Fox's "House"

Anyone else watch this?

I like it a lot, but it's starting to become the same thing every episode with no attempt to show character development or continuing storylines. Patient gets obvious diagnosis, House has off the wall diagnosis, House convinces staff to go with off the wall treatment that proves both the obvious and House diagnosis wrong, but gives House a lead on the real disease. Insert witty banter, conflicts with upper staff, and Miracle cure.

With the format of the show I know it would be difficult to do any kind of long story arc, but they will need to change something or the great character of House will be wasted.

I watch it and like it, but it's almost all Hugh Laurie that keep sme coming back. He delivers lines very, very well.

Although, I think a fair job has been done building up 1) the conflict between House and Omar Epps and 2) House's addiction to painkillers. I hope they pay off at some point, though.

Also, the "poisoned jeans" episode sucked.
Fantastic, iconic character....but yes, the formula gets old. At least last week's show deviated slightly.

I've been recording it in case it never makes it to DVD, and the poisoned jeans ep was the only one I've recorded over.

It really has turned into what I was afraid of, Laurie is just so much head and shoulders above the rest of the cast they they can't really compeat with him and it shows.

They do however seem to known this and are working on it a little bit. Hopeful Fox will give it the time it needs and get rid of the Omar Epps character, he annoys me.

In a depressing political sense, though, the formula may be helping the show. As per usual, Fox has been airing the episodes out of production order, but because House isn't dependent on arc storytelling or any settling-in period (many people have said they felt a lot differently about Firefly once they saw it in order), viewers seem to have been able to get a handle on the show more easily.
Just saw this week's episode...wow. Only vaguely formulaic, really well put together, and the pieces of the puzzle were laid throughout the script. Nice.

Next week's doesn't appear to be formulaic, either.

This show is awesome. I can't help but find Hugh Laurie to be a bit sexy..there's just something about him. I want him in my bed. Maybe.
Have you seen his other work? Peter's Friends, Black Adder, Jeeves and Wooster, A Bit of Fry & Laurie.....

I keep catching the end of this show. So Its always the last 30 minutes of it.

The show is pretty good. I liked the cat autopsy and termite disease. But what I don't understand is how these medical assistants can act like CSI's and just go whereever they want to prove their diagnosis.
This is the only time I am ever going to say that....but I am glad American Idol is on the air only because House got a huge boast in the ratings.

Yeah, I've been wondering about that myself
post #12 of 43
his assistance are all doctors in there own right on fellowship. Its has only been shown a few times but it is a teaching hospital and as they let him do anything he wants, why not let them too.
Wilson was talking to House last night about seeing an ex-girlfriend of his...it sounded like a date.

Isn't Wilson married? I did miss an ep (last week's)...
Heard tell this has been renewed for a 2nd season. Good news if true.

Yeah, I guess the American Idol lead in worked wonders..House is one of the first shows on fox to be renewed for another season. Hopefully this will allow the writers to start some more overarching storylines instead of the weekly formula.
I have officially become addicted to this show. ITs weird that I never catch the first 10 minutes of an episode but I always watch the rest of it being totally enthralled.

I watched the movie Closer last night and then last night's episode of House. Talk about massive affairs.
well it appears to be I'm the only one watching this show.. or at least the only one willing to comment on House on a continual basis.

Seriously though each episode gets better and better and the patient's diagnoses get more shocking and hilarious.

Last night's Vegan parenting 101 was absolutely hilarious. Add to that the drama of House's inevitable firing this show has moved to #1 on my must see TV. Yes over LOST and CSI.

When I started watching this last fall, I thought to myself: it's going to be cancelled. Any time a show comes on that I'm even remotely interested in watching anymore, it's cancelled.

When I first started watching Lost, I thought the same thing.

So very happy that they've turned into such massive hits.

Before Lost and House, I watched exactly no tv. Now, I have two shows. It's put a crimp in my scheduling.

ESPECIALLY if it's on FOX, for cryin' out loud! Thank goodness for the American Idol lead-in.
I to am shocked that it didn't get canned at the end of like 4 episodes as it is Fox, but here it is.
Oh, I'm an addict, too. They've done a good job of keeping the formula from being obvious, or changing it.

They need to do something with Chase, however. He's going from a character with promise to just plain annoying. Hopefully, with the possibility of Chi McBride out of the picture, he'll develop more.
This is such a great show. Definitely appointment television.

So is Cameron coming back... the actress who plays her was still listed in the credits last episode.
I was wondering the same - I missed her more than I thought I would...

Good show....
Sela Ward is perfect to play his ex.

Cameron will still be on the show. Beyond that, I'm not saying, but if you want spoilers, there are some in the ep synopsis on tvguide.com.
another good episode last night. I loved House's Interviews with aspiring Doctors. Classic.
John Cho on House. A pretty good role.. I mean who wouldn't want to play a patient with a metal plate in his head who suffers strokes from asfixiation due to S&M fetishes?? CRazy!!

anyway.. setting House up as mediator between to nympho elderly adults.. funny stuff.
And Keone Young as the guy's dad! When he showed up on screen I yelled "Cock-SUCKA" and my wife laughed beer out her nose.
more people should be watching this

Here is a very recent "House" article from Yahoo:

Note minor spoilers for upcoming episodes...

House Yahoo article
They should fire everybody and have just Laurie saying anything to the camera.
I liked this week's episode way better than I have the past few with the Vogler arc. The characters seemed more like themselves--Chase was less of an ass, Cameron was less of a whiny child, the dinner date was handled remarkably well, if painful to watch.

Other good:
-- "Now I get it. House is adorable. I just want to hold him and never let go."
-- House's reaction to seminary-attending prettyboy Chase having a secret kinky past: "I wouldn't have tortured you if I knew you liked it."
-- Wilson camped out on House's couch while he dispenses dating advice.

Not so good:
-- Cuddy supporting the idea of House dating his subordinate. How is that professionally acceptable to the head of the hospital?
Last night's episode was definately an innovative way of telling the back story of House's leg.

really cool stuff.

Lots of news from Fox's schedule announcement:

Good news: House will return in August in its current time slot.

Bad news: The cushy American Idol lead-in will be replaced by a drama about crime-fightin' forensic anthropologists starring-wait for it-David Boreanaz.

Bad news: In January, House will then be removed from Tuesdays entirely,

Good news: ...so it can be the lead-in for 24 on Mondays.
Woo! Of course, if they are confident enough in House to think it can help the ratings of Boreanaz's new show, that IS a good thing.

The irony of last week's ep is I opted not to record it, since they'll wind up releasing it on DVD...
and it's the best ep, ever.
well I knew this episode couldnt live up to last week's AWESOME episode.. but it was still good for its interaction between HOUSE and his Ex-wife.

now I was a bit lost at the end of the episode... Did they say that his Ex-wife would be staying at the hospital?
I've only caught bits and pieces of House here and there and never stuck through an entire episode to form a decent opinion on it. Mainly because I like to watch Law And Order: SVU afterwards and I would feel guilty knowing I spent two straight hours watching TV when there's about 1,500 different things I should be doing. But since it was the season finale, I decided to check it out in its entirety and liked what I saw. Good moments:

- Babe Assistant impersonating House. "Did you come up with a diagnosis, or were you too busy trying to steal cars?"

- House antagonizing and interrogating the husband while he's getting a CAT scan was great. Plus it gave me the beautiful mental image of Sela Ward wearing a wedding dress with no underwear on underneath.

- When House was impeded by his assistants from getting a urine sample that the husband refused: "How do you want to do this? How about you take the big dark one and I'll take the little girl? The Aussie will probably run away like a wallaby in the Outback."

- If you thought you heard a loud slam around 9:45 Eastern Time on Tuesday night, that was the collective audience of men slamming their legs together in anguish at the thought of having a needle jammed into their bladder.

I'll definitely catch up on this show during the summer reruns...pardon, the SUMMER SEASON.

And I heard what neaux did about the wife getting a job at the hospital so the husband can be monitored. So is Sela becoming a permanent cast member or was this just a season finale tease?
This show was a big surprise. Great writing and phenomenal acting. I liked it enough this season, that I expected it to be cancelled by now. The last two episodes (especially the otigin story) were up there with the best I've seen on TV or at the movies all year. Who'da thunk the wormy dad from Stuart Little was such a likable prick?

And yes, Sela Ward will be part of the cast in season 2. Prepare to see House squirm.
They were advertising, 2 eps ago, that "Sela Ward joins the cast," so I think she's permanent.

Way back in an earlier ep, Sean Leonard's character has a scene where he mentions talking to an ex of House's, and asking him if that was ok...that he didn't want to bring it up. He did say it was Stacy, didn't he? That's some good continuity, that they mention her like 6 months ago, then she doesn't show up until now.
Yeah, she was the ex referred to. The references go further back, as it's mentioned very early in the season that she left him soon after his injury. They clearly had that history in mind from the first ep, and letting it unfold as untold backstory until the origin story at the end of the season was a well-executed move.

Here's hoping season 2 is as good!

This show really pulled itself out of hte fire for me with the Vogler arc. It was good, Laurie was great, but every episode was the same until they really got some headway into multiple episode arcs. Love this show, hope the time slot is not so cramped next year.

I actually think they had to start the show how they did. Otherwise House comes off as an unlikeable prick with no audience references as to why he's always right.
i just watched the entire season in the past 3 days and i must say i fucking loved every minute of it. house is easily one of the more interesting characters on tv and laurie is in total control. he's so damn funny. i was really surprised by just how funny he was. the rest of the cast was pretty good as well. i was always into omar epps work so its good to see him on a weekly basis. i really liked the scenes between house and wilson. wilson is probably my second favorite character out of them all. it was also nice seeing sela ward on the last few episodes. she bring's more credibility to the show and it's great she's signed on for next season.
