Anyone else here bike?

I just picked up a Specialized Allez Sport 27 road bike last night, and it's damn fine:

Linky if you care

Rode it to work this morning and what a great ride it was. Can't wait to really break it in over the coming month. Also picked up a mountain bike (Specialized Rockhopper) a few weeks ago, and have been hitting the trails with my wife.

I was fortunate enough to be able to upgrade my bikes...makes a night and day difference. Anyone else out there able to ride?

Fucked up my knee a while back. Now everytime I get on a bike my knee starts popping. So I need some surgery to fix things.

Kinda sucks too cause I used to ride my bike at least 2-3 times a week, sometimes 4 times a week.

I ride a Honda VTX 1800, but I think that's a different kind of bike.

I have an Outrider Pro-Class. I bartered a Playstation 1 for it. I used it a bunch in the summer, but as NYC just had a blizzard, I don't have much use for it now. Biking in Prospect Park is great, particularly in the fall, because its so beautiful with the leaves changing color.

I have Santa Cruz Heckler built up with almost all freeride/downhill parts. It's heavy (about 35 pounds or more) but I ride the roads to the trails and use it as a heavy duty trail bike. I do some very light dirt jumping and freeride/street riding on it as well.

I had a GT Aggressor back before the whole line went to shit, but it got ripped off about 4 years ago, and since then I've been getting by on a shitty dept. store bike. It's held up allright for a few three years or so, I've slightly upgraded derailuers and the drive train after I got it, but I'm having serious doubts about it's integrity. I know how much of a jump in quality I'm going to experience when I finally trade up again, but I've been unable to justify the expense so far.

I'm also stuck as to go back to a road bike or get another mtb or a hybrid. My use of the hard pack and offroad trails has declined considerably, but that might be be just because my current bike has become teh suck.

I have a couple of bikes. My road bike is a Trek 1000, I think. A little low end compared to the one in the original post, but it works ok for me. I have put many miles on it. My other bike is a mountain bike. It's also a Trek, but I don't remember the model.

Neither of them have many upgrades, although I did change out the pedals. I'm going to need new tires on my road bike this year, so I may just upgrade the wheels while I'm at it.

I have a 2000 Giant Iguana SE. I love it. I ride the city paths and the paved mountain paths in the summer and a trainer in winter and treat the thing pretty gently, and I think the thing will outlast me. Couldn't be happier with it. It has 1700 km on it and the power train and whatnot are just at the cusp between well used and worn out.

I need to either get a trainer or a stationary bike to prepare for a big race I'm riding in. I'd like to spend as little as possible. Can anyone make a recommendation? I'm watching eBay and Craigs list, but I don't really know what to look for.

I have a Univega alpina that I used for racing. I haven't raced in a couple of years but I am ready to get back into it. For road riding I have this great Trek frame that I have been using for years. I just keep upgrading the components as needed.

The city I live in has 40% of the city property as parks...though they do keep limiting where they will let us ride. The city is full of hills (and I mean hills...no matter what direction you ride you will do some serious leg burning climbing) and the country roads are great for road riding. The biggest problem here is the relatively short riding season.

Sorry Sammy...I don't have any recommendations for a stationary. Let us know what you find!

Legless, we picked up a hybrid for my wife (another Specialized, shocker), and she loves it. I have to admit, it's a damn comfortable ride, and it was cheaper than either of my bikes (around $315).

I added a few things to my road bike...computer, clipless pedals, repair kit. First time using the clipless pedals...gotta say they were indimitating at first, but damn, I don't know how I rode without them before.

I currently ride a Giant ATX 860 for getting around town. It's a good bike, but the frame is too small for me which means that it really hurts my back to bike anything further than about 60-70 KMs. It's handles well and I find that having a mountain bike in a city with streetcar tracks has saved my ass from going over the handle bars a few times. I haven't kept great care of my bike and I hope to change that. I'll probably buy a new chainwheel in May.

Unfortunately, there's just too much snow right now for me to justify biking. Particularly when I rarely go anywhere that's more than a twenty-minute walk.

I was very happy to purchase a sexy, new bike helmet. It was a moment of ultimate cyclo-dorkiness as I've been more excited about it than my new digital camera.

Some scheming friends and I plan on starting BikePirates this spring in order to pressure the city to implement its bike plan and promote Critical Mass.

I'm tempted to get a touring bike this summer and then bike around Ontario during August. I suppose the major problem with that is coming up with approximately $1200 for a bike and all the necessary gear. I guess we'll see how summer employment goes. I think the Cannondale T800 looks great, but is pricey. The Bianchi Volpe seems more affordable.

Even though it's a road bike I find myself drawn to the Lemond Etape...

The pedals made my bike feel 10 lbs lighter. Of course, I had never wrecked my bike until my first ride with the new pedals. They take a little getting used to, but then they're awesome.

I'm going to do a century ride in June in Lake Tahoe. Official training starts tomorrrow. Any of you done a long ride like this? Any words of wisdom?

On a related note, I want a new bike so bad I can hardly stand it. I looked at this bike yesterday and I've been trying to justify spending $2000 on a bike ever since. Unfortunately, I'd have to sell a leg, and then I couldn't ride it.

That's a nice bike. I was talking to a friend who told me that bike shows are great places to pick up bikes cheaply.

I'm afraid I might go overboard this summer when I buy a new bike. I'm at least going to buy a new chainwheel for my "getting around the city" bike, which recently got a flat about twenty feet away from my house.

I'm currently in the beginning stages of planning a bike trip that would take me through much of Ontario north of Toronto (Bruce Peninsula, Algonquin Park, Sudbury, etc.) in August. So I think a touring bike is a must as I can't afford and don't really want to do a credit-card tour.

I haven't done a ride like that yet, so no words of wisdom from me. I'm still training for this ride:

BUSCH GARDENS TO SEAWORLD

I seriously doubt I'll be ready, so it may have to wait. In the meantime, I'm riding as often as I can.

Excellent bike, by the way...I hope all the pieces fall into place and you're able to score that!

I was planning to try the local MS 150 last year (it's in Wilmington, and you do 75 miles one day and 75 more on day 2). But I never started training, so I gave up. This year, I'm definitely doing "American's Most Beautiful Bike Ride" in Tahoe. The ride will be awesome, and Luekemia and Lymphoma are really close to my heart so I won't mind the fundraising as much.

Oh, happy day! I took my bike in for whatever maintenance it needed, and I was told that everything is in superb condition. I figured I would have to drop a couple of hundred dollars for some new bits as the old bits have around 1500 km on them, but that turned out not to be the case. Even my brake pads are still going strong. $20 for a new tire and $5 to put it on, and I'm set.

I don't know a whole lot about bikes, and I would expect racing bikes have lighter, more fragile parts, but it would appear that Giant mountain bikes are built to last.

Bike?

Are you willing me to end up collapsed in some windswept curbside agonizing a massive coronary?

If the coronary is that massive, you might not even feel it!

If you're lucky, you might just wipe out and burst your spleen. You'll feel that.

I got an 1988 Aluminum Cannondale road bike from my dad this summer after he purchased a Trek Madone 5.9. It's pretty quick and equipped with all Dura-Ace parts, but I'm mulling over whether or not to sell it and invest the money from the sale and a $1000 into a road bike, or just spend a $1000 upgrading it. Buying a new bike makes more sense, but I feel I would really enjoy overhauling a bike with integrated shifters, new front fork, new tires and a new drivetrain.

I'm currently looking for a single-speed bike to ride in the winter. The Dahon Impulse 1 for $350 seems like a good deal and I've always wanted a folding bike. If not, then I might just buy an old road bike frame and make it single-speed.

Even though they're far out of my price range, Cervélo make some awesome bikes, including one with an 850 gram (!) frame. Unfortunately, that would set you back ten grand.

I mountain bike when I'm back home in Asheville.
