Shadow Hearts Covenant

If there is another thread for this I couldn't find it! sorry.

anyway.. I broke down and bought what was supposed to be one of the best RPGs of 2004. Hell it was $30.

Everything I read about Shadow Hearts Covenant is true. Its unbelievably AWESOME. It does have the Final Fantasy vibe to it but has a perverse humor that makes me grin ear to ear. I cannot tell how much fun it is to whack away at monsters using a Gym Locker.

I'm playing without a hintbook so I don't know how far I am in the game but I can honestly say I don't want this game to end. The fighting system is very unique..and very easy to get into. If I were to recommend an RPG to the uninitiated it would be this game.

anyone else feeling the love for Shadow Hearts Covenant.

I am. But I'm not gonna get it yet. I have the first one and never finished it. It's definitely cool though and hearing such prais for the sequel makes me happy. Seems to be a bit more fleshed out that's for sure.

I've gone back to get back into the first one again, but it's been a while and my frame of reference is off so I may just end up starting over again when I really want to get into it. Besides, some guy in a mask keeps appearing and kicking my ass... By the time I'm ready for the second one my hope is that it will be easy to track down and reasonably inexpensive. The first one was kind of scarce for a while back when I bought it but they had it new at a KB so I took the plunge.

Considering how much time I spend reading about games, I'm surprised that I really knew nothing about this one. For some reason the box made me think it was a DMC knockoff. After the reviews I just read, I'm probably going to go find a copy tonight, I haven't played a good RPG in awhile.

After I play through this I'm going to search out the first one. While I've heard the first Shadow Hearts isnt nearly as good, I gotta know the backstory.

This game has taken over my soul.

I'm probably going to pick this up on my way home tonight. I have $25 dollars credit from trade ins at EB and since this is only $29.99 now it makes sense to me. I was thinking of other stuff and almost overlooked this one altogether. I'm still going to try to finish the first one before I move on to the sequel though.

I managed to track down a opy at an EB. It seems like only one store in the area had ONE copy left. I called, they held it for me, and I picked it up and was able to use my store credit. I kinda went out of my way, but none of the stores around here had any copies. I even went to a Gamestop in the area.

Apparently the game has been "discontinued" according to EB and "delisted" according to Gamestop. Two ways of saying the same thing. So it seems as thought the game will already be hard to come by if anybody out there wanted to look for it. It may pop up occasionally, but not everywhere, and maybe only as a used copy.

Great game, $15 very well spent. Has everything I look for in an RPG, turn based, nice cutscenes that aren't overly long, loads of boss battles, great side quests and a surprisingly interesting story with a good bit of humor (intentional humor even).

A nice reminder why for a very long time RPGs were my favorite game genre, glad to hear there is a sequal in the works.

If the Japanese could ever, ever get out of the rut of designing rpg charcters that look like this, I might be tempted to buy one. As it is, I'll pass.

And these characters are supposed to be in the WWI era? Riiiiiight...

Yeah, it's WWI era, but you wouldn't guess that from the clothes or dialogue.

I think you would like the story (secret gov weapon conspiracy/demon type stuff set all over Europe and Japan toward the end of WWI) but there is just enough annoying cutesy shit that I cringe frequently, so you would probably just shut it off.
