Hold on a second about Hudson Hawk

I have a sneaking feeling that this opinion will get stomped on, but HH was actually a decent movie, and a high percentage of the people who I ask to simply give it a chance have come back to say they enjoyed it.

Permit me to elaborate

The reason that the movie succeeded for me is the same reason I believe it failed: It was all over the place.

It was messy. A little bit of comedy, then whoa...Drama. OK now it's a drama...Time for a musical interlude to steal something - Hold on potential romance (Andie M. looking rather pleasing, for a nun. Oops I can't say that I'm Catholic, I guess I'm going to hell now) Wait it's time for some action, let's blow some things up!

I liked the fact that you never really knew what to expect next, and the first time I watched it I really enjoyed that. I think at the time of its release, that very aspect confused most critics who are so indoctrinated with pigeonholing each movie that this one stumped them.

Now I know that a some of this was due to the rather troubled production, but considering the scene transitions, and sound effects and I have to believe some of that anarchy was deliberate. A throwback to a type of movie not made as much today as they were in the past.

Director Lehman can't shoulder all of the blame for this movie, he did a yeoman's job considering he was a director for hire. (Just listen to his commentary on the DVD) Willis and Co. should have spent a little more time on the script before starting production, but how many other films have made that mistake?

Willis should get some credit for trying to do something different, and those that said that his character has a smirk on his face the entire movie I believed missed the point. This was only a goofy movie and he knew that - and I believe he figured the audience would get that too. ( Come on, candy Bar secret agents and a communicator hidden in a crucifix? ) If Joel Silver wanted to hand me a pile of money and tell me to go make my movie I'd have a smirk on my face too.

There are a number of movies that I thought would downright suck until I gave them a chance. This was one of them

If you've seen it, fair enough then just like any other movie you either liked it or not. I'm a die hard (no pun intended) Star Wars fan and thought Episode I blew chunks.
If you've never seen it, or only in bits and pieces, give it a try, you might be surprised.

That's my opinion...I could be wrong.

My flak jacket firmly attached, I await others comments.

I certainly wouldn't put that much thought into HUDSON HAWK but, yeah, I'm with the new guy.

I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a Hudson Hawk fan, but I'll admit to seeing it three times in my life, and never being appalled or even dissappointed. I thought it was a fun, goofy, easily dismissed flick. The museum hiest opening (with swing on a star) was fun.

MAD love for HH and Bruce.

The people who hated Hudson Hawk are probably the same people who hated Last Action Hero.

And those people... are a bunch of tasteless jerks!

I like Last Action Hero a lot. I like Willis, but I think Hudson Hawk is just unfunny and stupid.

Hudson Hawk is a great caper comedy movie. I suspect its scattershot attitude put people off who were expecting a catburglar film. I dunno, I can't focus, I just love the movie. It's off the wall zaniness eases the pain.

Long live little Eddie!
