Ys Book I & II

Does anybody else here have any fond memories of this game? I know the audience for it was probably limited since it was for the TurboGrafx 16, and limited even moreso after that considering it was for the CD Rom add on, which was pretty expensive indeed at the time.

But oh, what a game it was. The soundtrack was amazing stuff, and I'd guess that it would still be amazing in one of today's games. Between the music and actually hearing characters talk to you it was quite an experience at the time. I was really hooked on this game back in the day and I've played through it multiple times. I don't know how some of the gameplay would be received today consideirng you don't really press a button to attack with your sword. You just kind of bump into the bad guys. When you were strong though it was great tp be able to plow through the opposition. You get projectile attacks at some point too. It's good stuff. The follow up game Ys III wasn't AS good, but it also had some kick ass tunes in the TG 16 cd version at least, and the game was also strangely addictive once you got used to the change in play mechanics.

I never played any of the gmaes after these, or the original Ys, which I believe made it's first appearance on the Sega Master System. Ys Book I & II is an updated and expanded version of that game.

Now there's new one for the PS2, Ys and the Ark of Napishtim (assuming I spelled it correctly). I'm definitely going to check it out someday.

Long live Adol!

though I never played Y's (have the Turbo but not the Duo), I'm a huge fan of old-school games particularily RPGs. Its too bad that most new RPGs dont have one ounce the charm of old classics like Phantasy Star or Secret of Mana.
