Alien, Acid Spit or not?

Look, I know there is a huge post on Aliens floating and I probably could have posted this in Creature Corner or in the huge alien post already but I felt that this is an entirely different tangent and could possibly fark up discussion.

Soooo I was having a discussion with a friend and we were both kind of wondering how the alien drool works...or more over as one post pointed out that in the newer films it seems like Aliens are just exuding KY jelly everywhere. Now my memory ins't great but in Alien they were pretty dry and what every dropped out of its mouth was in fact acidy evil corrosive correct? Aliens further expanded that fact but also made clear that instead of water it seemed more like Rubber cement (see when Paul Reiser meets alien closeup). Alien 3 was....well more watery drool but I don't recall very much...but I believe in Alien 3 the alien did spit acid. Alien 4 establishes that they can spit but also leak goo all over but I'm not sure if its all acid. Aliens vs. Predator which i did see once but dont' remember if they spit or leaked alot or what?

Lastly, if anyone is an alien expert can you explain to me if they can control if its acid or just drool and also that as seen in Alien 2 they can leave goo that isn't acid but more like snot.....so I'm just looking for a xenomorph expert here!!

It's drool.

I haven't seen 3 or Resurrection in a while, but isn't the blood the only thing that's corrosive in the first two? The drool is just drool.

It's semen, if you want to follow the phallic imagery through.

DaveB is right, only the blood is acidic.

As much as I hate to reply...

Actually, the main ingredient that was used to create the 'drool' in the first film was an ingredient that's used in making McDonalds shakes.

In "Alien: Resurrection," a Xenomorph inexplicably spits acid. The rest of the time, their saliva is non-corrosive.

Most things in ALIEN RESURRECTION can be described using 'inexplicable.'

Yeah, the drool can definitely not be acid (whether or not they can it is up for debate since it does happen in Resurrection, and there's nothing necessarily concrete establishing that they can't in the first three, they just don't).

But if the drool was acid, then the Nostromo would most definitely have had almost no lower hull after about five minutes.

Now I haven't seen Alien 3 in around 3years so I shouldn't comment but doesn't the alien spit at the one prisoner and while a human snot ball in my eyes would most certainly freak me out as well, I'm pretty sure he reacts in a "I JUST GOT ACID IN MY EYE" fashion.

I also hate replying to this...

But in the ALIEN QUADRILOGY documentaries, it's clearly established that the first film, ALIEN, used ample amounts of KY jelly for the Alien drool, and even shows footage of it being applied straight out of the tube. The milkshake ingredient you referred to was used in ALIEN RESURRECTION.

As for the drool vs. acid vs. acidic drool vs. drooly acid thing...

There's clear Alien drool, and then there's yellow Alien blood. It's clearly established that the yellow blood is acidic. Slightly less clear is how the clear drool behaves once it's made contact with a surface. In ALIEN, Dallas sticks his hand right in the stuff, with no corrosive effect. In the sequels, our human characters occasionally find physical evidence or burn marks left behind, but it's rarely clear if it's the result of blood or drool. The only reason for the doubt is because there's no clear explanation why the Alien would be bleeding in those situations.

Maybe the Alien also pisses acid, to mark its territory?

Yes, this is a rather silly thread.

It's KY.
End of thread.

This thread should've required only one response.

Inexplicably?

Look at ALIEN 3 again.

The first prisoner killed, who's sweeping up in the wind tunnel with the large fan at the end, finds the Alien hiding in the crevasse and thinks it's his dog Spike. When he bends down to get a closer look, the Alien clearly SPITS ACID into his eyes. This causes him to lose balance and get sucked into the fan where he is (as 85 so eloquently put it)..."diced".

What Kreeper said...and I like how everyone is on this topic like its a red headed step child yet there are 10000 posts regarding the impracticality of some random star wars moment or why Ewoks couldn't exist on said planet with out help of some gravitational moon field. In any event you guys have helped me answer my question to an extent so thanks CHUD!! THE HORRIBLE RASH IS NOW GONE!

There is also the fact that the aliens kill their own to get out of their cells in Resurrection. They wouldn't necessarily need to do that if they could spit acid.

But 85 does have a way with words.
