Looking for Horror movies that place in many-roomed, but contained places.

Yeah, I know, this is a semi-weird request, but my wife and I are in the mood for some horror movies (that are out on DVD) that take place in contained areas.

Things like mansions, psych-wards, boats, etc.

These don't have to be good movies by any means, we're up for just about anything, although you are welcome to share your opinions.

We've probably seen most of the more well-known ones, so more obscure ones might be better, but feel free to toss out anything.

Foreign movies are great as well, although we want to get them this week, so region 1 would be preferable.

Thanks in advance for feeding our horror movie needs!

Well, the first one that came to mind was Alien, but something tells me you have seen that one.

Ginger Snaps: Unleashed takes place in a psych ward for the most part, and a delapidated old house for the last 20 minutes.

A lot of C.H.U.D. takes place underground, and I found the concept behind that really cool. It's a solid little movie that's worth checking out regardless.

Ummm, Deep Blue Sea would fit the bill, it takes place in a little lab underwater for the whole movie. It is not a 'good' movie. Not by any means.

Thanks for the reply. We've seen all of those except C.H.U.D. I've seen parts of it way back in the day on cable, but never saw the whole things straight through.

Some others we've also seen (that fit my above description) that I can think of off the top of my head:
Below
13 Ghosts
Ghostship
House on Haunted Hill
The Shining
The Others
Session 9

Having trouble coming up with more at the moment, but I'll try to edit more in when I have a little more time.

John Carpenter is the king of confined spaces so just about any movie of his will fit your bill. Have you seen The Prince of Darkness?

I have seen over half of Carpenter's movies, but not that one. Just checked it out on imdb and it looks like a winner, I'll let you know what I think after we watch it! Thanks!

-Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Evil Dead? You've probably seen those.

Check out videodrome. It doesn't apply, but it's good nonetheless!

Repulsion!
Most of the film takes place in an apartment where we get to follow the adventures of a mad woman.

Pod is one of my favorites from JC. I hope you guys enjoy it and I look forward to reading your thoughts on it.

For another relatively confined space movie check out Lucio Fulci's The Beyond.

Cube may be the very definition of what you're looking for.

Thanks guys, threw a bunch of those up on netflix this evening.

I've seen some of the "dead" movies, but not all... I can't remember which I've seen and which I haven't, though... I've seen the Evil Dead movies, the new Dawn of the Dead, and I know I've seen the "Send more cops" one... can't remember which that is. I've also seen at least one more, but it has been awhile.

I've seen Cube, but my wife hasn't (which I didn't realize), so we are going to watch that one. Has anyone seen the sequel? Heard bad things about it (and not bad in a good way, which I'm always for, especially in horror movies), but was curious as to what some chewers thought.

Tried to rent Prince of Darkness tonight, but none of the area video stores had it, so alas, it goes up on Netflix, but I'm excited to see it.

Your Videodrome tangent was a good one as Videodrome is a fantastic movie! I need to get the criterion version.

Thanks again for the suggestions, and keep them coming if you think of more!

This may not fit your description but I always thought "A Nightmare on Elm Street 2" was pretty creepy.

Or "House".

kungfumonkeyboy, I highly recommed the episode of the AVENGERS tv series titled THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT ... It's just what you're looking for ( I think ) .......... It is on Volume 4 of the '66 set ( that's the 1966 season ) ...... It's great .....

Another tv show would be the episode of THE OUTER LIMITS called FORMS OF THINGS UNKNOWN ( this is the original, b/w series from the 60s )....

Now, as far as films go ..... check out THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE and HOUSE OF WHIPCORD ...... great stuff

You might check out the original Ju-On: The Grudge. Most of the movie takes place in a two story Japanese house and most definitely has some thrills. I haven't seen the US remake yet, but they used the same director and I understand it came across fairly well.

Cronenberg's Shivers takes place entirely in a high-rise apartment building, and it's disturbing as hell.

Might I also recommend Demons 1 & 2. One takes place in a movie theater, the other in a high rise apartment building. Both are chock full of zombie goodness.

^^^

Good call. I have a soft spot for Demons. Great flick.

Thanks again guys, haven't seen most of those (except Ju-on, The Grudge, and the Nightmare on Elm Street Movies...well, most of them, have the rest on Netflix).

Also, thanks BobClark for the link to the other thread, looks like some good stuff over there as well!

Cube 2 was not as good as tbe orginal. Don't even bother with it, it was very confusing on some aspects. Good movies would be:

Cube
Deep Blue Sea
Hellrasier (the one in space)
Mangler
Running Man(not horror but good sci fi)
Critters
Monster in the closet (funny horror)
Zombie flicks (can't go wrong there)
