Exorcist: The Beginning

Rented this last night and have to agree with the many people that disappointed. It was well shot and had some interesting scenes with solid acting but failed to capture what the Exorcist is all about. It wasn't frightening in the least and had almost no horrific scenes. The actual possesion in this is a joke and feels tacked on at the end. I'm still interested in seeing the version that got shelved.

As I said on the BloodyNews forum, EKM's review is so insanely positive it's hard to take it seriously as anything other than Paul Schrader fluff/Morgan Creek hatred.

Or maybe it's just a much better movie. Especially considering Paul Schrader is infinitely more talented than Renny Harlin.

I've no doubt it's probably a better movie. But EKM is known to be very... opinionated... and he hated Harlin's film quite a bit. And he liked Exorcist II more than Exorcist III, which always gives me pause.

Definitely a very lackluster sequel. I am looking forward to eventually seeing the Schrader version, and while I am expecting it to be better, I am not counting on it being a masterpiece.
