The more I see it, the more I like it.

WOW!

This is brilliant entertainment. $3m private donations for a below-par TV show. It's like a freak show!

I caught the first episode of the original Star Trek the other night. It had everything an intelligent 60s audience could want.

- Thought provoking science fiction.

- A bit of humour, abit of tension (in other words, emotional engagement)

- A mixed racial cast (unprecedented at the time)

- Kirk's shirt getting ripped in a blatantly unecessary fisticuffs match.

Absolutely brilliant. It holds its own even today. In the 60s, it would have been truly ahead of its time.

Now I can imagine people getting worked up over that, in 1967.

But Enterprise, and that sacharine-full theme tune? (which is mentioned in the press release)? If it wasn't for the "Star Trek" tagline, who would honestly give it any time?

I reckon a few people have got their nostalgia for the inspiring 60s show, mixed up with this current (and awful) 'Enterprise' effort.

I think a lot of it is a kind of automatic reflex action on the part of "Star Trek" fans.
And a lot of the rest of it is the idea for the first time since 1987 there will be no currently running Star Trek show on TV. If you had another Trek show on or a new one announced, I don't think you would be seeing all this "Save Enterprise" silliness.
A lot of the younger fans have never known a world without a current Star Trek series, whereas for the older ones it's just back to the way it was before 1987.

This is great news! I'm a huge fan. Here's a picture of me after the surgery.

...For whatever the hell it's worth:

The Boston Herald reporting that Spike TV may be picking up a fifth season of Enterprise.

This is getting bruited around the 'net at places like The Digital Bits, but didn't see it up here yet.

Where this grass-roots campaign for "Angel?"

I love the original series and Deep Space 9, but Enterprise had no reason to exist. Made no sense that their technology was more advanced than Kirk's.
