I finally beat God of War by being a pussy and switching to easy mode. Ares went down in about 30 seconds. Bittersweet after spending two hours trying to beat him on normal difficulty. Too bad it shits the bed at the end considering the game is so awesome during the previous 10 hours.

Phoenix Wright- Lots of fun although being forced into the logic and procedure of the game can be frustrating. There have been a few times where I think I need a specific piece of evidence to make a point and the game thinks I need a different and seemingly incorrect piece of evidence. The script is really good, though. ROFL, j00 noobz.

Trauma Center- Seriously, this has to be the DS killer app. So challenging but not in the way that makes you want to chuck your DS across the room. I love this game.

MGS 3: Snake Eater. First time I ran through it guns ablaze. Only now do I see the virtue in stealth. It's an entirely different game.

I just finished Resident Evil 4 and was mostly blown away, especially with the first 2/3 of the game. The Castle was just increadible, even if the Salazar fight was over in 10 seconds (literally). I wasn't overwhelmed by The Island portion. The Regenerators and Spiked regenerators should've been badass, but they were so random that you could just keep your distance and snipe them. The Krauser battle was easily the best part of The Island.

Anyways, now I'm just playing through some of the side missions to try and win me a chicago typewriter.

being tracking down the dock cars in San Andreas. God damned authorities keep blowing my damned patriot up when I try nab it from the military shipyard place.

Spent the past few nights delving into Eve Online. Only just worked through some of the tutorial missions getting a grip on what's going on. Using the 14 day trial advertised on the back page of pc gamer...so far everyone has been super friendly. That'll probably change, or not, depending on what part of the universe I warp to. Flying the ship isn't as great as I'd like it to be - it's not Freespace or Tie-Fighter - so playing it that way isn't going to work. I wonder how much virtual coin I can amass before it's all over...and if that's the kind of game I want to play. I've been curious about trying X3-Reunion but the reports of the game needing several patches out of the box are keeping me from buying it. Eve's been pretty stable. The system I'm in looks alright graphically, and the scale of everything is just huge. I love that I can train for a skill, log off, and the next time I'm online that skill is upgraded.

Also started a new character in Sacred. Dumped the Seraphim and decided to see if the Battlemage was any fun.

You don't need to win it, just use the save from your cleared game and buy one. Since you should already have your guns upgraded and probably a bunch of extra health, you will have the money for it in no time. You can also just sell everything you have and buy one from the start if you don't mind giving up all your other guns/ammo/health.

I pity the fool who doesn't play Super Gem Fighter: Mini Mix. Many have fallen to pocket Akuma's Akuma: Olympic swimmer combination. Best fighting game ever.

Also, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is pretty fun and addictive once you get used to it.
Right now, I am playing Call of Duty 2 for 360- its very very addicting lol.
uhh lets see, oh resident evil 4- kick ass game, love it. Havent really played much of Quake 4 yet, but hoping to.
I am currently playing RE4 (GC) for the second time on pro difficulty, this is easily one of the best games ever for any platform.
I am also playing GTA:Vice City (PC) since I never finished it, (I was about 40% through) and I'm also playing Vandal Hearts II which is a hybrid turn based/real time strategy RPG for the PS1.
Since I still suffer PC Tech Envy (I've got a Pentium III with only 733 mhz!) my online gaming titles are:Battlefield 1942, Unreal Tournament 2004, Gunbound WC, and Texas Hold 'Em on Poker Stars.com.
And by the way, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is arguably the best 2 player puzzle game ever made, too bad all my gaming friends refuse to play it with me anymore.

doing a trial of NHL Eastside Hockey Manager. First stab at managing any kind of franchise...the 'game' is just freaking deep as far as player info/stats go. The demo doesn't have much in terms of documentation; spending a lot of time clicking through the menus figuring out what's what. This will be a weird experience to try out - hockey without any of the immediate gratifying action.

X3 - The Reunion. Hey, blowing stuff up in space, cool - and it recognizes my 360 controller - cooler. Shiny assed graphics are a nice touch. Just had to download a freaking 100+ meg patch off the net first. Still don't know what I'm doing. Only now just figured out how to buy stuff from space stations. So far the game isn't a disaster bugwise as indicated in the online reviews, but I'm only 2 hours into the bugger. Without messing around with unpredictable, but for the most part nice, folks in EVE online I think I'll try this instead. For now I think I'll concentrate on pirate hunting before diving into any of the trading/financial options available.

GTA San Andreas. Only now did I notice that when I got wasted I managed to keep my weapons when leaving the hospital. Didn't know that was a perk for dating Katie in San Fierro. Just started with the 4 Dragons missions, but I think I'll head out back to the desert and help out James Woods for awhile.
Phoenix Wright- Loved it. The last case had more twists that an extra crazy episode of Law & Order. I hope Capcom brings the rest of the series overseas and includes more DS-centric episodes. I really liked how they implemented the DS features.

Metroid Prime- Finally finished the extra hour of backtracking I had to do because I'm a bonehead. Meta Ridley was kind of cheap but it was a neat fight. I am currently pissed at the fission metroids. I have to fend off a never ending stream of these bastards and try to get through an unclear platform jumping section at the same time? Fuck you.
Dang! I think I missed out on Phoenix Wright. It's one of the DS games I wanted to get and now it seems like it's getting hard to come by. I saw a used one once in a Gamestop for $17.99 and I should have gotten it back then but I didn't. I'll keep my eyes peeled though... It's good to hear you enjoyed it gravedigger, but it just makes me kick myself for not snagging it when I could have.

I'm still playing Suikoden IV on the PS2 and Guild Wars on the PC. For my gaming on the go I actually started Phantasy Star II on the GBA from the Phantasy Star Triple Cart or whatever it's called. I played that one a bit back in the day so it brings back some memories, but DAMN it's a hard game. Still fun though.
Phoenix Wright? What is it? I picked up a DS a couple days ago with Castlevania and Mario Cart, I've probably spent more time with those two games than just about anything for my PSP.
Phoenix Wright is basically a lawyer sim. It uses an exaggerated legal system, of course, but you cross-examine witnesses to find lies in their testimony and conduct your own investigations to find new evidence to help your clients. It's like a point-and-click adventure game with great dialogue and interesting characters.

For some unknown reason, Capcom has apparently discontinued the game so now it's hard to find. If you do find a copy, I'd recommend picking it up. I found mine at Hastings, which seems to be a haven of rare and discontinued games around here. I'd also recommend Trauma Center and Meteos for your new DS.
Yup, that pretty much sums up what Phoenix Wright is. One guess as to why it's been dicontinued is that maybe Capcom figured it was unknown territory as a game in the US. we don't get too many of the "wacky japanese games" here so maybe they limited its production as a way to second guess how it would perform, but who knows. Not sure how much demand there is for it, but it can't be that hard to pump out some more copies. Come on Capcom, us Chewers need your help!

And I'll toss in a Trauma Center recommendation too. It's can definitely get tricky, but it's very unique and full of intense fun. I've lost my share of patients, and a friend of mine tried it out over the weekend and was having a blast, but he lost some patients too. Good stuff.
Interesting, I'll have to swing by Hasting's later. I almost picked up both Meteos and Trauma Center but wasn't sure, I'll definitely add them to the list now.

Both are worthwhile. Meteos is amazing. There's a bunch of DS info in THIS thread in case you're interested.

For the past week:

Arena Football: Eh. Like Tecmo Bowl but not as good. Fun with a couple of people, boring as concrete against the CPU. I'm sure that Arena Football is a legit sport and all, but even if I cared about football I wouldn't care much about this.

Condemned: Finally getting around to whipping this dirty piece of ass. Great fun...well, maybe not fun, and I can only play for about 90 minutes at a time before I need a shower. But from the 360's initial bunch this is one of the best, and I've only got a couple of achievements left before it's 100% killed. Even the frequently terrible writing can't put me off.

Mutant Storm: it's not Geometry Wars, but is slightly slower paced, so when my eyes start to bleed just from trying to crack 500,000 in GW I can bump over to this. Live Arcade rules.

Now I'm about to pop in the PSP version of From Russia With Love. Either pray or drink for me. I don't care which.

That game, on all systems, is assrape. I'll pray for you.
Yep. And this is preview code, so it's unfinished assrape. There's nothing quite so bad as being forcibly taken but not polished off.
Russ, have you played the European and/or American versions of Pursuit Force? I've seen a number of people bagging on the European version but I really enjoyed the American demo. It's nothing earth shattering but I thought it was really fun for a quick pick-up-and-play session.
I've played it, yeah. Fun, but while I haven't played the entire thing, there wasn't much more than what's in the US demo. If you liked that you'll enjoy the game -- it gets harder and a little more varied, but there's nothing in what I've played that really breaks the mold of the demo.

bug free my ass. only two missions in to X3 and the game crashes after a cut scene. Should've just gotten The Movies or something - finally gave that a try via the demo. Found myself addicted trying to pair the right actors and director to the appropriate script. After the demo was over I got owned by every studio at the awards.

NHL Eastside Manager - only just started the season. Tried out several prospects who weren't good enough for the team. Learned half my team isn't good enough for Crawford. But then spanked everybody in the pre-season games. Strangely hypnotic to watch the 'game' play it's own version of slideshow hockey as my team scores and defends their zone.

GTA San Andreas - Left Venturas last night - headed home back to Los Santos. Those were some cool missions...and heading back to Liberty...not bad.

X-Men Legends 2 (psp) - picked this up again. Usually play it while cooking dinner. Level load times are an okay place to do whatever I need to do with the food, or stuff like that.
For what it's worth, From Russia With Love on the PSP is as good a conversion as EA could have managed, which means it's a great port of a pile of ass hair, making it still...a pile of ass hair. Even so, I'm almost more willing to be lenient to the linear, easy gameplay on a handheld, where it seems more in line with the control limitations of the PSP.

Fight Night Round 3 (PSP): Pretty damn good so far. Cool create a fighter interface, and my guy Gus Utensil will fuck up all pretenders. Looking forward to keeping this around.

Condemned, still: One more friggin' achievement, though it seems like there's a bit of dodgy behind the scenes bookkeeping which means you have to do a few things more than once to get some of them to stick. I've already played through almost the whole thing twice; if I don't get them all tonight I'm done.

Tomorrow, if I'm strong enough: Driver Parallel Lines.

Right now I'm making my way through Call of Duty 2 (360) on Veteran.

Rented Gun! so I could take a COD2 break (I'm on the last couple Vet missions), it's more fun than I expected but seems a little short and easy, great rental though.

GTA San Andreas - Finished. Total playing time came to about 65 hours since last summer. Now, I have Vice City to revisit and finish sometime.

X3 - Abandoned the plot for now, until the next patch comes out, and just started roaming the various sectors looking for pirates and increasing my pathetic trade rank. Playing this reminds me to eventually revisit Pirates!

The Movies. Bought; need to install later on today.

Eastside Hockey Manager. Canucks are still going strong winning their first few season matches. Also loaded up NHL 2k6 to play some more hands on hockey...

Lumines. Sat down for a bit the other night...nearly doubled my previous high score. It was 40k - reached 78k...unlocked 3 songs/levels.

Trauma center on the DS. Almost have the missions beat and I want to finish that before I get another DS game.

In the gameboy port I have been doing some heavy Golden Sun action. I got it four years ago and just never got around to playing it...until now.

The god damned Movies. Shit...nearly 4 hours spent managing my bottom feeding studio. Two awards ceremonies have gone by and not even a nomination. What's killing me now is my 19 scene custom script that's clogging up my actors availability. I'm milking the writers to keep afloat as I sell scripts that could easily be filmed...if I stick it out I guess that means the script quality improves over time. Just hired a new actor and the bastard just runs to the bar after every scene. Addicting but frustrating at the same time. Need to keep my flicks small and get my account high enough...and manage to tailor the scripts to the actors strengths. Only thing going for me is a decently designed lot that's fairly clean.

This game will own me when my wife heads home to see her mom this weekend.

Mark Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure
Cool concept, slick presentation, clunky game. It's basically Tony Hawk but with grafitti instead of skateboard tricks, and a really shafty fighting element. It drips atmosphere (and has a great soundtrack) but the gameplay mechanic just doesn't live up to the style. Not an awful game, but it's one of those experiences where you expectations keep rising and rising, and then the game actually starts and they take a big dip. Worth a rental if you like the idea, as you'll certainly have some fun with it.

And I've also gone back to San Andreas, in what may be the longest time I've ever played a game. It's been, what? 16 months? And I'm still spending an hour or two here and there, taking my sweet time and enjoying the scenery. The versatility of this game never ceases to amaze me - that I can hop on a motorbike, ride out into the countryside, walk into some redneck bar, beat some guy at pool, play an arcade machine, steal a truck rig in the parking lot, drive it off a bridge and swim back to the docks (ducking underwater to watch dolphins and turtles paddle past)...

I still dream of the day someone will apply this level of detail to a really good licensed game. A Batman game, or RoboCop. Something like that, where having an entire county to explore would be worthwhile.
You know... I received The Movies for Christmas last year but I've yet to crack it open. Work and renovating my house are top priority. I should take some time to at least install the damn game on my computer.

I've heard good and bad things about the game, but it seems like it could be entertaining for a number of hours.

Thank God I'm not the only one that does this. I've beaten San Andreas twice....once on PS2, once on XBox....and the game still gets play time once, twice a month out of the pure therapy factor.....just driving across the map to San Fierro and back with the right custom soundtrack on for a half an hour is more relaxing than it has any right to be.....

The fact that, should the need strike, I can shoot a squadron of cops down with a rocket launcher then jump the bike off the top of a mountain is almost incidental at this point.

...damn, I think I'll have to pull that game out tonight.

P.S.--All new video game buying is on hold until Black hits.

Just bought Grandia III and I have no idea why, as I haven't even started getting into Dragon Quest VIII yet. I've decided not to buy anything more until the next Zelda comes out.

Crow...I love you.

All I am doing right now is re-playing GTA San Andreas on PS2 (I never bothered to beat it, don't tell anyone) until BLACK comes out.

I got to Las Venturas before and started the Ocean's Eleven casino heist, but lost interest in the whole game.

I love starting new games and just hanging in the hood killing Ballers. The Grove feels really comfortable and I miss it when I'm not there.

I plan to finish the story part of the game this time though, and I don't regret a thing. This is the best GTA ever (even though 3 and Vice hold special places in my heart), and I wouldn't mind starting the whole game every couple months.

took me awhile - maybe over the course of 3 days on and off to get 100% of the hoods under my banner.

as for enjoying the sights of San Andreas - I lean towards just finding a helicopter and cruising around that way. Too bad I can't do what I love to do in Battlefield 2...which is load up a copter with c4, fly as high as I can over the more intense war zones, bail, position myself to see the copter above me, detonate the c4 destroying the heli, plop open the chute, and see the fucker crash into the ground. I've only managed to kill 1 guy that way...sadly it was a tk.

I just picked up Dragon Quest VIII for PS2 yesterday, and put a few hours into that. Fun, old-school RPG silliness.

A slime appears!
The new Pyramid Head image from the movie, and reading the wikipedia entries have coerced me to return to Silent Hill 1 & 2, something I'd been planning to do before the movie hit anyway.

I've beaten SH1 twice, SH2 once, and I'm still having trouble playing both games at night.

Also, while rummaging through my PS1 pile again, I found myself giving a few old games a spin or two. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Wipeout XL, and Jumping Flash have aged extremely well. Rival Schools still plays great, even if the graphics are putrid. The less said about Toshinden, the better.

Still sludging my way through Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. As long as the Prince doesn't open his mouth, the game's fine. Unfortunately, he does. Way too often. That is to say, at all.

I couldn't even get into the atmosphere. It felt terribly appropriated. Hey! Here's another guy you'ver never heard of who vandalizes cities! Now beat up this civil servant!

But I probably could have gotten into the swing of things if that damn painting mechanic wasn't made for a four year old with a DS. When a game about spraypainting uses more basic controls than The Warriors did for the tagging mini-game, there are big problems.

Soundtrack is really quite good, though.

I've been having a blast with Gripshift on my PSP and, in the mood for adventure, I picked up Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon for the Xbox. I played the first two Broken Sword games on the PC, and I'm digging the way they keep the atmosphere up in the 3D render, though I do miss the hand drawn cels. Ah well.

just got done playing half life 2 for the xbox. woo! i feel so bad ass. what a great game. some of the best enviroments i've ever played. that "tour" in the combine citadel was so cool (what were those giant frog like things?). too bad it ended in such a cliff hanger. and alyx is SUCH a cool female character (yep, dog's great too)

i tihnk i'm getting black next. been hearing many good things about it..
Full Auto: Not terribly good, but a fun way to pass some time. It looks good but has an occasionally choppy frame rate, and I've already fallen through the edge of one level and had the game freeze. Looks like the career mode is pretty easy -- I'm 30% through after about 2 hours -- but hopefully the online stuff will be fun. The basic racing is pretty lame, though -- lots of rubber banding, so there's really no way to win a lot of races without holding a boost charge for that last lap, when everyone boosts for the finish at once.

Grandia III: Christ. Everything that's dumb and wrong about the RPG in one convenient package. Cool battle system, but if I wasn't getting paid to cover it I'm not sure how far I'd go. Maybe it'll get better.
I broke down and bought Exit for the PSP. A nice Puzzler I just wish the character animations were a little faster.

Update on Full Auto's online sheeit: what's more awesome than repeatedly being spawned in a place where, when you hit the gas, you go shooting straight off into a wall, or water? I can think of a few things: tooth decay, that mold that grows in basements and professional sports teams without a salary cap. Poop, I tell you!

I got a new PC a few weeks ago, so my 360 has been collecting dust. So far I have played and beat:

Call of Duty 2

X-Men Legends 2

FEAR

Far Cry

Half-Life 1&2 Source

Aliens vs. Predator 2

Psychonauts

Still working on The Movies...

The Warriors(PS2)-Not too bad, just started so I'm not that far in the game.

Beyond Good & Evil(PS2)-Great game so far, about halfway thru.

DragonQuest VIII(PS2)-Good game so far but after playing the Final Fantasy XII demo, battle system seems a little too boring at times.

Peter Jackson's King Kong(Xbox360)-Okay, but I can't see myself playing thru it again.

Resident Evil 0 & Resident Evil Remake(GC)- After beating RE4 countless times I got the urge to play these games again. Never realized how much the inventory system sucks and really takes the fun out of the games.

no need to mention the other two games I've been playing lately here.

Project Gotham Racing 3 - A knockout racing game. Drove over the bridges in New York tonight for the first time. Enough reason to revive this thread...a cool moment.

Geometry Wars - If I find something else to listen to; or better, talk to people on the phone while playing this...I seem to kick some ass. Consistently getting 200k scores while surviving 100k without dying. Still got a ways to go but the progress I'm making is cool.

Marble Blast Ultra - Completed the intermediate levels under par. Never noticed or realized there are easter eggs in the game. Discovered some cool tricks with the gyro and superjump...

Quake IV - An early b-day present. Trying the bugger out on Corporal level...did a few rounds of multiplay and managed a win. Not many people playing now that GRAW is out.
Since most of the best players have apparently jumped ship to the 360 version, Burnout Revenge on regular XBox is now a barren wasteland online. Having neither sufficient money or motivation to get a 360 (and no, Oblivion's NOT enough), sadly, I believe my days with that game are fast coming to a close.

Thank Christ Midnight Club 3 Remix is there to pick up the slack. Haven't been able to do online properly yet (you're not doing a damn thing on Live until you have a decent Class A vehicle), but between customizing vehicles, the cool weather effects, the insane jumps and shortcuts to be found, and mining my CD collection for trip hop to add to the soundtrack, single player has been a blast. If there's a complaint, it's that autocross races are giving me horrible Gran Turismo flashbacks. I bought this game to AVOID realistic-to-the-point-of-being-a-chore brand of racing, dammit.

I haven't played Black in weeks. Don't really know why, I'm on the last stage. Certainly not because of boredom (the bridge and asylum stages were a fucking blast)

Weird enough, I've found myself replaying Link To The Past on emulator. Dunno how that managed to lure me in again, but, still....
