SAW on DVD

Is "Saw" as good as it looks?
Is it something I need to own, or is it something I could rent and feel just as satisfied.
When it hit theatres I was so excited but I missed it and it was gone before I knew it.
I must have been in a coma or sleeping or something...
I found it sick and very twisted. I actually liked it better than Se7en. (Probably gonna get hate for that.) I say give it a rental and if you like then buy.

Nick's review of Saw is about the most accurate thing I've ever seen.

Se7en is my absolute 100% favorite movie of all-time EVER.
That's why this movie got me all wet, it looked similiarly sic and twisted.
I think I'll just buy it.
Don't buy it. Rent it, laugh your ass off, and return it.

I thought it was great

-The packaging

-DVDs are circular, meaning you can trace the DVD to add a happy sun to your drawings

-DVDs are shiny

-You don't technically HAVE to watch the movie

-With a little hobby paint and a little imagination, you can make your own little Captain America shield from the DVD. Go get 'em, Cap!

I didn't see it yet myself, but some buddies thought it was reasonably good. I honestly can't picture the hate Werewolf Girl...

Saw was the worst movie I've seen in theaters in several years. Truly awful in every way a movie can be (except the marketing).

Sooooo, don't get out much?
I get out a lot, see a lot of movies. Saw was definitely the worst one I saw in theaters last year. It even edged out Secret Window. If I wanted to watch a shitty music video someone directed as their final film project, I'd go back to college. God, poor Glover and Elwes. I used to like them.

I do, actually. See a movie in the theaters about every other week. Saw was the worst since, hmmm...My Favorite Martian, I think. Possibly worse than that.

The only thing scary in SAW was the acting.

my friend's saw SAW and they said it sucked, then again they saw the Grudge and liked it. Me I hated the grudge but I have not seen SAW. I'm going to rent it for a couple bucks and see if it's a movie I want to own. I would rather waste 3 dollars then almost 20 in buying it if it does suck.
Well the way I explained it to my roomate today who asked if he should get it, this movie isn't horrible, just bad......in pretty much every way.
Well, it's one merit is that with the right kind of mind it's very very funny. The terrible melodramatic acting, the ridiculous plot, and the terrible puzzles and clues it's filled with made my friend and I laugh our asses off the whole way through when we saw it. However, we were the only people in the theatre who were laughing so maybe it's just us...
I haven't seen it yet either but this one is a definite rental.
Looks like there are a couple of releases in other regions that will have more footage than the US release.

US R1 = 99 minutes
UK R2 = 102 minutes
Japanese R2 = 103 minutes

The times I posted above may or may not be accurate at this point. But there is alot of talk online right now about the R1 release actually being R rated and not the uncut version that is being released elsewhere.

UK R2 Release

Japanese DTS R2 NTSC

I liked both Saw and The Grudge.

No hate from me. While I do not like Saw as much as Se7en, Se7en IS an overrated movie. An excellent one, but it's reputation has more to do with the "delivery" of the ending more than anything else (if you will pardon the joke.) I enjoyed Saw quite a bit. Greatest movie ever? Nope. Best horror film in years? No. Original? Of course not, and I'm sure its creators would agree with me. Better than most of the lame horror/thriller pictures we are subjected to (Hide & Seek, Taking Lives, Alone in the Dark, Twisted, Godsend, etc.)? Hell yes, a nice little breath of air. It might not be fresh, but it still tasted a helluva lot better than the stale crap we breath on a regular basis.

I came, I Saw, I vomited....

Just finished watching it and yah, I do agree with Werewolf Girl.....it was pretty bad....the idea is decent, but the execution is horrible....and the ending...WTF?!?!?
Very rarely do I actually feel like walking out of the theater.
I was not a huge fan of Saw. I thought that it had some interesting ideas, but that was about it. A lot of the acting really hurt the film, which surprised me concidering that I like those actors. The ending was totally ridiculous to the point that I had trouble suspending my disbelief, but that partially comes from my effects background. I will give it a second shot, but usually that doesn't yield much different results.
Well I enjoyed the shit out this flick. I do agree some of the actors scenes in the Bathroom were very bad and had me cringing. Aside from that I liked this, I was satisfied with it being the Orderlie and could have lived with that, however the reveal at the end fucking floored me. I had no Idea that was gonna happen, I alos like the dreary tone it ended on, you know just eaving the kid in there.

Most of the shocking stuff wasnt that bad at all, I think some folks need to get out more I cant sit thru Visitor Q but I had no problem with this.

Man and Riggs partner REALLY got jacked!

I enjoyed this alot and wish I would have seen it in the theater. Oh well!

Did that guy just spoil the film?

Even if the movie sucks, that is a dick move.

Thanks, Chow. Tool.

Saw this last night and found it mildly entertaining, not something I would seek out again, but not altogether horrible. Some aweful acting across the board, and a stupid/cheesy script, made even worse by some really poor directing choices (wtf was he thinking with those absurdly erratic jump-cut sequences?), and an over the top story. Still, I managed to find it watchable, there was some decent gore, and an intriguing premise.
Saw was a poorly made, confusing movie. They sneak into the killer's hideout only to find him working privately, in near dark, wearing a ridiculous disguise which includes cape and mask.

It's not worth money IMO.
I watched it last night and enjoyed it despite its flaws. In fact, if it weren't for the very end of the movie I might not have liked it, but I dug that last bit because if I had just thought about it a bit more I would have figured it out. Despite the awful acting, and pointless plot devices, I still liked it. Saw is no way near as good as Se7en, if it's really any good at all.
Cmon now...the ending was complete shit....
Seeing Danny Glover screw up catching the killer twice was fairly funny.

Finally saw this last night and promptly regretted it...

Far and above the worst performances of Elwes and Glover's careers...just hilariously, staggeringly awful. I can't decide which I found more unintentionally hilarious: Elwes's "YOUBAHSTAHD!"s or Glover's oh-so-subtle chuckle during the "Danny Glover is going insane because he is CONSUMED WITH THIS CASE" montage. There were some decent ideas on display and I found the ending, despite its implausibility, to be relatively inspired, but the masturbatory direction, pathetic acting and shitstain writing killed it for me overall. That "car chase" towards the end was something else, too. I have a feeling this will become a great drunken MST3K type of film for me and my friends in the very near future.
Talk about a completely cool premise (the rats in the trap) squandered by some terrible dialouge, performances, and plot twists which become more and more inexplicable as the movie dragged on.

The most bizarre was the death of Danny Glover's partner. How absurb was the entire setup for that murder. It required two cops to spot something in a video, not bother to bring back-up, while tracking a known serial killer, while the Jigsaw man, kidnaps one guys, sets up 2 traps and saunters around in a cloak. What the hell??

The final act is even more inane in the contrivances for it to actually work. Actually, it doesn't...

The script needs a serious re-write or three. Personally, I'd have dropped the Seven sequences and Danny's character and focus in on 2 guys chained up while tormented by a never seen malevolent Mind Fucker. That might have worked. Could have been real chilling...

PS
The puppet did rule!
This movie was fucking stupid as hell BEFORE the plot began to fall apart under close scrutiny. And then it ends with a shocker that's not entirely in any universe possible, not in a "that's a stretch" way, but in a "that's not possible" manner. It breaks it's own rules, it's terribly edited, it features sub-PLAN 9 acting, and shit, it was also really pussy. I can see that the filmmakers were greatly inspired by giallos, but they seemed encouraged by the WORST tendencies of the genre.

This movie needs a cheetah bite on the crotch.
Just got done watching it. Meh. It wasn't the worst thing I've seen but I doubt I'll ever want to watch it again. It's a decent rental at best. The acting was pretty bad and Danny Glover is too big and good of a star to take a poorly written role like that.

Saw

Well I watched it recently. I thought the premise was great and was enjoying the start of the film. Unfortunatly, it just went down hill from there. Elwes performance was so-so, Glover was terrible. I liked the gore, puppet and quite a few scenes in the movie. I didn't care for the ending though. If it had a real kick ass ending it could have saved some of the weaker parts of the film. I'd watch it again, probably will not buy it.

I do have to state that anyone who think this is the worst Horror film ever made, must not have had the honor of viewing the festering pile a sh*t known as House of the Dead.

********HORRIBLE SPOILER BELOW DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN"T SEEN***************************

I finally got a chance to see it last night, and I'm glad my sister rented it so I could just bum it off of her for an evening. I was a pretty good flick, but I am glad I didn't buy it right away. I agree with most of the opinions posted here in the idea that it is a killer premise and some awesome ideas in a choppy script. I really like the whole ethos of Jigsaw, a terminally deteriating brain tumor patient (remember what Elwes is telling the med students) punishing those that don't appreciate being alive.
In it's defense, I do believe it is definately worth a viewing or two. And I imagine I am in the minority when I say that I liked the ending. The whole sequence starting when Carry finally loses it in the end up until Jigsaw gets up was great IMO.

************************************************** ***********************************

... and it doesn't even come close to Se7en.

"it features sub-PLAN 9 acting,"

Oh for chrissakes come on. I OWN plan 9, this movie is a godamn masterpiece comparitively.

There is not a line delivered in plan 9 which doesn't make me want to cry out loud. Stilted performances and overacting do NOT bring this film down like that.
I'd say this was the biggest disappointment for me last year (and in recent years). I was so terrified by the early teaser and the trailers, and couldn't wait to see it in the theater. It was completely different from what the trailers promised (shocking, I know)...in a bad way. It was boring, unoriginal, predictable and just didn't scare me one bit.
Has anyone seen the UK version that is listed as 'uncut'? Just wondering what the differences are.

Dogg.
