b) getting caught serving alchohol to minors.

Needless to say, my Ninfa's experiences are pretty negative.

There's one in College Station called Cazzador's, and it is divine. We also have a locally owned resturant called Mi Coscina, but their food has decreased in quality since they've become popular.

Sure, Pappasito's, Chuy's, Ninfa's, &c. are all great, but where is the love for 2 AM trips to Taco Cabana for tortillas and queso?

When my wife and I moved up here to Connecticut, we searched everywhere for decent Tex-Mex. It took us a few years of disappointed indigestion, but finally we found Jalapeno Heaven. The biggest problem up No'th is that everyone's capsaicin tolerance is so low.

I love how in RTP there are a couple of chains El Rodeo's and El Dorado's. Guess what? The food is exactly the same!

The Flying Burrito in Chapel Hill is a fav of mine.

There's a place like that here called Arizonas, and they have the blandest tacos known to man. It's bad when I would prefer a Taco Bell taco to one of theirs. They have a spinach enchillada that is out of this world, I'm pretty sure that is for the low calorie people, but still darn tasty.

I live within walking distance of Celia's Mexican Cantina. A great place for fajitas but to tell the truth I only have the urge for mexican about once a month because of heartburn so I haven't visited many other mexican places near where I live.

This may be a little off topic but it figures to be somewhat worth mentioning. There is a nearby mexican butcher shop that mostly sales only mexican style cuts of meat that has already been seasoned by the owner. These guys have the best skirt steak I have ever had. They are best cooked over charcoal as is everything and served up with some home made pico de gaio. They also sell home made tortillas, which is a must have.

Not really a whole lot of good Tex-Mex here, but damn there's some good Mexican places. One in Orange City, called La Hacienda, is damn fine, you get a ton of food, and it's cheap (like Mexican food should be). There's another in New Smyrna Beach called Mi Mexico...fucking fantastic.

As a guilty pleasure, I LOVED Chevy's, but they call closed (except for one down in the tourist part of town...fuck that)...their fajitas were the tits.

There's a little place in my hometown called Maria's Mexican Cafe. Two chicken quesadillas for $4.50, and they're the best that you could ever have.

As far as Ninfa's, i've been to the one in downtown Atlanta many times. The one just off of Peachtree Street near the Hyatt. The food is good, and my wife loves the "green" sauce for dipping the tortilla chips. Strange though, is that most of the time I've been there has been on the weekend, and NO ONE is in downtown Atlanta on the weekend (unless there's a Falcons game or a big concert going on). I went one time during lunch during the week at lunch and couldn't get a seat. Damn businessmen.

I totally forgot about that place. I don't get to Chapel Hill much, and I get that one confused with Margaret's Cantina.

What's the name of the place in Carborro where they have all those weird salsas? I love the pineapple one.
