Snowboarding

I first delved into this sport about 7 years ago and haven't looked back since. Having conquered all the local (most of the well known Ontario/Quebec) parks, I'm leaving with my friends to hit Whistler/Blackcomb in British Columbia in about two weeks. All I've heard is that the backtrails on these two mountains will leave any experienced skiier or snowboarder crap-less.

Nevertheless, I'm completely (for a lack of a better word) stoked to go and I'm looking for some general comments on the trails at the resort and also just general comments on the sport from anybody on the boards.

Dress warmly. Whistler can get cold as fuck. You might want to invest in one of those mask things, my brother almost got frostbite on his chin while snowboarding there a couple years ago.

I live in Vancouver and as of right now, it is way warmer than normal with tons of rain, not snow. It is +14 degrees and most of the local hills are shut down due to the extremely heavy rain. I would call Whistler to confirm that they are going to be open and if the conditions are OK.

I'm probably going for my first time sometime next month. Never been skiing either, but I do play hockey and everyone says I shouldn't have too much of a problem picking it up.

I've gone snowboarding twice. The first time was in Aspen, which is always a great place to learn. I definitely need to do it more often as its a great workout and a lot of fun.

Snowboarders are THE most annoying contemporary subculture (at least in BC). No denying the fun, though. I'd do it more often if it wasn't so expensive (and hard on the knees). Fuckin' lobotomized rich white kids with cell phones and an attitude piss me off when I'm skiing.

PS: Ski conditions are still non-existent on the coast. I'd book at an interior resort.
