I agree there. The right is out of control lately.

We're not all so lucky.

By saying "No late fees", Blockbuster is trying to imply that you can keep the movie for as long as you want, and not pay any fee, kind of like Netflix. In fact, I think that's the main reason people are getting so pissed off about this. It's not that Blockbuster is lying to customers (which I guess is debatable), but that they are doing it specifically to try and drive Netflix out of business. It a sneaky and underhanded business trick. I originally wrote tactic instead of trick, but I think the word trick fits it better. They are trying to decieve people, and they get out of it by saying "Read the fine print".
They have a service (bb.com) for that and they alos have a program called the Movie Pass which is the same thing as Netflix excoet you get the videos at the store, so no I don't think they would need to "trick" anyone when they offer comparable services.

I'm all for personal responsibility, but you gotta draw the line somewhere. Not wearing a helmet whilst ATV riding is just stupid. This blurs the line a little bit. It's just where I choose to draw that line. I don't want to have to read a 35 page legal document just to rent a video.
3 paragraphs tops.

This is a deceptive practice and as such is illegal. It doesn't matter what other services they offer...it is very clear to all reasonable people that they are trying to imply that there are no late fees for rentals. There is an intent to deceive.

Agreed. I don't see how this is even debatable. They are being purposely deceptive, or at least reluctant to spell out the details of this new policy more openly and clearly.

Ahhhh, to all "reasonable" people. Well I never copped to that, so I guess you're right. My question is what do you think they're trying to accomplish with this master plan?

Competing with Netflix at the very least. Driving them out of business at the worst.
