Anaconda!

It´s uncanny that they managed to get so many big name actors in this film!
Jon Voight, Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Eric Stoltz and Owen Wilson.
One of the dumbest and most funny films ever made!

agree with most of those, but Squirm is a very well made horror film.

add Cujo and Hitchcock's The Birds to the best list.

It had a funny script that kept it alive, I agree.

Also, can we throw in The Edge? That was one mean bear.

Fav. Jaws - got to have it

Worst - Andacondas

Got to add The Beast (I think that's the name of it). It's a good little squid movie they show on TV all the time.

Would Jurassic Park count? If so then that might be my favorite.

I read the Beast and the book was so much better, I was kinda dissapointed in the movie. Could have been better.

Remember this is YOUR favorite /nature/animal attack thread. I wanted to make a thread to see what people liked and dissliked about these movies.

Would the giant mutated bear in Prophecy count? That's one of my favorites, mainly because it was so cheesy, and the sleeping bag scene was too funny.
I agree that Squirm should be up there, just the novel idea of killer worms, and the close up shots of pissed of worms, made it fun.
Other good ones;
Kingdom of the Spiders - great ending with the town webbed over
Them! - Giant ants created by man's irresponsible love of science
Pirahna - I agree, a fun 70's nature attacks movie, even if it is a jaws rip-off. If you're going to rip off a movie, then why not choose the best animal attack movie there is- Jaws.

Really bad nature attacks, mainly because the film plots wasted more time than they needed;
Cujo - sorry!
Sabretooth- SciFi channel low budget cheese
Skeeter
Infested- gets some credit for humor at the start, but goes downhill with each swarm of flies attack

My favorities are

BLACK SCORPION

PHENOMENA

THE BIRDS

Would THE PLANET OF THE APES qualify here ???

And how about the ep of CREEPSHOW with the cockroaches ???
I love POTA (1968) but I wouldn't say it qualifies, just because it's about sentient animals, not nature fighting back ala JAWS, etc.

I agree Kingdom of the Spiders was great flick, yeah the whole town in a web and enlarging it showed the huge caccoon like area of the town was pretty freaky back in those days.

The best rip off of Jaws that came about in the 70's was the movie Tenticles.

The Edge should be mentioned in this thread somewhere

and now it is.
'Phase IV', anyone? I love 'Them', but as far as 'intelligent ant flicks' go, I prefer them normal size.

Oh, and don't forget 'Bug!', about the insects that were released from below the earth after an earthquake, and spat fire out their heinies? Mated with cockroaches and 'spoke' to people by spelling out sentences with their bodies? "No KiLL I!", etc....wonderfully bad!

...and based on THIS best-selling 'book'!!

@ Graham

Wow... that's quite a find.
Who knew that such wonders existed...

Kinda surprised no one has mentioned Frogs. Not a great movie, but pretty damn decent.

You know I was going through my DVDs and I found Frogs in my collection. I played it and found it entertaining.

Also have to add
Empire of the Ants
Ants(70's film where ants attack a hotel or something)
Bats

worst
Spider 1 & 2 (scifi movies)
Blood surf
Komodo
Strays

Also has anyone seen the movie (back in the 80's i think) about a mutated (orange Garfield looking) cat that looked normal but when you pissed it off an evil cat came out of the orgianl and killed that person?? I remember the end was they were fighting the cat on a boat in a storm and supposedly the hero drowned it. Then you see this little girl hugging a black cat on a beach and the camera pans to the cat.

day of the animals

day of the animals is a fave of mine because its a tad obscure and i love the scene with leslie neilson wrestling a bear in a thunderstorm, top stuff.

I hate bugs, especially cockroaches.
But i love horror films that have cockroaches in them.
They Nest is the best one. It´s surprisingly good considering that it´s a made-for-tv film.

Mimic is bad.
How on earth could Guillermo del Toro fail with this one?!
A film about giant mutant cockroaches that live in sewers and kill people.
Thankfully he made it up with his next film, The Devil´s Backbone.

The tarantula attack scene in that movie is horrible. It's a cheesefest, but I get uncomfortable seeing any man covered with real spiders.

Does the Walerian Borowczyk film of the same name qualify as an animal attack film? The creature doesn't kill anyone, but it sure as hell puts Peter North to shame.
Bring on the bad!

I love Deep Blue Sea, Eight Legged Freaks and Jurrasic Park 2. All of them good monster movies from where I sit. I loved Day of the Animals, Kingdom of the Spiders, Food of the Gods and Prophecy when I was a kid, but haven't seen any of them in years.

and of course, The Birds.

Empire of the Ants.
With Joan Collins.
