Fired up the ol' Genesis emulator to play this cult classic for the first time earlier today:

And I'm happy to say that it deserves all the praise it gets. Incredibly well designed and fun as hell.

Deadpool - I'm just going to say it: Citizen Kane of Gaming has arrived. Man, its polished (graphically) which isn't unexpected from the transformers devs. Gameplay is somewhat serviceable in that kicking and shooting work, but nowhere near as good as new DMC or Bayonetta. If I was a dumb 12 year old I'd wet myself at how extremely awesome this game is - but I'm a middle aged man who finds most of the humor just kind of stupid. There are moments of hilarity here and there but most of it just falls flat way too often - there are reddit pun threads more humorous than this.

Metro Last Light - Gave myself enough time between uber Hawaiian vacation to seap out of my system to drench myself in the dreary post nuke world. Fucking glorious. UI isn't so alien the way it was in 2033; world is still lived in and alive. Surviving is still as intense as ever. Just looks so beautiful on my master race pc. Citizen Kane of tesselation, fo sho.

Company of Heroes 2 - I really wish I bought a hard copy so there'd be a manual or quick reference card I could plop against next to my keyboard. Nothing a quick googling can't fix; just switching between assorted units and buildings while not being mowed down by Nazi forces freaked me out as I tried to find the buggers. If I ever get decent enough I may even try online shit for this game. Citizen Kane of menu's.

It's absolutely criminal my playthrough of Last of Us has been sidetracked. Will concentrate on finishing that off this long weekend (yes I observe Canada day down here and am giving myself a bunch of days off).

State of Decay got a vsync patch, so I may even download that. If time permits I'll resume my Borderlands character and see how the Tiny Tina campaign is too.

You slut! You said CoJ: Gunslinger was the Citizen Kane of gaming! You can't just toss that around like you're shaking your ass all over town, dammit! Mark my words. When Deadpool takes advantage of you I'm gonna laugh...because you were ASKING for it!

Do I have to be Canadian to observe Canada day? Or can I look vaguely Northeast and just say..."Yep...Canada's somewhere in that direction." ?

Dled the Tiny Tina shit, curious but not enough to stay up last night playing it. I think that's the first sign I'm an old, old man. I considered Deadpool, then I said, nope..gonna pick up Rogue Legacy and a few other things instead.

Everyone should donate to my new Kickstarter,  Citizen Kane:The Game.  I promise it will be the Citizen Kane of gaming.

If there's an SSX-style Rosebud level, I'm in.

Gunslinger after careful consideration was the Young Guns of gaming. Deadpool so far is like licking the floor of a truck stop glory hole stall, once in awhile you find a rogue m&m to sweeten the taste but soon enough it's back to just pubes and dried semen.

Also picked up Rogue Legacy thanks to last nights endless space foil card sales. Look forward to that after work.

As lord of district 232 I grant you rights to observe Canada day freely from wherever you reside. You do need to subject yourself to our culture in any of its many forms, such as this fine work of art HERE, or HERE, but if that isn't possible just lie to the customs agent when they come for you.

Just picked up Defender's Quest, which is on sale on Steam this weekend - a fun little RPG/tower defence hybrid, where you have levelling party members in place of towers. It's basic as hell graphically (Think the old Lucasarts Desktop Adventures games) and the dialogue is kind of painful - but who doesn't skip through the story bumpf when they play these RPG hybrid games anyway?

And as an unexpected bonus, it turns out it's part of the trading card programme. Paid $5 for it, and made $1.50 back. The game itself was good enough to be worthwhile already, but that just sweetened the deal even more. The Last Starfighter of microtransaction gaming.

I don't get why so many people hate the trading card thing. I've been selling them and the few foil ones I've pulled have paid for a couple games. If you care about collecting that shit I can see why it's frustrating but fuck it, sell'em and get that wallet fat for the Summer Sale.

Da fuck, I have yet to see a foil OR a booster back this whole system is rigged BURN THAT MOTHER DOWN!

I pulled one right off the bat from FTL and sold it for fifteen bucks.

EDIT: I think your steam "level" has to be at least 10 before foils drop...I think. So maybe that's it, Splat? And I just checked now the FTL foils are going for around $2. I guess it's like anything else. Check your inventory and if you've got a foil sell it immediately.

Level 12, so that's not a problem, I just think there really is a big luck of the draw element to it. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little hooked (this is the kind of stupid thing I tend to obsess over), but it hasn't progressed past swapping out duplicates. The problem with the system as it stands now is that since I've gotten the drops for all the games I own, I'm sort of just twiddling my thumbs until I either get a new game or a booster pack. Unless you're the kind of wacko who's going to spend real money on these things, you sort of hit a brick wall of apathy because unlike, say, Magic the Gathering it's not like you can do anything with the cards once you get them.

EDIT: For the record though, if I can get a decent price for a foil it's going straight to the marketplace. I'm hooked, but I'm not THAT hooked.

I got over it pretty fast, I sold the foil, traded with a few friends to craft one badge and got an FTL background for my profile and I was done. Everything else is just sitting in my inventory or if it's going for a moderate price I sell it. They flip REALLY fast too. The first foil I sold was a Rock Cruiser and I had it listed about a dollar under the rest and it wasn't up for more than fifteen minutes. I like the looks of some of the cards though but besides selling them just to have some extra scratch for spontaneous buys it's nothing too great. If you actually have to be level 10 for foils that's lame though, I think I saw that on the forum so I'm not sure if it's scripture or not and I'm too lazy to check.

Goddammit, who knew that a $12 copy of Space Marine that looks as if someone used it as a breakfast plate wouldn't read?

Back I go, receipt in hand, to EB Games to see what else has plummeted in value lately.

State of Decay - A morose non-goofy Dead Rising with a shit framerate that occasionally turns into a slideshow. God damn it's been ages since I've seen a game chug. The persistent nature of your character reminds me that I should maybe just play Zombi U, which better captures melee/gun combat and massive hoardes of undead as you eek out an existence. It's not a bad game but technical stuff hurts it so much that you look at alternatives that perform better.

Surgeon Simulator 2013 - A gifted gem from a friend. Did a couple of operations once more, did decently with the little saw and extracted the whole rib cage and sternum in one piece. Took a bit of fanaggling to reach around the stomach part to get the heart out and a new one in. Curious to see what the ambulance/tf2 settings do for the game.

New Super Mario Bros U/Luigi U - Made it to the ice world in the mario core game. Then did a couple of levels in Luigi dlc. I like the challenge, but it still takes getting used to luigi's floaty jump physics.

Now that the wife went out to visit her sisters it's time to crank up the surround, close the curtains, and make more headway into the Last of Us.

edited to add:

Rogue Legacy - Just an addictive game that keeps you playing. Leveled up some keep upgrades and unlocked some new armors, still getting my ass kicked but keep going back for more. Hit a brick wall where my gold output isn't enough to upgrade anything or buy new equipment - so the fucking asshole doorman keeps taking it upon entry.

Felt like going all Wolverine after the adamantium surgery and yelling to the sky...finally beat the eyeball fucker. OMG, look at all that money laying on the floor. I proceed to the forest section, got one shotted. Progress feels good, even though this game is so heavily a grind. Unlocked the lich and the uber Samurai. Gifted 4 copies of this to friends/coworkers, steam sale be damned, more people need to be playing this.

I laid that motherfucker low last night, too. Filthy, red goo spewing, pervy gaze having motherfucker! I was running a gigantic Assassin and I could just stand under him, run/dash side to side to avoid the shots and slashed on him. Then BOOM! money and a diamond on the floor and I was upgrading my castle and unlocking the Spellthief (I think it's called Spellthief). I think my favorite kid is a dwarf barbarian king, so much hp and they can just shout a lot of projectiles away outright. Killer game.

You can buy an upgrade so he'll take /less/ of your money but it always boils down to you entering the castle with about 167 gold...so yeah. Kind of a waste.

Okay so the Fall From Heaven mod for Civ4 has taken an old classic I thought I was essentially over and done with and made it as addictive as when I first started it. Its a total overhaul for the game giving it a dark fantasy setting. Its basically what Id hoped Warlock:Master Of The Arcane was going to be but kinda wasn't really.

Also having fun with Torchlight again after Ive finally given up on Path Of Exile as on a bad day it struggles to get above ten fps and no matter how much fun it is, it just becomes too frustrating.

After an underwhelming debut, I've grown to really like Neverwinter (ironically, it's sucking my time away from one of their other games, ST:O). I'm closing in on level 40 with my guardian. It'll never blow anybody's socks off or anything, but it's solid and fun, and keeps me coming back.

You doing a guild or something in it, Jacob?  My wife plays nightly and is somewhere in her 30's, if you need a pal to smash orcs with, let me know, and I'll give her a screen name or whatevs.

Rogue Legacy continues to be a beast.  Beat the Eye, but don't feel confident enough to head to the Tower.  Have never cleared much of the forest, yet.  Lvl. 52 or so, have the Beastiality class left to unlock, goddamn 5k gold!

No guild yet, I only have a couple of friends who play it, and the ST:O CHUD crowd doesn't seem to care for it much. But yeah, every now and then I could use a hand in a dungeon. I'll post my ingame moniker later if she wants to friend me.

The forest boss is kind of a pushover if you hit it hard from the get go.

More so if you roll...

I've been trying to focus on Assassin's Creed III... and then The Last of Us landed in my lap, but dammit all to heck, that frggin Animal Crossing 3DS game is REALLY where my gaming time has been going.  Bloody hell...  I thought I was done with this stuff, but NOOOOOOOO...  it just sucked me right back in.  Dammit Nintendo, there are other things I need to do!

To be fair, gaming on a handheld has been easier for me lately, and I've not been finding as much console time as I'd like, but I'm gonna do my best to find some more time here and there.  I know I can do it.  Just need to put a little moe effort into it.  In the meantime, I NEEDS ME SOME BELLS YO!

This talk of Rogue Legacy has brought that one to my attention too.  It will be mine, oh yes...  It will be mine.

BELLS!!!

Took out the fireboss thanks to the Barbarian King, I think, who has the projectile nullifying shout. Shit freaked me out at first, but spent a lot of time just running and screaming. Poured more points into health, strength, and armor. Spent one point on the Charon upgrade, the scaling on that perk just doesn't seem like it's worth it at all. The Assassin who can ghost himself is great for farming money and fairy chests. Think next I'm going to try the slime boss asshole.

Edited to add, my current death count is at 116 offspring.

Well, I beat it last night. I chose the good ending, despite feeling the bad ending would be far more interesting. I looked up the bad ending on YouTube last night, and WOW......that has to be one of the worst/dumbest endings I have ever seen.

I did the same exact thing as you. What a wacky ass game. If they could make that type of game without the stupid "magical" elements and make it played straight as a serious toned survival adventure, it could go a long way. But that 2nd ending is just ridiculous.
Swayed by the glowing reports in this threat I bought Rogue Legacy and yeah, it's pretty great. Like Metroidvania meets Ghosts n' goblins, with a pinch of Crusader Kings. I only had time to play about half an hour, but being fairly terrible at platformers I was really impressed to realize that you really are able to get a little bit further with each new descendent, and it works so smoothly you barely notice it. Think we have a winner here.

I also picked up a 360 copy of Transformers: Fall of Cybertron on sale. Again, I only got to play the first stage but it was pretty fucking cool running around the Ark blasting Decepticons. A stunning-looking game as well: the sheer amount of detail onscreen at once is really impressive, and while it's linear with scripted events up the wazoo they're fun scripted events.

Rogue Legacy hot tip. If you find the clown guy in your castle and you have the bouncing shurikens as your special power, spawn a bunch of them as much as your mana pool allows, and then immediately start the mini-game. Several of those bouncy shurikens will take care of the targets in either of the axe or dagger target practice.

Cube World - Impressed with what I'm seeing so far. It's like witnessing the transition from Super Mario Bros to Super Mario World, when compared to Minecraft. Took awhile for the two devs to sort out their store front but it's worth the wait. You need to create a user account before you can Buy It, it took an hour before I got my account creation email, but soon after I was buying via paypal and downloading the client. Technical notes are that you'll need to enable vsync & triple buffering in your video card settings - not doing so will cause your card temps to spike to dangerous levels. On my first spawn into the world I marvelled at how crisp things look, has that 3d dot heroes feel, before a turtle came along and tried starting some shit. Smashed him to pieces with my hammer. Walking down the hill I see a fellow elf, and he proceeds to attack me so I had to kill him in self defense and afterwards I sleep in his nearby camp on his bed. Don't remember if it was me who aggro'd a pack of cows, but they fucked me up. Probably going to dive in more after watching the fireworks tonight.

Discovered the fun that is DC Universe Online on my PS3. Never really played the superhero open world thing, so soaring around Metropolis and the JLA Watchtower has been a treat unto itself. This game may suck a fair amount of time as its a nice switch-my-brain-off title.

That shit was so buggy on launch I stopped playing. Quest objectives wouldn't update or complete. I fell through the floor getting stuck. By now maybe it's in usable condition. Maybe I'll pop the disc back in if I can find it. Maybe not, if it's like any other mmo launcher I have a years worth of title updates to dl.

Rogue Legacy - Hedgehog's Curse, fuck you.
I've been tempted to try out DC Universe Online, but I don't have the space for another MMO on my PC so I might wait till I've gotten a PS4.

This weekend has mostly been spent with Forza Horizon, which is an absolute blast. I've always been partial to a good racer and enjoyed Forza 3 & 4, but they've always gotten a bit dull after a while. This game's got a character you don't often see in racers, which is surprising seeing as there's a lot about the setting that screams 'demographic-grubbing' (Especially the rival characters, who all seem to dress like hipsters yet their demeanour's pure Brah). The driving more than makes up for it though, and it's great fun trying to beat your friends' times. The environment's gorgeous as well - I normally hate the 'behind the car' view in sim-esque driving games, but I'm using it here when free-roaming just to take in the view. A really great game, and one of the few genuine bargains in this whole xbox sale.

Picked up the complete Borderlands 2 from Amazon and just finished my first campaign as Zer0, moving on to the additional content now. Don't know why I picked another sniper character after playing Mordecai in the first game, guess I'm a glutton for punishment, but after switching to a melee build things got a lot smoother. There's still the occasional square gun, round enemy problem but overall it feels like they took the already solid mechanics from the first game and just tightened everything up. More importantly, I love that they took the weirdness of the first game and dialed it up this time around. I can see the humor not being everybody's cup of tea, but it absolutely kills me in much the same way Saints Row the Third did. Tiny Tina in particular is a standout, on paper such a forced "kooky" character but the delivery just fucking sells it every time. That being said, having finished up my first DLC pack, Mr. Torque definitely stole the show. I love how the guy's not a muscle-bound idiot in the traditional sense, he's actually pretty savvy but just INCREDIBLY FUCKING INTENSE. WOOOO!!! I think how much you laugh at the Badass Crater of Badassitude is a good litmus test for this game's personality.

Speaking of DLC, thankfully it seems to have gotten a little more TLC this time around. Torque was OK, but thus far the Tiny Tina Dragon Keep stuff is excellent given that they're even less constrained with the humor thanks to the in-fiction setting. Unfortunately from what I've heard I may have saved the worst two packs for last, but I'm gonna try to keep an open mind. I'm planning to hit them with the Gunzerker anyway so I can move onto TVH mode, so if nothing else they'll just be fresh grist for the mill.

I think I've opened a can of worms with Total War. I love the gameplay but the controls are fucking brutal, I feel like I have to constantly pause a battle to just get my units turned in the right direction. I have to watch some tutorials or something, I'm not sure if I wasn't paying attention or if the game is just bad at explaining things to me....or I'm retarded.

I started and finished The Last of Us over the weekend, and loved every minute of it. I attempted to finally try out Skyrim for the first time, but I just couldn't get into it. Now, I'm on my umpteenth playthrough of Enslaved, which is one of my favorite games of this generation.

I did the weekend playthrough of The Last of Us last weekend.  Great game, but grateful for Redbox.  6 bucks as opposed to 60, especially considering how I'll probably not play it again, and never touch the multiplayer.

Last night finished Mass Effect 2. Just installed ME3, so I can start that soon, finally.

Oddly enough, at the end of ME2, when the Reaver disengaged with the Prothean seconds before the Prothean ship exploded, that was like the saddest thing in the world to me.

I have no shame in pausing my battles constantly in TW games. None.

I traded my xbox 360 for a playstation 4 last month.  So,  I kinda have been limited playing games on my Macbook.

I decided to play both Witcher games in anticipation for the third game coming next spring.  I got through the first game about a week ago.  I am currently playing Wticher 2.  But due to my 256 MB card i have to play it at extremely low resolution with every type of enhancement turned off.

It looks like crap, but its at least playable.

So hyped for GTA5, I've been alternating between moving through the GTA4 single-player (I really enjoy that it progressively becomes clearer than Niko is an insane sociopath) and the RDR multiplayer (up to around level 34 there). There is really nothing like RDR multi. A good friend and I were dicking around in free roam, and visited the 'hunting grounds' where we were supposed to murder a bunch of bobcats. But the bobcats ended up murdering us. Massive fun.

Also been on that Borderlands 2, but I don't really want to talk about it. Its more of a sickness than anything fun.

I feel you on the sickness, Zhukov. It only got worse when I heard yesterday that they're planning more DLC.

Which I'll be buying too, even though I haven't even touched the season pass stuff yet. I can't help it. Borderlands 2 is one of my 'chill-out' games, and the more content they want to throw at me the better.

Bought Bully on Steam last week, think I'll fire it up tonight in preparation for GTA5.

Going through my TVHM playthru on Borderlands 2, and I'm starting to seriously regret picking Zero for my solo playthrough. Once again suckered into picking a character on style over actual playability, and now my melee skills are getting increasingly useless. I dumped 4 or 5 Golden Keys and thankfully got an SMG that's helped turn the tide a bit, but still getting stomped on a regular basis. After actually studying the skill tree for a bit it just seems like that guy is 100% designed to have people providing a distraction at all times, and the 4-5 seconds my decoy buys me just aren't enough on some of these Bad Ass minions.

Yeah, when I first started I picked him then realized I made a mistake when I joined a game with 3 friends and we were all Zero. I switched to a Siren after that since I enjoy being a support class, while my buddy took lead with a Commando.
