The Return of CHUDSTORIES

When are the Pulp Crime stories due by?
Happy to see this thing back on track. My Pulp Crime story is on the way.
It's absolutely great to see fresh blood pumped into the Chudstories section. I have one question though - there were a few stories submitted for the last topic (movie universes) that never got published. Will they be put up or is this a new dawn for Chudstories, and all that went before is no more?
Is there a way to format this better? Perhaps a link that says "View on White" or have a downloadable PDF maybe? Something to make the experience a little different than a CHUD report perhaps?

I don't have any of those submissions myself (and I'm not sure about Nick), but if they're still around, there's a good chance they'll see the light of day as well. Stay tuned.

Probably not. CHUDstories is CHUD... and the way it is now is probably the most navigation-friendly and intuitive it can be while in the confines of the current site's layout.

It's still very much fetal and who knows what may happen in the future. I'm sure it'll take some time to adjust to its new format for those still familiar with the old version, but ultimately, it should become just one more in the slew of varieties that CHUD has to offer. So for now, bear with us, please.

Have fun, guys. Let's see if we can keep this bitch alive.

George

Cool. What is Pulp Crime, exactly?
Yeah, I have a couple of pieces I've been working on that could apply to this, but I'd like some clarification.
we have to write to a genre? booooo!

still, if this sticks around i guess it'll be better than most creative writing courses, assuming reactions from chewers will be as honest as usual.

hell, i might even learn some grammar.

'pulp crime'. now what the crap is that...
Is there going to be a proper archive that doesn't rely on dates?
Are we limited strictly to the current topic? I've got a couple of follow-ups to my entry in the "Further Adventures of ..." that I'd like to see the light of day.

And I second the call for some other indexing system besides by date. It's hard enough finding an old DVD or film review with it, let alone stories. Be nice to search by author rather than trying to remember the month you saw it in.
PULP CRIME is basically crime stories. Hard-boiled and edgy stuff. Think noir.

Well, the usual archive (relying on dates) will still be around but there's also this page... http://chud.com/stories/1594... that will link to the individual sections of CHUDstories and provide an archive as new (and old) stuff begins hitting the site.

Naw, go nuts with the old stuff as well. There was nothing in the archive for the "Further Adventures of..." so yeah, let's get some shit in there.

I'll work on an archive similar to the one on the old site. Check the link above and from there you'll see what I mean.

Really? I remember having something of mine put up under that category, I'll re-send it.
Yeah, please do.
FIRST! I sent in one of the many Pulp Crime stories in my d-base.
*shakes off dust*

wow. I had to come out of my coma for this one! I need a place to make me write.

query: All the old stuff is going to be transferred, correct? I know that there was another place people used to submit to me (chudstories@wyrdimages.com) and there are probably a few there in the inbox.

do you want those?

Also
I found that a lot of the people who submitted didn't get back to me on edits. Is this going to involve editing at all, or just straight up publishing?

Right now there is no editor. We could use one but I am wary of involving another person who just might disappear after a couple of weeks.
Are the threads for the stories intended to be a place to offer workshop-like critique, or just comments/thoughts about the stories? It's one thing if writers are looking for critique and another if they just want people to take or leave what they've got as is. Just wondering.

Oooh oooh, pick me. I'm back for good and I did some editing for CHUDStories towards the end.
A nice "printer friendly" version of these stories would be nice so I could print them out and read them at my own leisure.

At the moment, definitely. Since there's currently no official editor (as Nick stated), this forum is gonna have to double as a place for comments/pats on the back as well as critique/slaps to the face. Just as well too since this is one of the quietest forums on the boards.

It could be something cool if people get involved.

You know, when I wrote "Safe Mode," I meant for the jargon to be deliberately obscure, but I can hardly remember what half that stuff is supposed to mean....

We must crack down on these story-sharers!
Question...can we submit anything, or just the given topic at this point?

Just the given topics. Those will slowly expand over time too.
I wrote a pulp crime story! Yay me!
I'll proof it tomorrow and send it to Mr Chest.
I also sent him two for the 'twisted childhood' section that i hope get printed.
Has everyone else has been getting busy too?
Finished off the sequel to my Cutting Room Floor piece, and I have an idea for a pulp crime story that I've been noodling around with.
Yeah I did one too.

If it doesn't get prinited, maybe I'll post it up here for shredding.
Alright, fellas... a couple of things:

1.) We've got another main man on board. An actual editor! KIRBY DRUMMOND. Submissions will be sent to him, Nick, and myself. Kirby is gonna be doing the bulk of dealing with your actual writing (as much as I'd love to, I've got a million other things that demand my attention). I'm going to be handling the technical related stuff for the most part, and whether you like it or not, I'll still be around posting dozens upon dozens of threads in this forum hoping to spark awareness/interest/discussion/critique.

2.) The archive of old CHUDstories is pretty damn large. So, instead of unleasing a couple each day, they're all going to be published and left in the current archives for perusal at your own leisure. I apologize to those who won't get to see their old stories put up on the front page. If it's any consolation, they're at least archived in a place now where everyone will actually get a chance to check 'em out. Really, it's high time we started getting freshness "all up in this muthafucka" as the "too cool for school" may say. That means you can expect to see your submissions A LOT sooner than originally anticipated.

I believe that's it. Happy writing, guys!
I don't have all my plans in place yet, but I'm going to try and increase the submissions the site gets and try to increase competition. So do your best work.

I will respond to all stories and you may get a standard response telling you to re-work the story or you may get more specific notes. But it will not be a workshop. Stories that are accepted will be proofed and published. Stories should be submitted in the text of an e-mail. Attachments will not be opened. Include at the top of your submission: your name, your address, your e-mail address, and a short bio.

The site is looking for submissions of short fiction so submissions should be kept to 15 pages and under. Pieces in excess of that will not be read.

Please understand that reading and responding to stories takes time. Do not follow up a submission with a question of when you will hear back or when it will be published or any of that. We'll let you know.

Subjects or "story challenges" will be posted on either a monthly or bi-monthly basis. Pulp Crime will be in effect until the end of March. But any type of story can be submitted at any time.

More information as it comes available.
Do stories sent in in the last week or so need to be resent to you, Kirby?
Nah, he's got everything now that was originally sent to both Nick and myself.
The Kirb-man Cometh!
I would love to be involved in this but I have a few questions...

1) Can anyone join or do you have to register first.

2) Do you have to make a story about the current subject ie The Crime Fiction at the moment or can you submit stories for the older sections such as creature features...

3) I am mainly a fantasy type writer so would fantasy fit under sci fi or am I gonna have to wait a while for you to introduce that...
This puppy is back in full swing! I can't comment on them all, but rest assured I'm reading them every chance I can get. Whether it's regurgitation of old submissions or the whipping out of the new...keep up the great work! I'm really happy to see this pick up again. Yay!
