Theat's amazing, I don't think I've ever heard of a console game ever doing this before.

Now if they could just get the $30 "platinum hits" edition out so I can get this awesome game again for an insanely cheap price.*

*I sold my other one, $$ problems and such.

Do you guys think knights of the nine is worth it?I'm going through Oblivion again and trying to do everything but after that I'm going to play the extra quests you can buy and I'm not sure it's worth the cash.

I gave it a lengthy review, ten or twenty posts up.

I'm sorely tempted to pick this game up again and start a brand-new character. I need an rpg fix.

I had so much with some recent bow/arrowing I've done recently, that the thought of starting up a rogue type character is quite appealing.

It's the prospect if going through loading screens that is keeping me back.
I know the expansion is supposed to be hours and hours of Fantastic Newness, but $30 is disappointing. Digital distribution cuts costs, but the savings obviously aren't being passed along.

Ok I just picked this game up, so I'm bring the thread back. How the hell do you play that speechcraft mini game? I've tried a few different things, but nobody is telling me anything new.
Still haven't played it, so can't help you- but you do know that there's a game of the year edition coming out in a couple of months, right?

Been a while, but IIRC, each of the 4 speech methods - joke, intimidate, etc. - has an effect on the subject. He really likes one, kinda likes another, kinda dislikes a third, and really dislikes the last. You'll note the wedges are filled to different extents, indicating the magnitude of the speech method. So if the person you're talking to loves jokes, and you click on joke while the wedge is full, you'll get the biggest positive response; conversely, if he hates jokes and you click on jokes while the wedge is full, you'll get a big negative response. And after you click on a speech method, that method is closed off and you can only choose one of the other three, and the wedges rotate.

So the trick is to click on the methods he likes when the wedges are fullest, and click on the methods he dislikes when the wedges are least full. Try it a while and you'll get the hang of it.

Yeah I had heard that, but the game was free and I figured the original would keep me busy for a couple months. I've only logged a few hours, but it's waaaaay better than Morrowind so far. I just couldn't get into that one.

I'll have to try the persuade game again, thanks!

They're not going to tell you anything new if they have nothing new to tell you. If a dialog option is still gold, then keep at it. Get your reputation with them up past 70 (usually, sometimes it's lower, very rarely is it higher) and they'll talk more about something. As for the game itself, it's fairly simple. Watch the character's face as you mouse over or select a wedge of the option wheel. They'll be really angry, angry, happy or really happy depending on how they'll react to certain actions. Select a positive action when that part of the wheel is as close to full as possible, and select a negative action when it's as close to empty as possible, to maximize bonuses and minimize penalties. It actually makes no god damned sense whatsoever, and I don't much care for its inclusion, but it's pretty easy once you get used to it.

I love the fact I've spent 50 Hours on this game in my current replay and I haven't even made that much headway. I've done the occasional murder for the DB, joined the Thieves Guild, got my Recommendations for the University and done a few random quests.....but I still have the amulet in my Inventory and I haven't gone near the bonus stuff yet.

I'm currently level 16 or so with 100 on Will, End, Int, and 50 on Spd and Agl with 60 on Str.
Are those genuine 100s, or with magical accoutrement?

Here's how I play the persuasion game: bribery. I had more money then I could spend through most of the game, and just bribed the crap out of everyone.

I didn't think anything could ruin my love for Oblivion, but perusing on-line hints/cheats did. About halfway through the latest expansion I started to see what I had missed out on. Pretty much robbed the joy out of continuing.
Genuine 100s, I haven't started to make Enchanted Equipment. One of the reasons I love Oblivion is that I can fuck around and power level at the start, get access to the cooler weapons and magick, and the game will still be challenging.

I love picking locks. Quite possibly the most addicting and frustrating mini game ever. Currently trying to level up to get the skeleton key thing.

I picked up that skeleton key pretty late in the game, probably when I was around level 20. I immediately regretted not doing more daedra quests earlier. I tried two or three early on, but the items I was rewarded with for my hard work sucked, so I abandoned the skeleton key quest early and didn't get back to around to it for a month or so.

It would have made my cement fingered hero's life so much easier....
The only problem with the Skeleton Key is that it boosts your Security by about 50 points.

Which is great, unless you have Security as a Major Skill and need to level it up.

Also, the Mehrune's Razor Quest is awesome. I'm just starting it now and the depth and scope of it are incredible.

Mercenary Armies, underground cities, and the Morag Tong from Morrowind (who has AWESOME armour).

Still not done much outside of the Mages Guild, Dark Brotherhood and I'm now at level 18.

Land Dreugh's are the most terrifying creature ever.

Mehrune's Razor is the gold standard of the expansions, IMHO.

I must admit every one of the downloads I invested in has been top quality, even the three settlement downloads seem to be well worth the money. Seeing the ruined chapel in Anvil and the horror scene therein was suitably creepy as well. It's just amazing how quickly the game can draw you back in and how much scope and depth it offers, I'm only just starting to play around with enchanting weapons and making my own spells (I have a 100 Magicka Fireball spell which pretty much kills anything in 2 hits)
Oh Jesus Christ, Drothani sure knew how to train his soldiers. I don't think I've ever been so near to death in the entire game, I pretty much had to allow myself to become a full on creature of the night to even make it through the first area. Thankfully the Morag Tong Equipment is just awesome.
I have all the little add-on packs, but I've still never done Mehrune's Razor. I really ought to get on that. There's so much of the game that I still haven't explored, and ways of playing that I still haven't tried. My only problem with the game is that I like starting over so much, and I just wish I could skip past the dungeon tutorial area. It's a cool idea, and it sets the stage nicely, I'm just sick of hearing Patrick Stewart's five lines of dialog.

Save right before you leave the dungeon and you can start a new game by choosing new major and minors, race etc.. Then just exit the cave, that way you skip all of the stuff at the beginning.
True, but I just keep forgetting to do that.
I finished this several weeks ago, and although I don't have a hankerin' for any of the expansions just yet, it was a very fun experience. My favorite quests:

1) The "Clue"-ish Dark brotherhood one where you play the role of the murderer at a "spend a night in a haunted house" party

2) The Daedra quest where you crash and ruin a society dinner, sticking it to the man

3) The thief ship/inn hijack quest

4) Hackdirt

I ended up with that disease that causes vampirism. Its not showing up in my status anymore though. Does that mean I'm NOT a vamp then, or does it take awhile?
If your character doesn't have pointy teeth, and has full stamina then you probably cured the disease somehow.

Still Powerlevelling, just got my Agl and Str up to 94 a piece, so one more push and I should be ready to start on with the quests.
The Knights of the Nine Questline is surprisingly fun, it's a nice little twist on the usual (go to point a, murder character/creature, go to point b, get reward) mission structure.
Good Lord, the Ultimate Heist for the Gray Fox is HARD, but the award was so so worth it.
Is it wrong that I feel bad that 5 of the Knights of the Divine didn't make it back from the battle. I've got two of the originals and a bunch of generic knights now. What makes it worse is that in my attempt to help the situation I'm pretty sure I killed one of them myself, or at least took off enough help for one the soldiers to kill him quickly.

Still the Armour of the Crusaders is very nice, and having the generic crusader, murderer, mage apprentice, storm antroach and fan follow you around is very nice.

Now to finish the Main Quest and hit the Shivering Isles.

I restarted that mission twice because I lost a few of my knights, I knew it was only a game but I sort of felt bad they didn't make it.I finally did it but I think it was worth it to keep them alive. For some reason it just made me feel better.
And by the by does anyone know if Bethesda has any plans to release another expansion?Or are they just working on Fallout 3 now?
The one thing that this game does mess up with is large scale battles, the NPCs have a really nasty habit of getting in the way of sword swipes/spells. Which is pretty much a one shot kill with the special weapons, Master Destruction Spells.

And Shivering Isles is the last of the expansions for Oblivion.

Agreed, the NPC AI to just to stupid to conduct themselves in a responsible manner.I wish they would value their lives a little more then to just throw themselves into battle.

Damn, I guess it's time to pick up the PC version and start playing some mods.
Urgh.

On one hand it's lovely to have new dungeon types, new enemies and a new landscape (I love the Morrowindyness of Shivering Isles in terms of tone) but by god are all the weird people irritating. It all feels so forced and fake that it actually aggravates me after a while.
I just started a new game, this time using the new official content (except Shivering Isles) and a slew of mods (gameplay, monster, spells.) Last time I was a goodish non-magical thiefy type, and I completed the main quest, Thieve's Guild, Fighter's Guild, three of the Daedra quests, etc. This time I'm a selfishly evil wizard, and I intend on ignoring the main quest and focusing on the things I didn't get to last time - Mage's Guild, Dark Brotherhood, all of the Daedra quests, all the Ayeleid ruins, and the new content (Knights, Mehrune's Razor.)

I would like to install Shivering Isles, as I think it would work well with my mage concept, but I don't know how well it would coexist with the various gameplay mods. I may have to download a pirate copy to check for instabilities and conflicts before commiting monetarily.
It's worth it, Shivering Isles is actually quite hilarious.

Shegorath's manservant is fantastically dower, and some of the missions are just ludicrously funny. At the moment I'm just walking around the main city with a torturer, electrocuting random people for information.
I downloaded the Fighter's Stronghold while it was still free, and I'm roped in once again. I didn't even make there once I started playing again. Got distracted in the Shivering Isles. The amount of entertainment I've gotten out of this one game is insane.
