It's a great game. As far as loot-centric games go, I actually enjoy it more than Diablo. It's arguably best in co-op, but it's a perfectly fun solo experience as well; in fact, now that I've rebought it on PC I'm pretty much intending on soloing it all the way through (Though some Chewer co-op here and there would be fun too).

I actually prefer Borderlands in single player. ::kicks a can, looks mournfully at empty steam friends list::

But. But. Harder and better weapons in multiplayer...

Those two things cancel each other out!

Normally, but I find it to be a better combination in that game.

So after about two hours of Crysis 2, I ran into a game ending glitch.  This game is trying my patience.

Considering that I like FPS games and live in lower Manhattan, I'm shocked how bored Crysis 2 made me.

Currently replaying Mass Effect 3, but I'm getting bogged down in the multi. It's really fun, and now I have an Asari Justicar. Hooray!

Also halfway through Assassins Creed: Revelations. I'm kinda tired of these games, but considering nothing exciting comes out until March, I expect I'll be back for the new one.

By the by, am I wrong about that? If I don't want the latest Call of Duty, is there any great big tickets coming out this fall?

Sleeping Dogs next month?

Dishonored and X-Com in October?

Started playing Star Trek Online. It's pretty damn fun.

Borderlands 2.  That's the big one I'm waiting for, anyway.

I thought it was moved to spring. Yeah, I'd buy that one.

Decided to wake up the Wii, and start hammering away at the backlog there while I've got a bit of extra time. So, it's been a revolving door of Twilight Princess, MadWorld, Mario Galaxy, and Trauma Center Second Opinion.

It's not a good excuse, but from what I understand the game gets pretty intense and epic after about 3 hours or so.  Thus far, I am in the same boat though.  It's not particularly exciting and the pace seems designed for a snail.

Picked up Borderlands on the Steam sale. Better late than never, I guess: This game is fucking fantastic. Diablo crossed with Interstate '76.

Yeah, I'm really gonna have to grab Borderlands for the xbox I think.

Make sure you pick up the GOTY edition that comes with all 4 DLC packs.  Solid Gold right there.  I have my Mordecai currently specced as a Sniper/Hunter, and there is almost nothing in current gaming more fun than unleashing Bloodwing on a pack of bandits and watching him kill 4 of them without you even firing a shot.  I also love the fact that you can re-assign skills almost anytime you please.  I STILL after all the time I've spent on this sucker have yet to reach the level cap of 69.  This game is INSANE in the best possible way.

Been playing a ton of Borderlands lately. Just messing around with assorted soldier builds. Digging the fast turret regen powers, solo'ing my way through the New Haven stuff. Got tired of the browness of it all and after wrapping up some loose ends headed out to Jacobs Cove, having a decent time there - but fuck off weird mechanical zombie birds. Just got swarmed and could not get a bead on the fuckers.

I'm currently playing through it for the first time, and I've been SO sucked into the multiplayer.  I finally got a Geth Infiltrator and thought I was in heaven until I opened another couple of Spectre boxes and now I have a Geth Infiltrator with the Black Widow.  It's pushing all the right loot whore buttons for me right now.  I really want to increase my weapons to feel like I wouldn't be a burden in Gold level games, but I do quite well in Silver level atm.

Did they fix the multiplayer so you can actually play with your friends without issue?  The fact that they didn't initially use/allow Steam matchmaking was hell.  I literally bought a 4 pack with 3 buddies and out of a bunch of attempts to play together we were successful once.  I could get into random games no problem but on release their multiplayer was a nightmare if you wanted to play with friends.

SUPER STARDUST DELTA on the PSVita

The first game I download for the Vita and I'm loving it. Dangerously addictive timesink etc etc...

Am also still on the Borderlands train, on the PC. I never realized how bloody useful Lilith's phasewalk is. Bursting in and out of it in in the middle of a pack of enemies can make for some great crowd control, especially with the weaker ones like skags.

I've been playing borderlands and mass effect 3 also. In Mass effect multiplayer, running around as a Krogan with a Reegar Carbine is FUN! It takes their shields and health in seconds. Sadly not the armor :( However for borderlands, I've a lvl 69 mordecai whom I'm trying to make revolvers shoot fast as hell.

Holy epic nerd shitballs, Crusader Kings 2. Ive done a little reading, watched some youtube tutorials, tinkered now for about an hour on the game itself, just looking at the map and getting even the vaguest sense of the interface, now Im back on the youtube tutorials. I feel like I won't get a handle on this for at least a couple of weeks, but cant shake the feeling the game will reward me for the effort I plan to put into it.

In fact, Im a little scared if I really get into it it may take what vestige of a life I have away. Its just dauntingly, crazy deep seemingly to me at this point.

Morrowind. My God I'd forgotten what a great game this is. There's definitely some annoyances that later Elder Scrolls games fix (chiefly the fact that you will miss point-blank with absolutely any weapon on even the easiest enemies on nearly every attack if you don't have serious points in the appropriate weapon skill, argh,) but for some reason I still find it more absorbing than Oblivion. Maybe it's just that Vvardenfell feels so much more like a really alien world than Cyrodill's "standard medieval European fantasy setting" aesthetic, I dunno.

Picked up the Duke Nukem pack during the Steam sale because I was morbidly curious. First couple of levels were sort of amusing despite the super-mediocre gameplay, then I got to the Hive and I think I may be done with that game for a while. It takes a lot to get me too skeeved out to finish something, but boy this might have done the trick. To go from steroid jokes and tacky Duke memoribilia to horrific alien rape dungeon is a brutal 180.

So I'm thinking of starting a Crusader Kings 2 discussion thread if enough people are interested - how many have had a go of it before around here? I have about fifteen million questions and I get the feeling I'd need a doctorate in medievil European history to successfully answer them all.

...and I thought the Europa Barbarorum mod for Rome:Total war was daunting. Pfffffffffft

I brought it up about a week ago when it cropped up as a saily on steam, and a few of us grabbed it so there's definitely a few of us with it. Actually, seeing as the game's mega-complex and we've all bought it at once, a dedicated thread would be a great place to swap tips, good guides etc. Also, given the  game's reputation for throwing decidedly fucked-up occurrences at the player, we could get some fun commentaries going on there.

Fuck me, fuck you. Fuck you and the xbox dashboard and all the non-gaming elements littered across my screen. Fuck the bandwidth sucking videos pouring in the corners with obnoxious volume levels, why did I renew my gold subscription. Fuck the slow ass OS staring blankly at me as it tries to find and sort all the content on my storage drives. Fuck the game selection menu scrolling endlessly trying to find the game I just bought. Fuck that broken ass game that whiny ass Fish is too cheap to patch, why didn't you do a qa smoke test before shipping - and why didn't you save your free patch for when you really needed it? Fuck you for trying to pander to the Steam/Desura crowd, we all know you think pc's are only for spreadsheets. Fuck that programmer who tweeted he too lost his save file after the patch, you make yourself look incompetent. Fuck that bat that chased me around the corners of the world. Fuck the spider that jumped on me from above, and fuck your big brother spider who shits webs from his asshole. Fuck the spikes that impaled me as I missed a jump. Fuck the scorpion that shot jizz in my face, at least have the courtesy to buy me dinner first. Fuck the arrows that nail me every single time when I jump down from above thoughtlessly. Fuck the damsel princesses who make a muffled gimp noise, I now know better to throw you at the arrows and laugh maniacally as you're Meet Joe Blacked around the screen by all the creatures waiting to kill me. Fuck all the creatures that do end up Meet Joe Blacking me around the screen like Sonic Spinball. Fuck that ghost who appeared out of nowhere while I was busy harvesting loot, and fuck the game for not letting me cast my Patronus against it. Fuck the shop keeper who doesn't stock bombs. Fuck the shop keeper for shooting me when I bombed him for not stocking bombs. Fuck the measily 15 gamerscore mocking the 3 hours of playtime I committed thus far. Fuck starting the game from 1-1, every. single. time. Let the gpu fail, let the optical laser crack, I hope my box red rings and nukes my Rock Band dlc into oblivion. Fuck you Spelunky...for tapping into my ocd perfectionistic/sadist nerve center and not letting go.

Borderlands - Finished. Doing the Zombie Island dlc 3/4ths of the way through kind of ruined the game for me. I had a decent challenge up until that point. After completing that side-adventure every goal in the normal game was literally trivial. More of a slog to reach the end boss battle. Partially have the itch to do the 2nd playthrough and the Claptrap/Knoxx dlc's.

Ghost Recon Future Snoozefest - It's not that bad. They are trying with the new battlefield gadgets you get every mission to vary the experience. Still, just not compelling and the unravelling storyline is kind of generic. The spec ops effect casts a big shadow on my playthrough.

And all those aforementioned steam games nabbed from the sale, still downloading them. Have 433 games installed, taking up 1.4TB of space...should probably, you know, play the suckers.

Yeah, this felt especially rotten after Spec Ops: The Line.  It was essentially everything that game was deriding. Not a terrible game, but just generic, generic, generic.

I beat Resistance 3 yesterday.  Really good game.  Missing that spark that makes it a great game, but solid story, good action and fun weapons.  You can find it for a song these days and I recommend that you do.

And, thanks to the Steam sale, I'm playing a game I bought in a previous Steam sale. Divinity 2. It's good! I like using XP to read minds.

I still have about 2 chapters in Bayonetta left, I'll probably slog through this week.  Interest died for me on the Route 666 stage.

I need to get back to Spec Ops: The Line; I had to take a break after I shoot down a civilian woman who came running down a passage in the middle of a firefight...i cant believe I still feel like shit for that (considering i just had murdered a hundred US military men)

I finished Dreamfall yesterday. I absolutely loved the game, but I wish that it hadn't left so many things open in the end. The ending itself was really good though. It's not often that a game even tries for a melancholy ending, let alone pulls it off so well. I really like the universe from Longest Journey and Dreamfall. It's a very interesting world to explore, and I hope that someday we'll get to play another game set there.

I believe the guy who had a major hand in both of these is heavily involved in the new MMO, The Secret World.

as far as i know, Funcom was planning to go the Episodic route for the sequel, but it seems The Secret World took over their time and resources.

Im still hopeful for a sequel,  because I love the series (and Dreamfall ends in such a major cliffhanger), and its one of the few gaming sagas that has strong, well developed female characters.

Also, I have to ask:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Did the final scene between Zoe and Faith got to you? I sure did get to me....damn that sad piano music

Yup, Ragnar Tornquist; hell, maybe the Secret World might even  connect to the LGJ/Dreamfall universe....or not.

Hell yes, that scene got to me, ryoken. It was such a sad scene, especially in the context of the earlier scene when you figure out who Faith was and where she comes from.

Another thing that I found really interesting about Dreamfall is how angry April Ryan is in the game. It's a really nice progression from where she ends up in The Longest Journey.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I mean, if I had been thinking I was going to be the savior of the universe only to have the rug pulled out from under me at the end, I'd probably be a little angry and lost as well.

Played through the first 3 stages of Fear 3 co-op last night. Surprisingly fun!  It's asynchronous, my buddy controlling gun and slo-mo guy, me controlling psychic ghost dude.  I can shield him, lift enemies helpless into the air and shoot blasts.  Once in the air, I can possess them or explode them.  It's pretty cool.  You get all the guns and shit when possessed, but your possession drains constantly.  We had a good time.  Then we played the amusingly named "Fucking Run!" game mode, where you have to get to the end of the level while shooting baddies while being chased by a huge Wall of Death.

Well worth the $5 I spent on it during the Steam Sale.

Tony Hawk HD. Solid and fun, but I wish it were a little more robust.  After a few nights, I am nearly done with it.  And there isn't enough replayability to max out stats and skaters.  A solid 7 out of 10.

EARTH DEFENSE FORCES 2 Portable for the PSP.

One level I'm fighting a huge squadron of winged alien spaceships who are annoying cheap fuckers lead by two HUGE winged alien spaceships. I finally beat the bastards while wrecking half the city in the process and then the next level? Giant spiders. Shitloads of 'em.

I love this game.

Awesomely enough I haven't had a computer for a while, but at work I've been playing DayZ probably more than I should, because the amount I should be playing is none at all. Also kind of addicted to Civ V and Lego Batman 2, but I just want Borderlands 2 now.

I also need to finish every game I've purchased since 2009.

Started another playthrough of Dark Souls, after my first attempt was.... an absolute failure. Apparently I had not idea how to build my character, started as a Knight was distributing my stat points fairly evenly between Strength, Dexterity and Vitality, completely ignored magic. Needless to say my every move was met with pain. This time I've started with a Pyromancer, have been pumping most of my souls into Intellect and spells, and my god is this game easier when you have a lighter character who can actually fucking maneuver around enemies. Still dying some, because it's Dark Souls, but now I feel I can make it past the woodsy area.

Ordered up Arkham City from the library, and it seems like a great Batman game. It's a bit more arcade-y than I'm in the mood for right now though, so I'm not sure how much I'll play it.

Update on Dark Souls: Goddamn fucking giant butterfly motherfuck. My shield doesn't block magic for shit, and I keep going up there to get my body and dying 30 seconds later. I rolled out of the way of the homing laser exactly once, everytime he fires it I die. Need to grab a shield with magic block, but I'm afraid of dying on the way and losing all my souls. Oh well.

I guess I'm glad I never got into the Dark Souls games. I don't need that agita. They're like the Infinite Jest of RPGS.

In theory, pull-no-punches hardcore gaming sounds fun; in practice, getting the bloody remains of what was once my ass handed back to me dozens of times in a row made my dalliance with Demon's Souls a short-lived affair.

ETA: Infinite Jest was much more accessible.

Still playing Alpha Protocol for the discussion, but I got sidetracked by Just Cause 2, thanks to the recommendations in the Steam Summer Sale thread.  And thank you to everyone who did recommend it.  That game is a blast!  One of those where after several hours I feel like I just barely scratched the surface.

Replaying KOTOR for the first time since I first got my own CPU back in 2005. I'm floored by how similar some of the mechanics are to Mass Effect. Even story stuff (Mandalorians=Krogan). This is not a bad thing, or distracting, but neat to trace the genesis of one of my favorite franchises.

ETA: I've been playing a lot of games in general lately. Bought several off Steam Summer Sale including Bastion (!) and the entire fucking Prince of Persia series for like $10. Mostly I've been playing Binary Domain which is really good and I imagine underplayed. I also have been dabbling with SWTOR some (not in love with it, might play lots when FtP) and avoiding Witcher 2. I've been ignoring my 360 in general, actually. I dunno why I can't get into Witcher 2 but every time I sit down with it I just want to play Skyrim so I do. The Witcher (first one) and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood have been installed on my PC with desktop icon status since November and I still haven't wrapped either.

Meanwhile, DayZ. My undead gods, DayZ.

ETA2: I bought Dear Esther and finished it in an evening. Any one else play that?

This. I'm actually super stunned how much I'm digging these games considering I found both the show and the comic fairly derivative and by the numbers. Which, to be fair, this is too (episode 2 especially), but it's amazing how much more involved you become when you're stuck making these horrendous decisions with the clock ticking. The narrow focus of the story really gives all the decisions a sense of impact, as even seemingly minor dialogue choices may get referenced at an odd moment. It just feels much more immediate than something like the Mass Effect decisions, which while impactful, have to be kept largely binary and isolated in order to account for the variables spread across 3 games. Really the only complaints I can level against the game besides the occasional graphical hiccup is the over-reliance on the floating icon mechanic during split second decisions, and one or two instances of "adventure game logic."

Actually I think my biggest problem with the game might be the episodic model, specifically the timing. While I do think the game works great in 2-3 hour doses, I'm worried that having to wait a month or more between installments is going to kill the momentum for me.
