When you do something like that, you're being disrespectful and rude which is far from being witty.

On to Star Wars…

A lot of the anti-apologist here know me, and we're pals. It's because I can accept their opinion that they don't like these new Star Wars films or changes to 4-6. However, it does not mean that I agree with their opinion. I do not really accept the "apologist" tag either. I’m not trying to justify any thing. I really do think that they are good films for a bazillion reasons that I have already discussed. There differently are style choices that you can either live with our without. And once again I have to say that I feel that has to do with your personal taste for eccentricities.

I think everyone should really stop being rude to each other as well. Things are not as black or white as people on both sides make them seem. Do you guys want to discuss your reasons for liking or disliking a Star Wars film and your faith in Episode III or do you want to have a rally?

Ha ha! Cuntgoblin. Must remember that one. Or is it copyrighted now?

Oh and er, looking forward to Episode 3, hated 1 & 2, loved the originals.

Now you may destroy me Rottenjesus. But be warned I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine. Oh wait, no I won't. Fuck.

Right, on PooPoodle. That's exactly it. I think Lucas pooched the first two. This isn't revisionist fandom, as I was sitting in TPM, it didn't feel the same. You can bet I'll be in line for the opening of ROTS, but I've got no expectation that it will be any better than the previous two.

Which then begs the question, why on earth are you putting effort/money into seeing a movie you have such low expectations of? Because it's Star Wars?
I'll never understand why it's the "apologists" who are said to be blinded by their love of Star Wars when patently the people who just can't let go are the people who are dissatisfied with the prequels.

Poopoodle, I don't agree with your opinion of the prequels, but I certainly applaud your stance and hope you have the integrity to see your convictions through.

Indeed. It's a multiple factor answer. I'd say one, at this point(ie- Ep. III), as has been alluded to earlier, it's an event. The buzz and excitement of a group of folks on the opening night of a film. That's always a pleasure to be involved with. Two, in my rural corner of America, movie tickets are a reasonable $6.50, so I don't really consider any money spent money wasted. Three- in all, my attendance isn't necessarily a reflection of the film being Star Wars (I would count that as the first two), but more of the fact that I'm usally in on anything with the sci-fi theme with space ships, explosions, aliens and the like.

As for "apologists", when I use the term, I use it in the sense of having an excuse for every misstep, cheap joke or gap in logic inherent in the Star Wars universe. I.e- those that profess George and Star Wars can do no wrong and go to extraordinary means to defend everything and anything. I still consider myself a fan, albeit a critical one. I think the two can coexist.

I too was severely disappointed by the last 2 movies, although I enjoyed participating in the 'hype' leading up to them. You are right, these are event movies, and they are Star Wars, so they are different (for some of us anyway). And why not get excited about Episode 3? Its the last one, afterall. Besides, I have free tickets.

I haven't watched Eps 1 or 2 for ages, but I guess I'll watch them again before May. And when I do go into the theatre on the 19th, it will not be with pessimism, or optimism, but with an open mind. If I am entertained, awesome! If I am not, well, there's always the originals. Provided Lucas stops changing them! Grrrrrrr.
