More Grain of Salt: Gary Oldman in Harry Potter 3 & 4?

I'd seriously doubt that it's Dumbledore (I mean, this is Gary Oldman.) but apparently:

The Dark Side of Gary Oldman reported the following:

Gary Oldman will be playing in the next two Harry Potter movies! I don't have any more details about it at the moment but I have been informed by a reliable source. More details will follow in future updates.

Who will he play? Thanks to 'Wardio' for the alert! - Comingsoon.net
Likewise, take it with a grain of salt.

Two words: Sirius Black
Hmm...he'd make a pretty good Sirius Black (if this is true, naturally). Can't really see him as Lupin. Then again, I don't remember Lupin appearing in the fourth book, while I'm pretty sure that Black at least makes a cameo. So that narrows down the choices quite a bit...

Cool news. Hope it's true.

Yeah, that's the big recurring character. I can't say that I ever pictured him in that role, but hell, he's a damn fine actor.

He's great in the books.

Hell. Yes.

Lupin got tossed at the end of the third book because they parents at the school found out he was a werewolf.

Sirius appears mostly through correspondence with Harry in the fourth book. (Remember, most people still didn't like him so he was on the run.)

I really saw Christopher Walken as Mad-Eye Moody. But, I could go for him as Lupin as well, even if he's a little tall.

Edward Norton should play Lupin. He can do the likable innocent and the slightly unstable loner thing as well as anybody. Sam Rockwell might also be an interesting choice...The actor has got to be somebody who the audience can like without being able to trust 100%...aw, who am I kidding? Everybody on the fucking planet has already read the books. Just cast Michael J. Fox as Lupin and get it over with.

Mad-Eye Mooney won't show up until the "Goblet of Fire" movie, so I doubt we'll hear any casting news on him anytime soon. Walken would be a cool choice, though...

Michael J. Fox? As long as Styles gets to play Sirius Black.

I still see Ewan McGregor as Lupin.

anything gary oldman does i am interested in... but this shall remain to be seen

If it is true, I'm quite sure that Oldman is a capable enough actor to pull off whatever role is required.

I think Oldman could be pretty cool as Sirius Black. somehow I always saw Billy Connolly as Mad Eye Moody.

Dude, have you seen the UK national lottery advertisements, in which Connolly appears to have sold his soul to the devil? <grin>

Oldman is who I envisioned while reading the book myself. I tried to think of a good villian (because he's played as one.) and Olman fits the bill perfectly. I'm glad they're going this route.

I think that if this is true, Oldman will be Sirius. He's a great actor, so I got no beef with this choice, especially considering:

*SPOILER*

He would be great for the role because of he tends to play villains and the audience unfamiliar with the books needs to think that Sirius is evil.

While its probably old Sirius he is playing there are two alternatives that come to mind and appear in both 3rd and 4th books...

Personally I think seeing him in drag as Professor Trelawney would be hilarious.

But then again thats why im on these pills.

::::::::POSSIBLE SMALL SPOILER::::::::

Although he would make an excellent Sirius I think Oldman could do the right kind of nasty to play sniveling little Peter Pettigrew

Either way, Oldman is class, hope to see him in there in some way.
Naw, Pettigrew is a second class character. No way they would put Oldman there. Anyways, that charater is more rat like and I believe a short, fat guy to boot.
Actually if you remember he was losing weight and becoming ill through stress... i will say no more to avoid spoilers for those who haven't read it.
And there is a lot of fairly big actors in roles as more minor characters so theres no reason Oldman would get big billing. Sirius himself takes a big backseat in Goblet.

But I do tend to agree he will most likely be Sirius above anyone else.

everyone seems to be on the Sirius Black kick but I was thinking more along the line of Oldman playing Voldemort.

If he is only signed for 3 and 4 that might be a problem, but I figure Sirius to have a major role in the next ones too.

Oldman is a great bad guy and Voldemort is the baddest (in these books.)

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Oldman is in serious negotiations for the role of Sirius Black. Production on Part 3 begins on February 17.

and I say get Brendan Gleeson for Sirus, McGregor for Lupin, and Paul Bettany as Peter Pettegrew.
