Godzilla: Save The Earth

I spotted this one at GameStop last night, & it turned out to be a huge hit back at Casa Cobretti.

Gozilla: Save The Earth is basically a fighting game. In the early levels, you can choose to be Godzilla 2000, Godzilla '90s version, Rodan, or a number of other monsters I didn't recognize. The arenas are places like Tokyo, Osaka, Seattle, & the like, & you can interact with the scenery in fun ways. There's a freeway between you and your Megaguirus? No problem: kick right through it! A cargo ship down at the docks? Pick it up and throw it at King Ghidora!

The commands were simple enough for my child to figure 'em out; & we had a great time working together in Team City Destruction Mode, where we each try to destroy as many buildings & helicopters as possible in the time allotted. The one downside: in vs. the computer mode, King Ghidorah is consistently the third character you have to battle. Well, King Ghidora is a good guy, so my son refuses to fight him, insisting that King Ghidora must defeat Godzilla.

Godzilla: Save The Earth is a winner. If you have kids, you might want to give it a look.

I have this as well. It's good fun. My three year and old I throw buildings at each other in it and he finds it hysterical

He's not always the good guy. Check out Godzilla vs. King Ghidora (it's on a double-sided DVD with Godzilla vs. Mothra). Spoiler text: Some white guys from the future use him to help trash tokyo. End Spoiler text. Needless to say, he's not always the good guy. He just was in GMK: Giant Monsters All Out Attack. Might change your kid's view of him. But heck, Godzilla isn't always the bad guy. Depends on the movie.

Interesting. Our next movie is Destroy All Monsters. Bring on the lightning-breath goodness!

Really getting a kick out of this whole Godzilla phase,

If you can find those double-DVDs for a good price, it's a great deal. There's no japanese language track, but I doubt you and your kid were watching them subtitled (kid's don't usually go for that sort of thing). Check out Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla/Godzilla vs. Destroyah, as Destroyah is an awesome kaiju. One other thing to note, you might want to point out to your kid, is the look of the big G throughout the films. When he's the bad guy, he looks more reptilian, with the slitted eyes and all. When he's the good guy, he looks more like a dog, with rounded eyes and softer features. It's something your kid will probably get a kick out of.

Thanks for the recommendations. I hadn't noticed the bit about the changing Godzilla features, & I'll be sure to point it out.

Do you see, now, that some of us love the big monster so much, that the american Godzilla was an abomination?

I understand the love, & my own spawn has turned on me, announcing that the American lizard looks like a T-Rex, not a Godzilla.

Nevertheless, I stand firm: AG is a big, silly monster movie. And that's ok. Not great, mind you; not even good, really; but ok.

Frank, since you and the little one are on a Godzilla kick, you should check out the newly released Son Of Godzilla (1967), new to DVD. It's a fun flick with a few scary monsters but a nice father/son theme....perfect for you guys.

I'd be curious to see what Frank Junior thinks of the old Baby Godzilla -- known as "Minya".
