To which audiobook are you currently listening? - Page 5

10-4. Can't remember now if I knew that at the time, but it's okay. I strive to listen to unabridged audiobooks but can't always succeed for miscellaneous reasons.

WHEN YOU ARE ENGULFED IN FLAMES was generally funny, occasionally hilarious, but was consistently kind of sad. Sedaris' awful parents, sad childhood, pathetic young adulthood, and insanely neurotic adulthood tinges every haw-haw anecdote. Interesting stuff, though.

TROPIC OF CANCER is so great.

I finally finished Olivia Munn's audio book.

However, I was pretty disappointed. I expected it to be more of a life story "I came from here, went through this in Hollywood, and got to here now". But about half way through, it turns into "this big time director jerked off in front of me, this big time producer wanted me in bed, this athlete tried to sleep with me, this actor tried to get me to shower with him, G4 pissed me off this way, etc.", which really got old. There are some funny and sad stories regarding her life growing up, but the rest of it is just Enquirer-like stories that just don't have names for the people she encounters (except for Evander Holyfield offering to make her wife #9). She also bitches about the whole pie stunt on AOTS, having to put on the Slave Leia outfit for AOTS, and her Playboy shoot, probably the things that got her the most noteriety. She says many times how she loves her fans, but at some points, I felt like I was just listening to some girl complain about how shitty her life was while she sat and had her nails done and her feet massaged. She definitely worked hard to get to where she is now, but the book just seemed strangely disjointed to me--sort of like reading one person's auto-biography, and then suddenly it switched to another person about half-way through.

I would have like to have read more about how she got her first acting gig, how she got onto AOTS, the crazy things she's turned down, etc.

Tooday I fired up "The Associate" by John Grisham, read by Erik Singer. I'm on Chapter 4 or 5 (I can't remember) and it's starting up okay. I'll post again when I finish it, after which I'll fire up "Basic Economics, Fourth Edition" (yes, there's an audiobook to learn economics) written by Thomas Sowell (www.tsowell.com) and narrated by Tom Weiner (last name pronounced as if it were spellled "Winer", "wine"+r)

Listening to Gormenghast, read by Edmund Dehn. He tries a little too hard with the females, and his Prunesquallor (sp?) is a bit irritating, but otherwise he's very good.

"The Associate" down, listening to "Basic Economics, Fourth Edition" by Thomas Sowell, read by Tom Weiner (Blackstone Audio, Inc.) So far so interesting, and being that I got it from audible.com, there are no disc/track numbers to remember because iTunes keeps the audio in the correct position for me.

No kidding! I also have one, and thanks to it I downloaded The Associate by John Grisham read by Erik Singer and Basic Economics, Fourth Edition: A Common Sense Guide to the Economy by Thomas Sowell, read byTom Weiner, which is the one I'm listening to now. I recommend both to you. I can post the corresponding links here:

Now I'm looking forward fto the next credits (2/27) to download two more books. I'll get new credits on the 27th day of each month 'cause I signed up 1/27/2011

I am listening to Dan Simmons's Hyperion while I pack up my apartment for the move later this month. The audiobook an excellent one, I had no doubt the story would be good, but even a great book can be made awful if the reader is bad. Thankfully the readers are supurb, though It always takes me out of the story when one of them mispronounces a word.

Right now I'm on the Poet's tale and the guy reading as the poet has so far has pronounced the word facade like it had a hard C and made the word dishabille sound like diss appeal.

I'm currently thoroughly enjoying Patton Oswalt reading me Zombie Spaceship Wasteland.

Just started listening to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.  I have seen all the movies and loved them.
