$6 Haircuts

Thread Starter
This may be a little bloggy but I thought I'd throw this out there as possibly opening up a little to the Chewers out there.

I got a $6 haircut yesterday from Great Clips. I have no regrets. I've gone to Great Clips for years now but I now know to choose my location wisely. It all depends on the person cutting the hair really. Now I go to this Great Clips 5 miles out of my way because most of the ladies there cut good hair. I could go down the street and get my haircut but those people are butchers that only use Razors. So I'll go the extra miles for a good head.

Anyway.. I'm proud of my $6 haircut but my wife rolls her eyes because I won't shell out the extra cash to go to a "respectable" salon. Whatever. I'm a dude.. and a married dude at that. I need not preen and primp like singles do.

so what do ya think? Do you prefer the barbershop.. the economy cut.. or the beauty salon?

One of my favorite haircut places is a salon in downtown LA - excellent men's haircuts at $10 a piece. Usually leave a $5 tip. Quick, efficient, friendly. No fuss.

I have to say, the last time I had mine cut, I went to a ladies salon and paid out more than normal. But that's only because I'm real careful about my hair, and I don't trust men with my hair, especially in this city.

I really don't like to pay more than $12 for a haircut. Now that I'm getting a bit older and my hair is thinning out quite rapidly, my hair manages better when it's short. However, I'm lazy about cutting it. I had a hometown stylist who had been cutting my hair since gradeschool, and I used to drive 100+ miles to get a haircut from her. When I finally broke the umbilical with that lady, I started going to discount hair places. I'm satisfied with Fantastic Sams now. Wednesday is men's haircut day, only $9.

I went to a barber growing up (who is my childhood best friend's grandfather) and then hopped around to various other salons and eventually made it back to him in high school. But, when he started charging me $15 a visit and would never cut my hair to my wishes, I went back to getting my hair cut by the guy that cuts my sister's hair. He only charged me $10 and always cut my hair how I wanted it. I recently left him because I moved from GA to SC and about a week ago, I got my haircut at the local Great Clips for $6. The lady there cut it slightly shorter than I wanted, but she did a great job otherwise.

There is an adult barbershop near me that's great. For 16 bucks, you get your hair shampooed and cut by a cute chick wearing Daisy Dukes. They also serve beer.

Doesn't beer make every experience more enjoyable? Beer is my friend.

I cut my own hair. Remington hair trimming kit thing from amazon cost me about 20 bucks, been using it for 4 years.

Nice and short and neat...if thats all you need, this is the way to go!

But if you must go to a barbershop like Great Clips, at the very least entertain yourself by creating an unbelievable backstory and profession to tell to the stylist.

So what do you do for a living? Oh I am a hostage negotiator...

Heh. I get a simple buzz cut with clippers. It ain't rocket science. Therefore I ain't paying over 15 dollars for a cut.
i'm female and i'd get a $6 haircut, i mean, WTF, its only hair, it'll grow back. and especially for a guy, spending more than $15 on a cut should be illegal.
Females don't have the option of a $6 haircut. Economy salon's like Super Cuts have trims starting at $15-$20 (depending on hair length is goes up). That doesn't even include a wash & dry. Even though its recommended that I trim my hair every 6 weeks, I basically get one once every 9 months or so because I literally can't afford to do it more frequently. I would love for a consumer group to take on this issue (and dry-cleaning) as being sexist. Women are charged double the price men are charged for getting the exact same services. It's really messed up.

those are by far the best...quick and no fuss. i pay $15 for mine now, but its def worth the money to be in and out of there so quick.

I go to supercuts, and I get great haircuts. Why pay more, I guess.

That's an appalling bias. Lack of skill in the tonsorial arts knows no gender, and at worst, you'll become an excellent meat pie...

I have super thick hair, and I guess its easy to fuck up, because the last time I got a haircut at a Supercuts like place the chick made me look like a butch lesbian from the 80's.
I used to always go to a salon that was alright, but then I tried this 70 year old barber. He only charges 8 bucks, and he has perfect instincts. I never have any problems when I walk out of there, wich is surprising. At the salon, it always took at least a week after a cut to stop looking goofy. I have strangely behaving hair, and only the old barber could seem to tame it.

EXACTLY. Every time I walked out of that salon, I was a bull dyke lesbian.

I spend way too much on it, but I'll never stop. My hairdresser and I are good friends and the massage she gives the scalp is worth whatever she charges. It's a monthly ritual and I've had too many bas haircuts in the past. Plus, this lasts a good hour. Great decompression time.

Similar to what Carl mentioned but without the beer, there's a barbershop several miles from where I live that employs hot asian women, and is rumoured to give "happy endings" after a haircut.

I go to the closest Sports Clips (started by Jay Novacek!). The one I go to is owned by former NFL QB Eric Zeier (sp?). You can always find a coupon on the internet, so a cut, shampoo, and massage, plus tip usually comes out to be about $13-$14. Before I moved to where I am now, I used to go to this "salon" that was run by all Asian women, and that's the first time I'd ever been someplace where you got a brief shoulder and neck massage to accompany your haircut. Ahh, good times.

I go to a barber shop called By-Pass Barber Shop. The guy who cuts my hair, Lee Williams, is great. Costs $11. If he is too packed, I'll go down the street to another shop owned by my best friend's uncle. He charges $10. Either way, I get extremely short crew cuts, so I only get a haircut maybe 4-5 times a year.

It all depends on the haircut. There is a world of difference between the effort required to trim, cut, maintain and style a layered, permed, perhaps color-treated hairstyle (whether the hair be long or short) and the effort required for some old ex-marine to plop me down in a chair and give me a high'n'tight.

I go to a spa and get my hair done there. $60 CDN for the haircut, and usually around $50 for product. My friends say I'm a retard for spending that much, but my hair literally needs to be tamed every month. Not cut.

Those bastards at Supercuts have screwed up my hair so many times I just try not to think about it. To imagine all of the women who would have gone out with me if it wasn't for that goddamn mop on my head...

Plus it's kind of like anything else out there - "when you've had the best, you can't settle for less", you know.

I have a Barber who does Shave/Cut for 25$ that I go too if I need to look spiffy.

This girl Aliesha at Great Clips does my normal haircut and has been for 2 years..Before that I used to go to A Salon at a Gyn that was 30 a pop, to shave my sides and trim the top shouldnt cost 30 fucking dollars.

That's why I said a "trim", which requires no styling. You just trim the ends off. That should take less than 15 minutes, but women get charged double what men do for the same service.

I stand by my position that trimming to maintain a specific hairstyle is more work than "cut the top to 3/8's and cut everything else off". Course I been shaving my head for three years now so what the hell do I know?

#3 on the top, #1 on the sides. Blend up high.

My request: "Trim 1/4 inch of hair off the back to get rid of split ends. Cut straight across the bottom."
Cost: $30

I saw some flyers around the Triangle about $5.99 cuts for men and women. I should have taken advantage of it. I'm a female, so I always have to pay more for a simple cut.

No shit, this is my same haircut too.

I go to supercuts. I have my hair cut down to a length that is just long enough to not be considered a buzz cut, a little less than half an inch. Any shorter and it makes me look like I'm the type of person that has twenty guns at home and is praying for the advent of world war three. It's weird how 1/8th difference in the length of my hair can so dramaticly change my face.

After that I let my hair grow out untill it threatens to become a small Afro (around two months) and back to supercuts I go. I used to go to a local Barber but two years ago he had to retire due to arthritis.

Its strange but whenever I sit in that chair with a woman doing the cutting I don't want to talk I just want to close my eyes and drift off into paradise. There is something about getting my hair cut by any woman that turns me on. I can see how to some people getting their hair cut is a fetish.

Okay, you win. Because quite frankly, that's nuts.

I just got back from a $6 cut. There's just nothing like it. I didn't even have to wait too long. Usually the $6 cut brings out people in droves, but I got lucky today.

Not that I'm normally an advocate of amateur haircuts, but with a request that simple, couldn't a friend with good scissors and a steady hand be a lot cheaper?
