Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper...

...tastes exactly like Diet Dr. Pepper. I guess the Cherry and Vanilla mostly cancel each other out. Don't get me wrong...I like it. It's just not some world-shatteringly new taste.

I'm fairly certain that Dr. Pepper already has somewhat of a cherry-vanilla flavour, making this the most genius marketing scheme ever.

- "Hey boss, great idea. We add two words to the name and double our profits. "

- "Good idea Johnson, you're fired. Pack up before 5pm, I'm gonna go use the rest of your salary for multiple OnStar subscriptions."

I love it though.

There is a regular version, but it's regional. I think they only made the diet version national, and this is a limited time flavor, too (unless, of course, it takes off madly).

I never thought there was any type of cherry flavor in regular dr. pepper, and the (non diet) cherry vanilla is definitely much different than regular. very tasty-- but I like things ultra sweet.

I haven't tried this new drink, but one of the student workers in the lab I manage mentioned it to me last week. I told her the name was too long and that if I was a robot, I would probably short circuit.

Soda jerks had been adding cherry syrup and others such as lime, vanilla, chocolate into drinks since soda fountains became the popular hangouts back in the day, but as far as I know, Cherry Coke was officially sold until the 1980s. Only reason I say this is because I can remember going and trying it at this local fair when I was between the ages of 5-10 and they were marketing it as their new product.

There was always the rumor that Dr. Pepper was supposed to be prune soda, but that's false. Last time I checked, the official story was that Dr. Pepper was formulated to taste like the smell of a soda shop. So you'd walk in and get a whiff of all the aromas -- vanilla, chocolate, cherry, etc -- together, and then be able to get a big glass of the stink.

From About.com... the History of Dr Pepper:

Quote:
In 1885, in Waco, Texas, a young pharmacist called Charles Alderton invented the soft drink "Dr Pepper".

Alderton worked at a place called Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store and carbonated drinks were served at the soda fountain. Alderton invented his own recipes for soft drinks and found one of his drinks was becoming very popular. His customers originally asked for the drink by asking Alderton to shoot them a "Waco".

Morrison, owner of the drug store is credited with naming the drink "Dr Pepper" after a friend of his, Dr. Charles Pepper. Later in the 1950s the period was removed from the "Dr Pepper" name.

As demand grew Alderton and Morrison had trouble manufacturing enough "Dr Pepper" for their customers. Then in stepped, Robert S. Lazenby, Lazenby owned The Circle "A" Ginger Ale Company in Waco and was impressed with "Dr Pepper". Alderton did not want to pursue the business and manufacturing end of soft drinks and agreed that Morrison and Lazenby should take over and become partners.

In 1891, Morrison and Lazenby formed the Artesian Mfg. & Bottling Company, which later became the Dr Pepper Company.

In 1904, the company introduced Dr Pepper to 20 million people attending the 1904, World's Fair Exposition, in St. Louis. That same world's fair introduced hamburger and hot dog buns and ice cream cones to the public.

The Dr Pepper Company is the oldest major manufacturer of soft drink concentrates and syrups in the United States.

i think that the cherry vanilla dr. pepper IS red fusion... they just renamed it ... brand recognition i guess? both taste good imo (diet and non)... but i do think it tastes diff. than regular dr. p or diet dr. p... maybe not so much in the diet... but it's there... the vanilla however, i cannot taste, in either...

coke + cherry grenadine is still the best ever... cherry coke tastes like crap compared to it... unfortunately one glass has enough cals and sugar to wipe out 3 meals and i tend to go on quite the soda-binge when i drink it :P

I don't like it, but I do like Diet Dr. Pepper, so go figure. On a side note, I finally found a good mixer for Dr. Pepper: Amaretto. A shot of Amaretto in a glass of Diet Dr. Pepper basically equals regular Dr. Pepper plus some residual alcohol.

Now if I can just find some alcohol to make Diet Mt. Dew taste better than liquid cardboard...

don't like diet mtn dew? i love it .. for some reason.. can't really drink regular mtn dew anymore... too sweet maybe? diet mtn. dew gives me the shakes... the glorious shakes yum

Lime Diet Coke is my obsession right now, but I'm eagerly anticipating Lime Diet Pepsi and Diet Coke flavored with Splenda this year. Here's some stuff we may see this year (from AJC.com):

On the way:

• Pepsi Lime

• Pepsi One (reformulated with Splenda)

• Diet Coke Sweetened with Splenda

• Tropicana Twister (from Pepsi/will replace Slice)

• Sprite Remix Aruba Jam (from Coca-Cola)

• Aquafina FlavorSplash flavored water and Aquafina Sparkling water (from Pepsi)

• New versions of Lipton tea (from Pepsi)

Under consideration***:

• Coca-Cola Zero or Coca-Cola Light (diet version of Coke Classic)

• Vault (from Coca-Cola/would compete with Pepsi's Mountain Dew)

• Blak (from Coca-Cola/coffee-flavored cola)

• New flavors of Fresca (from Coca-Cola) -- "How about a Fresca?" I think of Caddyshack everytime I see Fresca

• Advance by Powerade (from Coca-Cola / combination sports and energy drink)

Fuck 'diet' anything. I used to drink Diet Coke until my doctor suspected that I had MS.

I hate diet drinks. I'd rather go without if I was forced to go diet.

I felt the same way until I started packing on the pounds. Now, I couldn't imagine drinking regular Coke. It's like flipping a switch. Only diet sodas taste right to me now (with the exceptions of an occasional exotic regular cola: Strawberry, Jones Sodas, etc.).
I went 4 years cold turkey without soda (for high school soccer). I'm pretty sure if I was told to go diet I would live without.

I'm not suggesting that diet drinks taste bad, just that they aren't necessarily "better for you" (or maybe "less bad for you"). I used to prefer Diet Coke to CC Classic, but too much aspartame is worse for you than too much high fructose corn syrup.

Back on track: I would seem to me that adding 'cherry' to Dr Pepper would be redundant.

They're definitely better for your waistline. I dropped 10 pounds just switching to diet soda. Whatever other risks Aspartame may have associated with them, they are just that - risks. You're guaranteed to pack in calories with high fructose corn syrup.

Agreed.

I've been wanting to try this stuff, but I can't find it anywhere in northern VA. I'm hoping to find the regular version at some point, 'cause I don't really like diet sodas either. The only one I could drink was Diet Lime Coke, but now there's a regular version of that, so I don't have to drink the diet at all anymore.

As you get older, you pretty much have to drink diet soda - my dad gains monster weight if he drinks regular soda.

Young people drinking diet soda, however, are idiots.

Oh, and that coffee flavored Coke sounds like the nastiest shit ever.

Define "young people" , I'm 26 and fat, I've been going more to diet soda lately because I still crave caffiene like a junky, but I don't need all the worthless sugar that soda provides, and I'd rather not taunt diabetes too much. That being said, my weak will will probably lead me back to my regular mt dew sooner than later, but I can tolerate diet stuff just fine for now. I actually prefer Iced tea and coffee with sweet and low rather than sugar.
Back on track, Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper just has WAY too many words in the title for me to comprehend it. I may try it one day if it sticks around longer than two months, but something tells me it wont.

I might switch to diet once the splenda ones come out, since apparently Splenda tastes like sugar. Aspartame has that nasty aftertaste I can't stand.

Oh, and one thing I've been wondering, why is it that pop is made with sugar in canada, and high fructose corn syrup in the US?

We've had this in Austin for a couple of months or so now, and I absolutely love it. Then again, I like Mr. Pibb, so take my opinion how you will.

I've always thought that Dr. Pepper tasted kind of like Cherry Cordial Ice Cream, so I guess that'd be a mixture of cherry, vanilla, and slight chocolate. Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper is too many words though. It sounds like the adjective fairy smacked it with his dick.
