I'm only going to see 35 or so of these so, in your opinion... which ones aren't worth seeing? Are there any here that you wouldn't consider horror and don't belong on the list? And are there any super obscure horror films I'm missing out on, released between 1984 and today, and possibly direct to video?
You have some pretty good stuff on the list but you really don't need to see Shatter Dead. It's kind of interesting while completely sucking at the same time. It's definitely not one of the 100 best.
Eeewww, the Tomie series over Nightmare on Elm Street? And Razorback over Phantasm? You have a somewhat decent list but you've included movies that are far from great. To each his own though.
Ok I'm going through the list. Just because I'm bored out of my mind. *mumbling obscenities about being iced in*

ARACHNOPHOBIA
Didn't really care much for this one. It was more comedy than horror, so you decide.

ANGEL HEART
This one was totally confusing but I liked it.

CRITTERS
Haven't seen this one in years but I remember it being good, entertaining at least.

STEPFATHER
Terry O'Quinn rules.

CHILDREN OF THE CORN
Liked it.

STRANGELAND
WHOA! I liked it but it really wasn't worth all the hype it got.

THE DARK HALF
It was good.

DARK WATER
Haven't seen.

OPEN WATER
Haven't seen and have no desire to see.

RAZORBACK
Don't think I've ever seen it.

THE HITCHER
Definitely recommend this one.

LORD OF ILLUSIONS
Make sure you have the acid when you watch it.

HENRY, PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER
Wasn't impressed by it.

HOUSE
Liked this one.

THE GATE
Only think I can say for this one is pre-teen Stephen Dorff.

BRAINSCAN
It was different.

A TALE OF TWO SISTERS
Still waiting on this one.

NADJA
Never heard of it.
SCARECROW(S)
Is this the one that's so bad that it's hilarious? There's so many out there about scarecrows that are called Scarecrow it's hard to tell.

LIVING HELL
Umm, confusing.

OPERA
Haven't seen.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (Englund)
Haven't seen in forever and barely remember it.

JOHN CARPENTER'S VAMPIRES
If you've read the book, don't see the movie and if you've seen the movie, don't read the book, they're two totally different stories but I'm a sucker for James Woods.

WARLOCK
Loved it.

NIGHTBREED
Liked it.

SUB-SPECIES
Hated the series, of course I think I only saw the first one and hated it so much that I never bothered with the others.

STENDHAL SYNDROME
Haven't seen.

KAIRO
*tapping foot* Still waiting on this one.

HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL
The original is awesome, the remake....Geoffrey Rush should definitely be the person to play Vincent Price if there is ever a biopic.

MIMIC
Interesting.

PULSE
Haven't seen, at least I don't think so.

SHIVER
See above.

CRONOS
Don't see what the hype was about this one either.

PUMPKINHEAD
Great premise.

WORLD APARTMENT HORROR
Never heard of.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (REMAKE)
Ok, of course I didn't really care for the original either. *ducking the hurled fruit*

PROM NIGHT
Didn't like it.

BELOW
Very good, creepy.

DEMON KNIGHT
Hilarious.

SHOCKER
Don't remember it.

CHUD
Good.

LIFEFORCE
Hated it.

THE UGLY
Hated it.
WHISPERING CORRIDORS
Never heard of it.

GINGER SNAPS BACK
It was ok, not as good as Ginger Snaps though.

LEVIATHAN
Don't remember it that well.

PET SEMETARY
Loved it.

THE COMPANY OF WOLVES
WHOOOO AWESOME!!!!!

HABIT
Haven't seen.

FIRE IN THE SKY
Never saw, never wanted to see.

BRIDE OF CHUCKY
Not a horror IMO but I loved it anyway.

DELIRIA
?

SLEEPLESS
?

CAT'S EYE
Liked it.

TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE-THE MOVIE
Liked it.

DEEP IN THE WOODS
If its the one about the acting troupe, don't bother. Run from it quickly.

BIO-ZOMBIE
Haven't seen.

The GUINEA PIG movies
Haven't seen but the first one should be here Monday from Netflix.

The TOMIE movies
I have seen 2 of them and they weren't that great.

The RINGU sequels
The only other Ringu movie I've seen was Ring Virus and that one wasn't great.

PHONE
It's on my Netflix queue.

TWO EVIL EYES
I might give this one another shot. I saw it awhile back and wished I'd left it in the video store.

MONKEY SHINES
On my queue for another go, I remember not liking it the first time.

JEEPERS CREEPERS 2
Eh, just leave it with JC 1.

THE PUPPET MASTERS
Ok are we talking the killer puppets or the one with Donald Sutherland? I quit watching the killer puppets after the first 3 I think it was and the one with Donald Sutherland I don't think I've ever really watched.

EVERYTHING PUT TOGETHER
?

WISHMASTER
YES! The first one is the best.

SHATTER DEAD
Haven't seen.

RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD 2
Exact same story of the first one with a couple of tweaks.

RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD 3
Liked it.

DARKNESS
Is this the one that just came out? Stay away.

FRIGHT NIGHT
Must see.

BAD MOON
Is that the one with Michael Pare? if it is don't bother.

DEAD END
Stay far, far away.

THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE 2
Need to see this one again to really make a decision.

LEATHERFACE: THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE III
This one grew on me.

ENTRAILS OF A VIRGIN
On the queue.

ENTRAILS OF A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN
On the queue.

THE LAST HORROR MOVIE
Run very fast, very far.

DAGON
I just don't see what the big deal was with this one.

KING OF THE ANTS
Didn't like it.

BRUISER
Didn't like it.

HELLRAISER III: HELL ON EARTH
Actually my favorite of the Hellraiser series.

You have some odd taste there BN but you must see Habit. I still can't get over the fact that you don't like Night of the Living Dead. What's up with that?

If you read what I wrote, you'll notice this isn't the actual list, but rather a few movies I have to see before I make the list.

you forgot house of the dead

I don't know, I guess it was all the stuff I'd heard about it before I got a chance to see it. You know its bad when your fondest memory of a movie has to do with my uncle scaring the bejesus out of his sister by running around the house "they're coming to get you, Barbara." Nothing could ever live up to her reaction just from that one line. I guess that's why I was disappointed when I saw it years later.

Yes I've always been a strange bird.

PULSE
Haven't seen, at least I don't think so.
Aren´t these two the same film?
Here are the ones from the list that I recommend seeing first out of those so you can at least make up your mind about them.

ANGEL HEART
THE HITCHER
LORD OF ILLUSIONS
HENRY, PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER
HOUSE
SUB-SPECIES
CRONOS
PUMPKINHEAD
DEMON KNIGHT
CHUD
RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD 2
THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE 2

Hellraiser III sucks. Don't even waste your time with it imo (I just saw it recently cuz I got the Hellraiser Puzzlebox set).

If you haven't seen these, please add 'em to your list:

SEE THE SEA

SUICIDE CLUB

CEMETERY MAN

FREEZE ME

WOMAN IN BLACK

HAUNTED ( Aidan Quinn , and definitely underappreciated )

REFLECTING SKIN

DOG SOLDIERS

THESIS

WILD ZERO

STACY

RESURRECTION

THE ISLE ( borderline horror / drama )

BATTLE ROYALE ( borderline horror )

... of the films on your list, these are absolutely worth your while:

TALE OF TWO SISTERS ( my personal #1 horror film of the past 25 years )

DARK WATER ( great great film )

KAIRO / PULSE ( it is the same film, and fits in my Top 10 )

OPERA

STENDHAL SYNDROME ( underappreciated )

THE HITCHER

PHONE ( Ringu rip, but the 2 young female performers are a must-see )

BELOW

HABIT

... and these are worth watching, and might make the list due to the watered-down nature of a Top 100:

DAGON

LIVING HELL

CHILDREN OF THE CORN

HENRY

ANGEL HEART

SUB SPECIES

SLEEPLESS

RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD 3 ( #2 sucks and doesn't deserve it )

... the rest, well, it's your decision ... BRUISER was fucking horrible ( not just horrible, but fucking horrible ), and NADJA and COMPANY OF WOLVES were overly praised and, at times, laughable
post #15 of 24
... and I do believe that PROM NIGHT was made before 1984 ... '80 or '81 I think ...

... and I'd like to say that I've good things about WHISPERING COORIDOORS, but I haven't seen it ...

And add Dante Tomaselli's DESECRATION and HORROR to your list, at least for his attempt at individuality and originality . . .

I'm sorry, but The Hitcher is such a bad movie. IMO the suspense totally fails and the movie only has one or two good moments. One, when he sees the family in the station wagon pass and the killer looks at him out the back. Two, the very end when the chick gets ripped in half. It was one of the most tedious movies I have ever had to sit through.
For a 100 best you must see........

Shock Waves
Alucarda
The Experiment
Funny Games
Make sure you get the directors cut of Lord of illusions.

Also checkout

The Eye
My Little Eye
Session 9
Lucky
Watch Gozu, godamnit. Everyone should.
Many of the films you've listed I like, others I hated. Here's a few more that I consider high points in horror in the last couple decades:

Audition
Uzumaki
Close Your Eyes
The Devil's Backbone
Ju-On: The Grudge (1 and 2)
Silence of the Lambs
Seven

I'll try to do a more comprehensive film by film reply soon. I'm a little strapped for time right now.
