Ok I thought I'd throw in this poll (which may be a no brainer but lets see eh?) to find out which franchise / series of films you guys like the most!

With this poll I am aware that its kind of mixing new with old and in doing that its a bit like comparing eggs against apples, but what the hell!

So to quote Gozer "Choose!"

The Godfather Trilogy. Al pacino could eat terminators, aliens and orcs for breakfast and still be hungry for more.

Damn I forgot the godfathers.....

Going with Star Wars, eventhough The Godfather stands head and shoulders above the rest.

What, no Love for Trek? On a straight up average the films, you come out ahead of Terminator, Predator, and Aliens.

Lord of the Rings.

As if there's competition here.

In terms of undebateable greatness

Terminator=2 good out of 3 (though I'm in the crowd that liked T3)=66%
Predator=1 good out of 2 (AvP doesn't count)=50%
Aliens=3 good out of 4 (ditto above)=75%
Star Trek= 4 good out of 10=40%

Try again, bub.

Indiana Jones for me.

Raiders is the best action/adventure film ever made. And it's my favorite film directed by Spielberg.

While Temple and Crusade are both flawed films they've both got some good stuff about them.

considering I own and enjoy every film in all of those(for the most part), 5 years ago I would have had a toss up between Star Wars and the original cast Star Trek films, but after Lord of the Rings, its Lord of the Rings, all my dreams were fulfilled with that series.

Everything is debateable.

Terminator = Part One neve did it for me, but I'll give it a half point, two is gold, three blows. 1.5 out of 3, 50%
Predator = 1 out of 2, 50% With AVP, 33%.
Aliens = 2 out of 4, 50% (Sorry, 3 is bad. Real bad.) With AVP, 40%.
Star Trek (Classic) = 2,4,6 rule. 1 and 5 are either slow or suck, 3 gets a half point for being a great, quiet bridge for 2 and 4. 3.5 points, 58%.
Star Trek (TNG Crew) = 8 is good, half point for 7, half point for 9, nothing for 10. 2 out of 4, 50%.
Star Trek (Total) = 55%.

Heck, even Star Wars isn't currently batting that average.

Police Academy OWNZ this thread.

Back to the Future is another awesome series.

That and some others that deserve mentions:

- James Bond

- Indiana Jones (my fave series of all time)

- Evil Dead

and so on.

How can you have a "Battle of the Franchises" and not include the granddaddy of 'em all...?

JAMES.

FUCKING.

BOND.

Sure, there are several crappy ones in there, and yeah, they tend to be overly-formulaic, but still...out of 20 films (not counting the unofficial ones), there are some truly unforgettable characters and set pieces throughout.

I did a thread a month ago on ranking the Bond series from best to worst and here it is again:

I even included Never Say Never Again.

1.) Goldfinger
2.) From Russia with Love
3.) Thunderball
4.) Dr. No
5.) The Spy who Loved Me
6.) For your Eyes Only
7.) Goldeneye
8.) You Only Live Twice
9.) On Her Majesty's Secret Service
10.) Living Daylights
11.) License To Kill
12.) Tommorow Never Dies
13.) The Man with the Golden Gun
14.) Live and Let Die
15.) Diamonds are Forever
16.) The World is not Enough
17.) Octopussy
18.) Never Say Never Again
19.) Die Another Day
20.) Moonraker
21.) View to a Kill

As a series of films, Lord of the Rings to rule them all. Its my favorite because they ALL work. Then again, it is one film split into three parts, so maybe it shouldn't even be on this list.

Thats what you get when you start a poll like this after only 2 hours sleep in the last 48,.... Yup both Bond and the Godfather franchises deserve to be in there as do the Evil dead, Back to the future, Lethal Weapon, Predator, Police Academy... if not all for quality at least completion....

Still I was hoping that the Other option would cover my bets a bit.....

You forgot to list the most important franchise of all time:

"Dust. In the Wind. Dude."
How dare you leave them off, with their "Excellent DVD Box Set" on the way?

Plus a bonus disk! A BONUS DISK!!

Depends. On overall consistent quality, THE LORD OF THE RINGS have it. But if you're going for the highest peak, nothing touches THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.
This seems like a sci-fi/fantasy franchise poll since there are a ton of other franchises that could have been included.

I voted for The Matrix, and I've already made a case for it in other threads. As for Lord Of The Rings, the third film never quite caught on like the first two, and I have moved on from my love affair with the trilogy.

Agreed. LOTR is one film.

It's a close call, but I'm going with Indy. Having said that, I hope they never make Indy 4. Law of diminishing returns.

Its interesting how people are bringing up the fact that I've missed out so many franchises in the poll or the poll is missing non SF biased franchises, yet remarkably the Other (please specify) vote has only four entries in it.....
I'm going with 'Other' and saying the Back to the Future movies.

I know the sequels in particular have been open to a lot of criticism, but man do I love them.
Gotta go with Charles B. The Star Wars films may be wildly inconsistent in quality, but nothing beats ESB. Nothing.

LOTR, while being a tremendous achievment, simply dosn't affect me in the same way.
