I don't know if it's been brought up but Civilization-Revolution is up on XBOX 1 for 8 bucks.

Xbox is doing a whole backwards compat sale the past couple of days. Snagged Ghostbusters and a few older stuff too.

Bayonetta - Wrapped this up. Still enjoyable and completely bonkers. Not sure if I really like Vanquish the way the rest of the internet does. It was okay, but didn't blow me away to consider pre-ordering on steam. Bayonetta 2 please.

Shadow Warrior 2 - Seemingly this got stealth launched on consoles Friday. It's a decent deal where you can snag both SW1 and SW2 for $35. Was enough to prompt me to return to this and finish the campaign on uber difficulty. After talking with Ghost I might be nudged enough to take on The Surge next for my action gaming fix, but leaning to doing some more Nier.

Injustice 2 - Think I've played enough to see all the ultimates, some fantastic, others just meh.

Playerunknown Battlegrounds - Still haven't cracked the top 40 going solo. This is a great game even with it being in early access. Lol at people who bought into DayZ or any other of its ilk. Still has some glitches but the game is so great that even after you get unceremoniously booted to the main menu you can just hop back in nearly instantly for another round. Why can't Overwatch's servers be this good? Worky plays this, game needs more chewers on board.

Horizon - I stopped playing after Zelda came out, it's just the better game. You know what level designers? Stop naming everything Mother's _________. I still don't know the lay of the land and it doesn't help that everything is called Mothers Butt or Mothers Dong or Mothers Urethra. Left a great good impression at first play, but it doesn't seem as special a month and a half later.

What a bizarre complaint. It's a matriarchal society formed in the shadow of an apocalyptic event caused by man's hubris and salvaged by a woman's ingenuity. And it's only in a relatively tiny corner of the world map, there's loads of other places to visit once you get out of the Nora lands.

Anyone else planning on checking out the Friday 13th game? The more I read about it (random Jason player, multiple Jason versions to choose from, 7 councillors but only 6 seats in the cars), the more it sounds really quite brilliant. Even more so if it turns out the "there is a way to kill Jason" thing the devs said is actually a massive troll to entice suckers into trying to take him on.

Finally finished Far Cry 4 on PS4.  I am currently at something like 99.9% complete.  Apparently, the one piece I am missing is a gun that is only available if you have UPlay and 30 tokens or something.  I do not use UPlay and really have no interest in signing up for it, especially considering I am done with the game.  Kind of BS that I need to setup an online account to get to 100% completion.  No thank you.

Also, finished Inside.  Cool little game.  Not sure if I understand the whole point of the game, but the puzzles were pretty good without being frustrating.

Playing The Surge on my Persona 5 breaks.

Its exactly what it wants to be, a sci-fi Dark Souls, but it trades polish/presentation/narrative for some original mechanics (no finding equipment; you target specific enemy parts and cut/tear/rip them off as finisher to get a damaged piece of equipment/weapon, that provides you with an schematic to build a bran new one using resources), and its more raw on its action.

A bit flawed, but a good case of innovating and experimenting with making a DS clone.

Was considering this, as I love watching streamers play squads. So on the fence I played at a friends house and rage quit after getting a bunch of loot then getting head shot to the menu a few times. There's a little issue with desync. but it's not terrible. Certainly better than H1Z1.

Thinking of squads?

Yeah, this one's been the biggest surprise of the year for me so far. I bought it on sale after several people had good things to say about it, and honestly wasn't expecting much. On paper it sounds like the last game I'd want to play, but the atmosphere and tension is totally compelling. It makes you think about space in a totally different way to most shooters. Every patch of open ground is a potential deathtrap, you end up glancing at hilltops for potential silhouettes, and the sight of an open door is one of the most intimidating things you can come across.

I mean, I still suck at the shooting part, but it's actually reassuring to know that everyone else is in the same boat, and even the biggest FPS savant can get wiped out if the wrong circumstances come along, or if they land in a bad loot area. I'd certainly up for some squadding, time differences allowing.

Have also got back into Crusader Kings 2 with a vengeance. I finally realized that the best way to get into it is to not try to get the hang of all the systems at once, and play small at first. The events alone make it worth it, and much easier to enjoy now that I'm allowing myself to take my time learning the ropes. What a fucking game.

It just hit me this morning that there are suddenly several games out or coming out I need to play, and have no money.  Friday the 13th.  Farpoint (it is driving me crazy right now knowing the Best Buy down the road from my work has the bundle in stock), Star Trek Bridge Crew, and the Morrowwind expansion for ESO.  Hoping I get some gift cards from the fam for my birthday.

One of my favorite games, the Saturday morning cartoon-inspired 2D MOBA Awesomenauts, has just gone free to play on Steam today. I have a crazy number of hours in it whilst also being utterly terrible at it, which should tell you how much fun it can be (and how awful at video games I am), so I think it's definitely worth checking out if you like competitive team games where you can play as an alien insect with a Mexican accent that vomits over people.

For anyone who decides to give it a shot, feel free to use my code here and you'll unlock one of the characters without having to grind points or pay for them.

Does this have controller support? I was playing and I could hear my plugged in xbox one vibrating in spots. I absolutely suck at mouse keyboard these days, my hand just gets all spastic when I'm in a firefight and can't line up head shots. Sniping people hidden behind an open doorway is hilarious though.

The Surge - Finished. There were some late game story elements that were kind of cool to discover, but the opening didn't leave you with much. Looks amazing on pc and it's just so nice and fluid to play. Not a fan of the level design. There's got to be a way of making an industrial space not all look the fucking same or getting lost as the ziplines take you between floors leading to more confusing floor layouts. R&D labs was the one place that wasn't a fucking mess to navigate. At the end I got lost and three floors up I saw the place of the final boss fight so I jumped down expecting to trigger it, nope, died. The game was so counter intuitive in where it wanted you to go, you had to backtrack four floors down and find an out of the way hole in the wall. At least with Souls games you can get a lay of the land and generally know where you're suppose to go, this game is shit at that. The lock on camera ended up being trash on a couple of the boss fights too, where it just kept spinning around trying to orientate resulting in my just getting splattered to the ground. I liked it, but a few bits keep it from being something I'd recommend.

Nier - Replaying this on pc, after getting reassured the port isn't shit. When will this game get like that first opening mission? Because right now this feels like I'm playing a real time version of Tales of Zestiria where there are these whole spaces of nothing going on as I knock out sidequests and main story bits. All this walking is fucking boring. But, give a Canadian a moose and he turns it into a fucking car. The traversal bits do not make me want to replay this two more times for the core endings people keep talking about. I want a fucking bonkers always on actionfest like Bayonetta please.

Injustice 2 - Got to the Green Lantern part of the story. Holy jesus that cat had me dying. Green Arrow and Black Canary are so cool, lol at the tv show for fucking up something that could have been awesome. Story mode continues to be great with the little character bits before the fighting. I kind of want to see a crossover of Marvel vs DC made by Netherealms.

I was supposed to devote my time to Persona 5 on this mini vacation, whoops.

I'd suggest to play the main story campaign until you get past the forest area of the campaign. I'm pretty sure that's when the fast travel points open up for you to use.

As for playing through the game three times, all I will say that you really only need to play through it twice. The third time does not make you repeat anything you've already done on the first two playthroughs.

Also you don't ever have to worry about missing out on chapter specific side quests, since once you finish your third playthrough the game unlocks a chapter select menu that allows you to access any chapter of all three playthroughs.

This game was made by someone who graduated from the grunge school of video game design. This part of the game is LOUD. Here's the part of the game that is quiet. OMG this is the part of the game that gets LOUD AGAIN.

Being married and working 60+ hour work weeks makes me impatient...or at least value the free time I do have. So yeah, needless walking between spaces is a joy killer. Fast travel sounds good whenever that happens for me. Thanks for your reply mans.

Hope you like SHMUPS disguised as hacking minigames, because once you get past playthrough A the game is chock full of them. I just wanted to hack n' slash robutts in stylish fashion. The demo/prologue is a bit misleading isn't it? The game is more of an open-world RPG than it is an action game.

Not to spoil anything, but I dare you to get to the true final ending without assistance. I DARE YOU!. Talk about carpel tunnel syndrome.

which is more fun, playing as a counselor or Jason?

If you feel as if this is a dumb question I completely understand...

Jason.  But the counselors are fun too (and that's good, as you play as them WAY. MORE. OFTEN)

From what I've seen, some people have been able to get controllers semi-working via Steam big screen mode but they're not officially supported. But with all this talk about bringing the game to consoles, I reckon they'll implement it sometime soon.

Anybody around here playing Friday the 13th on PS4? I've never played an online multiplayer game before, but it's fun as hell. Im Jimmy_The_13th if you want and know how to add me, and I'm going to be trying to get in rooms to play for the next 3hrs. And all weekend as well
post #10021 of 11187
Damn I wanna play so bad. Gotta wait til I get my PS4. This has addictive multiplayer fun written all over it.

I don't get it. I played Dead By Daylight for a few hours and it was okay but got boring really quickly. That game at least had very different killers to choose from. I can't fathom what makes Friday The 13th so much better in comparison.

Redboxed PREY yesterday. Nope, not for me.

So, if I've never played a Persona game, and barely even know what they are, can I play Persona 5 and not be lost in a sea of anime backstory? Or is it a Final Fantasy type deal, wth a hard reset every time?

Never played any other online games, so I can't speak about that one, but this one is just plain fun and builds tension pretty well through sound. Honestly though, the answer to your last statement is probably a whole lot of good old fashioned nostalgia.

The other answer might be something my son mentioned as he watched for awhile. He plays all those other online games, and his most telling comment was how surprised he was that there weren't more jackasses running around killing each other and generally trying to turn the game shitty for everyone else. He says that happens a lot elsewhere, and that's why he and friends do mostly private games.

Maybe the real truth is that while the F13 game is still relatively small, maybe it is generally a community off people seriously trying to have fun instead of being dicks. Sounds a whole lot like this place to be honest. Probably won't last long though smile.gif

I'm about to get on again though if anybody wants to invite me, or whatever it's called.

Agree completely. Everything is wonderful about this game . . . except for the gameplay. The DVD commentary is fun, but the gameplay gets really repetitive after a while. Worth checking out if you can get it on discount.

Yeah, you're good to go. There's recurring side characters and the like, basically easter eggs... but it's a self contained story that requires no prior knowledge whatsoever.

Finished the first stage of Rime.  Great art style, but I was hoping for more of an adventure game; I didn't realize it was just a puzzle game.  Also, there's a bit of a stutter when you pan the camera around, weird.

Rime caught my eye when it was announced for the Switch because at first, it looked like it might be a cheap, enjoyable Zelda knock-off.

But yeah, I like some puzzles in my adventure game -- I'm not really down with straight up puzzle games.

You know what caught my eye? All this fucking stuttering.

Ouch, yeah that's much worse than on Xbone.  I'd see more of a judder as I panned the camera around, like it was painting the environment at a lower framerate, but nothing like the freezing in that clip.

As I understand it, Rime started as a PS4 exclusive and then Sony decided to pull their funding. The videos I've seen of Rime running on the PS4 have not stuttered in the slightest which makes wonder if this hitching in the PC and XBone has something to do with the game running on an engine originally optimized for the PS4.

It was actually first offered as a XBLA exclusive for Xbox.  Yeah, this game had a helluva long dev cycle.

Whoops!

I watched Jim Sterling's video on it today and it seems like the game needed waaaaay longer in the oven.  The potential is certainly there but it just doesn't look like a finished product and has some serious issues.

I'm not really sure what people were expecting. I watched people play that demo a while back, and it looked like something that would lose its novelty after a few rounds, tops.

Any Gwent/Witcher Fans out there? I started playing the Open beta on Ps4 for the standalone Gwent game.  Not bad if you enjoyed the game from the latest Witcher offerings. I actually enjoyed that card game much more than I ever thought I would.

It's free to test out.

Anyone else try it yet?

I've had it for months on XB1, but I keep forgetting about it. The few matches I played were fun though. I even won once.

Just played through the opening mission of Star Trek Bridge Crew and loved it. Granted, you spend most of the time looking at tactical digital displays instead of the actual battles (that screen only has so wide a FOV), but it was still a good time. Hearing everyone go from casual to a steady panick while the hull is getting beat down by Klingons while trying to get everyone beamed off the Kobiyashi Maru was great. The only thing that really sucked for me was the Move controllers. Half the buttons I couldn't even touch because it seemed like they existed inside of my thigh. What this game needs is an in game position calibration where you can reach everything fine, like Sports Bar VR has. Once they have something like that using the Move controllers will be awesome. For now I have to use the controller, which caused a couple of sticky situations during battle.

Gwent is fun! The rules and cards have been changed enough to justify the stand alone version. And the animations are really well done.

Also, great job making the store a jovial Rock Troll that ooooh and aaah's at the card packs I open. Fuck I love Rock Trolls.

However, I won't be buying this. Because if my experience with Magic and Hearthstone are any indication, I'll be super into it for a month, tops. Then get bored and never touch it again.
