Speaking of official, Warner HAS just announced Batman: The Animated Series - Volume Three for DVD release on 5/24 (SRP $44.98). Also coming on that day are Superfriends: The Complete Second Season ($26.99) and The Batman: Training for Power - Season One, Volume One ($14.97). And get this... Thundercats: Season One, Volume One is also soon to be announced by Warner. Thundercats hhhoooooooooo!!!
I wonder if they'll include the Thundercats audio outtakes that are on the web. Now that's something I'd buy the DVDs for.

Man, if you are not six years old, and you buy and watch Thundercats on DVD, you deserve all the pain you get.

Eh?

heh what do you mean? One of my mates went as Cheetara to our last Halloween party.

Was ace!

Reckon if I've room for Akira, then I've got room for Thundercats.

Though it now raises my mental age to 6!

Woo Hoo!

I can understand buying B:TAS on DVD, because it's a good, quality show. You can watch episodes of it again and again, for the stories and for the artistry behind the series.

But Thundercats is crap. Don't waste your money on nostalgia.

Nothing can top Mumm-Ra screaming "MUTHA FUCKA!"

I need to start saying, "Was ace!" at every opportunity.

after the second collection, I am now dying to see the Ra's Al Ghul episodes again. Those were fantastic.

And yes, Thundercats is such a pitiful show, it makes me want to kick my childhood in the nuts for actually liking that show.

Dude, they totally sell Thundercats T-shirts at Hot Topic. We should go buy some.

The majority of Thundercats episodes do suck. Make no mistake about that. The only really good ones are the first few which are on video (Exodus and Ghost Warrior, to name a couple).

However, regardless of its flaws, it has one of the greatest openings and theme songs in cartoon history. If that doesn't get a 6-year old hyped, I don't know what will. And anyone who loved it then will love it now. It's nostalgic.

Now where's my fucking Silverhawks?!

No, seriously. The show is god awful. I loved it when I was a kid. LOVED it.

I saw it again through adult eyes, and I wanted to go back in time and beat the crap out of myself.

Half the shows I revisit suck now. I wonder what was wrong with me. However, I do still think Mumm-Ra is still one scary looking sonofabitch. Not scary enough to make me buy the DVD, though

Nothing was wrong with you. Most of us were probably like, five or six when these shows were on the air. You can't be expected to know what's good when you still think Cap'n Crunch is a part of your nutritious breakfast.
Hey, I eat Cap'n Crunch everyday! However, I agree that the only way Thundercats is enjoyable anymore is as nostalgia.

That shit will tear the skin off the roof of your mouth. It's like eating sugared coal.

How long has it been since Count Chocula bought you?

I'm a Cinnamon Toast Crunch man.

That new Pebbles Marshmallow cereal is too sweet.

I got stomach cancer just by reading this thread.

That was the funniest thing I read all goddam day.

Gotta go with Helix on this one. Thundercats was great as a kid. As an adult, it's the pitts. Oh, and Count Chocula owns my ass.

Bought it [didn't even know it was out this week!]

Ra's Al Ghul episodes rock, not only because they're damn solid but because when I watched these when I was little I didn't know what oarder they were in.......some of these episodes show off just how great the series was and while I was watching it I could see them improving on their episode direction.......

Personal favorite is Baby doll and the Poison Ivy settled down one........the former because the ending is something I rmember from it's original showings, and the latter because I caught it on T.V. at around 4 a.m. one night.

Buy it, buy it now!

I'm kinda surprised no one, except for Darth here, has really mentioned this. I don't think it was in the Special Edition this week and found a review on dvdtalk that alerted me to the release. The other Batman:TAS thread were thronged with people singing the show's praises. I know I won't be picking mine up until I get some money, but did everyone else just stop caring? Dammit, I must know!

The really interesting thing is on the third commentary track they say they could release a complete set of the music, because the commentary includes Shirley Walker [the shows composer] she makes mention that every bit of music is archived and it could see release one day.....

Now that's Wat I would kill for, a box set with every main characters theme, not to mention the fact every episode had it's own distinct theme. That'd be so awesome.
Oh I havent forgotten...I just havent gotten around to picking it up yet.

This set really does have some of the best episodes though.

Although, I am curious about the WB era of episodes for this show...i.e. Tales of the Dark Knight (3 kids telling stories about what they think Batman is like, one of which is a perfect translation of The Dark Knight Returns era Batman fighting the leader of the Mutants.), or the Batgirl episode where she dies and Gordon goes after Batman and Company

There's an episode that completely abandons Batman 4 minutes in to tell a bounty hunter tale with a cameo by Ra' Al Ghul set in the old west.....

....what an awesome show.

Other great episodes are lockdown, Trial, Riddlers Reform, they're all great. I like how this set is more about the rogues villain as a collective [i.e. Trial where they all get screentime].

Trial may infact be my fave of the set.......

"Shoot him!"
"Hang him!"
"HIT 'EM WITH A ROCK"

yea the jonah hexx episode always made me scratch my head as a kid. Me and my friends used to think that maybe Hexx is one of batman's ancestors or some other other made up kiddie talk. A few years later I realized it was just a branching out by the creators.

I must have been the only kid in America who thought Thundercats was stupid when it was on, the way some of my friends talk so glowingly about it. I mean it's essentially Conan The Barbarian meets a Furry convention. It's silly.
Now, lion-shaped robots which combine to form one giant, sword-wielding robot? That's something I can wrap my head around. Realism, people.
