Time to move!

Thread Starter
I was planning on changing homes later in the summer, maybe close to here and maybe far away, but the last straw happened that reminded me that my neighborhood is going to shit and it's time to fuck off.

TWO neighbors are working on their cars in the street. On a Monday. Yeah, I'm over this town.

So, not in their driveways? I'm confused as to why this is such a bad sign.

I was expecting that one of your neighbors offered to sell her baby to you so she could buy meth, or something.

Kinda related:

There's a Ryder truck in the apartment complex that had a moving tip written on the side. "It's ok to cuss at heavy furniture."

Los Angeles is nice, but crowded and expensive.

Elitist! Such was the cry when I ran into the same issue. The broke down cars leaking oil all over the driveway, piles of dog crap making a minefield out of common areas and garbage cans overflowing with trash stuck on front porches put me over the edge. That may ok with some people, but when I invest in a home, I'd like it to appreciate- depreciation is just not my bag. It was nice when I moved in, but I was glad when I left.

White flight!

No, his neighbors might be Irish.

Oh. Well, who can blame him then?
What type of cars were they and were they on blocks?

Blocks or not, if they were El Dorados, it's time to bolt, post-haste.

Goddamn those Klopeks.

Move to a blue state.

I know you said you were interested when you were up here Nick, so in case you don't recall, here's a really good site to search for real estate in Vancouver:

MLS.CA Vancouver property search

I would recommend North Vancouver myself. It's a bit more spendy but most of the neighborhoods are really nice. I grew up there.

Not going to slag of Texas much more because I live here and I have a good job and a nice house/car and stuff.

However, they can be some Bible thumping uptight mother fuckers these Texans. It's my personal goal to push out the church and open more comic stores.

You'll burn in Hell for your words.

Move to San Diego. Its very similar (and close) to LA, but without the, uh, shitstorm of fuckfaceness.
I just did a search for Intercourse, Pennsylvania.

I got some interesting recommendations.

San Fransisco is the place to be. Or Monterey.

I'll tell you what, though, you're not going to find real estate anywhere like it is in Atlanta. When my wife would visit, she would just sit there and watch the real estate channel in amazement at the prices of housing around there.

If you can swing it, San Diego is definitely the way to go. Frankly, I give it 10-15 years before it's as developed as LA and the chance to get in on that real estate market is personally very tempting (as is the quality of life down there). If I could telecommute, I'd do it.

You've already been to Austin, Nick, so you know you could always move here and avoid almost all of these shortcomings. However, you get to add in hellish housing prices unless you live 20-30 miles from downtown.

County Line BBQ. Austin Studios. SxSW. The glorious Paramount Theater. Yeah. Friggin' bat colony under a bridge.

Nick, I feel your pain. I will trade you a couple of people working on cars in the yard for high school kid’s beater 1st cars parked in the street all the time. Most all communities in the Atlanta metro area require home-owners associations. Ours doesn’t seem to do much. Of course, at the last meeting they mentioned that only 1/3 of the owners pay their association dues. People suck.

There are a lot of nice places to live in this country. Seattle is nice and it doesn’t rain as much as people say. Summers there are amazing. Just think Vancouver, but 5-10 degrees warmer. Minneapolis and St. Paul are ok, but is does get cold in the winters. You do get great schools, reasonable home prices and all kinds of out door activities there. If you want to stay in Atlanta then you are stuck with what you have. I figure that if I buy another home in the Atlanta area I will go out far enough to get a few acres of land and be done with neighbors in my face and home owners associations. Suburban life is not what it is cracked up to be.

As stated above, you will be hard pressed to beat Atlanta home prices.

Best wishes,
Mike

LA is the best option, man. Not out of a search for a Nice Neighborhood, simply because it will bring you closer to the industry that you love, report on, and hope to break into. Plus you might run into Danny DeVito or something.

Oh, they are already out of new areas to develop. They're going to have to stick to expand their existing ones from now on, and that means more urbanization. I actually live in the last 'new' development, so hopefully that'll spare me from living next to a skyscraper for the next few years.

Nick, if you are getting the hell out of Dodge we need to throw a sweet ass going away party. Complete with naked women boobs, alcohol, and Halo action.

Or naked women Halo mod action.

You can always move farther south. If you come to Miami, be sure to bring Sofia (my daughter needs a playmate, and she's a few months younger than yours), your Xbox (LAN parties), and all those advance screening connections with you.

Just curious about which way you mean. Was she amazed at how high or how low real estate was. Because I would think the cost of living would be quite a bit lower in Atlanta, GA than in San Francisco, CA.

And Nick, am I completely crazy (yes) or did you move into your current house not too long ago (ie two years or less).
I'm not surprised Nick's upset with his neighbors, what with stealing his roommate's skeleton and all.

Seriously though, good luck whatever you decide to do.

You killed them. Didn't you?

No, but he is wearing an "I Saw Walking Tall, And I'm Not Afraid To Use It" T-shirt in full view of the neighbors.
