Star Wars Episode Two: Attack of the Clones

Obi-Wan Kenobi has just left the cloners of Kamino, he walks down the rampart to his ship, where his trusty R-4 mech droid awaits.

"R-4, Scramble code 5 to Coruscant, care of the Old Folk's Home!"

I swear to god, thats what he says. Go watch it. Then come back and tell me what he's REALLY saying. Because it totally ruins the mood for me.
That's what he really says.

Old folks home = Jedi Council. I'd imagine so people don't know he's talking to them, especially people associated with the bounty hunter he's tracking.

Not having AOTC handy, I googled this. Apparently that's what he really says. Wow.
I always liked Obi-Wan referring to thew Jedi temple as the old folks home. Adds some much needed humour to his character.
Yeah, according to the subtitles, that's what he's really saying. Weird.
Yes... because no one in the galaxy appreciates humor quite like an astromech droid.
Are you unfamiliar with the concept of doing something to amuse yourself? R4's perception of the joke is irellevant. Obi-Wan needed a code name for the Council, and picked something he thought was amusing. Obi-Wan's a funny guy. Not as funny as Han, but he has a very dry, British sense of humor...

"You were right about one thing, Master... the negotiations were short."
"Good job."
"You don't want to sell me death sticks... You want to go home and re-think your life."

... for example.

Yeah, scramble is the key word here. Old Folks Home.....never know who might be listening over the radio frequecies. Whats he supposed to say, "R4 send this message directly to the Jedi Council located on the 5th floor of the Coruscant Jedi Temple!"

Hehe, that would've been funnier...

Next you all will be saying that one of the Ewoks says about C-3P0, "That guy's wise." =P

At least they cut the part out of the movie where Yoda refers to the Younglings as "the Mighty Bear Clan".

I actually like the "Old Folks' Home" gag, though. One of my favorite touches of minutiae from AOTC.

You too? Thank God it's not just me...

"That guy's wise" - "Oh to be sure"
Hm, I didnt think that small line would actually get it's own thread eventually.

I found it amusing.

But isnt it said more than once throughout the movie? I may be wrong.

Now, something I've always wondered is how many languages people in the SW Universe know. If they can decode beeps and boops to know what droids are saying they must know a hell of a lot more than 2 languages.

Plus, does each species or planet have it's own types of languages?

That's my fanboy soul peeking out a little.

Oh man that made me laugh, I remember that bit - he DOES say "that guy's wise" like when 3PO is talking in Ewokian or whatever, hee, what a hoot. At least Lucas doesn't take himself too seriously all the time. I think I saw that the Ewok movies are out on DVD - anybody rented ot bought them? I can hardly remeber them now. Wasn't there an evil giant or something?

Yes, there was an evil giant, if I remember correctly. The last time I saw the Ewok films I was 10 or so.

And thanks to all who confirmed this for me. If I'd been smart, I would have checked the subtitles.

Can't quite believe that's what he says. It's entirely in character for the dryly witty Obi-Wan, but it comes from out of left field with no precedent or warning so it ends up playing very obscurely, to say the least, and so it just sounds BIZARRE to me.

I don't think you did, but the language is called Hutteese and Leia as Boussh (who knew it was pronounced Boosh?) speaks Ubese.

You might be able to stretch things and say that Bossk spoke Trandoshan but I think he was just making noises, not saying anything on the bridge of The Executor.

And while we're at it:

The Phantom Menace:
Binary/hexaudio
Gungan
Hutteese
Wookiee
Aqualish
Tusken
And a few others I'm blanking on (e.g. the Malastare delegation)

Attack of the Clones:
Gungan
Hutteese
Binary/Hexaudio
Geonosian
Tusken
And wasn't one of the Seperatists subtitled? The female I think.

There was the senator at the beginning (Moe Aak or something), a Ree-Yees who I think are called Grans, he was subbed.

I dont think Wat Tambor used binary or hexaudio.

It sounded like an old AM radio.

Is it my turn to throw the 12 sided die?
