Star Fox Assault post-release...

I haven't played this yet, as it's only available for rent at the dreaded Blockbuster. Reviews are positive, but it does seem to have it's share of problems.
Anyway, I loved Star Fox in it's day, and Star Fox 64 was great as well. Anyone played it? How's it stack up?

-Tangient- One thing I hate about most video game reviews is that the reviewer seldom says how good a sequel is compared to the game before it. They usually mention it for sports games, but not others. Like for instance... KOTOR, the sequel got ragged on for not bringing much new to the table. But if you've never player either, which is a better game? Both Halo 2 and Metroid Prime 2 got lower scores than the first games, but they were both improved over the first(in almost all respects). I don't get it.

I was excited for this game until I found out you have to run around on foot and in a tank also. Fuck that. Give me the Arwing the entire time, that's all I want.

I agree about the on-foot stuff, there's no reason a game like this should have it. They made the same mistake with Rogue Squadron 3, look how that turned out.
The tank stuff in Starfox 64 was great though, as long as they didn't change how the tank stuff plays, it should still be sweet.
I did read that only 1/3 of the game is "on rails", which is rather dissapointing. Star Fox was completely on rails, Star Fox 64 was like 95% or something. They should have stuck with what works, just expanded it bigtime. A Star Fox game with tons of branching paths would have been great, and bumped the replay value way up(the game is rather short apparently).
