Television and film actor Royce Applegate, who appeared in such movies as Splash and The Rookie, died in a New Year's Day blaze that left two firefighters seriously burned, authorities said Thursday:

He also recently appeared in O Brother, Where Art Thou? and he he will appear in two more films this year: Gods and Generals and Talking in Your Sleep, the latter being directed by Danica McKellar, who is best known as Winnie Cooper from The Wonder Years.

Not to sound flippant or insensitive, but by reading further in that atricle, it sounds like more Hollywood folks need to shell out the cash for a smoke detector or two.

He will be missed.

He was in a few eps of Twin Peaks too. He had that "character actor" face, I'm sure he'll be missed.

Why the fuck do we care about the fact that Danica McKellar played Winnie Cooper in The Wonder Years?

Isn't this a thread about an actor's death? Why the need for so much extra info?

He was really good in "The Rookie." His performance added a lot to the small town charm that made the movie so enjoyable.

I may be way off but wasn't this actor the guy who kidnapped the little red haired kid on "Different Strokes." I apologize if I'm wrong but that is one of the many "very special" episodes of "Different Strokes" that has stayed in my head to this day.

No, I don't think you're mistaken. That was the first thing I thought when I saw the guy's pic. I saw that episode like 17yrs ago (!) and I remember the guy who kidnapped Sam. And that Sam's mother poured milk in a way that made a special sound. Pathetic.

Anyway, not to sound flippant either, but that Winnie Cooper is a director now is about the only thing that interested me in the story.
