Dante Tomaselli Wants To Direct the Evil Dead Remake

From Bloody-Disgusting.com:
Dante tells Movieonline:

Needless to say, I'd love to direct an Evil Dead project. I've been wanting to make an all-out zombie splatter film for a long time. Something hard-core and gory as hell. I like that Tapert wants to produce a film that is an "assault." I have a track record...3 features now -- and I can certainly work on low budgets.

Hell, I even have Ellen (Cheryl from the original) Sandweiss in my new film, Satan's Playground. She had so many interesting stories to tell about the making of the original. I'm planning on shooting THE OCEAN next, but I'd drop everything if this opportunity presented itself.

I'm a die-hard Evil Dead fan; I saw the cult classic in 1981 in theaters when I was 11.
-Dante Tomaselli

I've never seen any of his films, so I can't really vouch for it. Any opinions anyone?

If he were a real die-hard fan, he wouldn't want "Evil Dead" remade.

perfectly stated

Considering it will get made either way, it's probably a good opportunity for a fan to work on it don't you think? Better then having someone who has never seen the movie and has no real love for it making it.

I haven't seen any of this guys movies either but it sounds like his heart is in the right place. As already stated the remake is coming so you guys might as well get used to the idea. I'm up for it. Hell it might be good. No it will never touch the original which I love and have loved since I was a kid but the word remake doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be bad.

I completely agree.

Also true, but like we've said, it is going to happen no matter what. Maybe he'd rather take it head on himself than give someone else the chance to horribly fuck it up or water it down. I just hope they get some talent behind the camera (and in front of it) on this and that they go for full-out, R rated horror crazyness; "punishing the audience" like Tapert said..................in a good way hopefully.

Yeah - but I want to remake it, too. Can I throw my hat in that ring?

Dante Tomaselli would be PERFECT .... DESECRATION ( his first film on DVD ) was quite a unique and visual first effot ... creepy and completely uninhibitied ....... The guy is what Eli Roth pretends to be .....

Tomaselli would make a remake that would rival the original, I guarantee that ......... DESECRATION and HORROR had moments of absolute brilliance, but were somewhat brought down but the micro budget and some cast members that appeared to be his friends or relatives ... He has a definite style and flair for visuals .......

That would NOT be a glossy remake ala TCM or DOTD .........

It needs to be done by him .....

Dante Tomaselli sucks. Desecration was beyond horrible. There's no way he'll get this, either way.
