I know Russell and Clooney came to blows (or yells) on the set of Three Kings, but did Russell actually say that? I burst into spontaneous laughter when I read your sig.

I think the story was recently in Entertainment Weekly, it was funny. From what I remember, George said Russell was screaming at his second unit director, and he kicked a crew member? Then George said something to him, and Russell said "You should worry more about your fucked up acting!". Then they rumbled.

They had been fighting the whole shoot. Finally one day Russell wanted an extra to throw Ice Cube down and the extra kept doing it wrong. Russell went over to the extra and showed him how to do it.

Now, depending on who you're talking to (Spike Jonze and Mark Wahlberg said BOTH guys were at fault), Russell was abusive to the extra. Clooney's thing on the set is to step up for the little guys, and that's how the fight started.

Okay, but now you have to explain why Gene Hackman said that to Wes Anderson. I gotta know. Like Cirdan, I never hear about this stuff. Even when I do, I don't believe half of it.

I'm guessing Bill Murray said worse things than that to Anderson while shooting THE LIFE AQUATIC, from what I've read.

By his own admission, he was pretty grumpy during that shoot, mainly because he was away from home for six months. Evidently, being able to go back to his house at the end of the day means a lot to Murray, and when he couldn't do that he got cranky. I wouldn't put too much weight to anything he said on set, though. If he hadn't been such good friends with Anderson in the first place he wouldn't have gone at all.

By the way, for Devin and anyone else who's interested in more on Clooney vs. Russell,
Jeffrey Wells wrote about this very topic in a column discussing a book by Sharon
Waxman, called(I think)Rebels on the Backlot. It's apparently an Easy Riders, Raging
Bulls-type book focusing on Russell, Tarantino, Soderbergh, Fincher, Spike Jonze and
Paul Thomas Anderson.
