Tarantino to direct the next Friday 13th?

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Quentin Tarantino is considering writing and directing a new installment in the long-running "Friday the 13th" horror film series.

Tarantino is in early talks with New Line Cinema, where he is scheduled to meet with executives this week.

The original "Friday," released in 1980 and featuring the hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees, spawned a series of sequels, including the 2003 hit "Freddy vs. Jason," in which Jason squared off against Freddy Krueger from the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series

New Line tried to make a sequel to "Freddy vs. Jason" involving the "Evil Dead" character Ash, but it couldn't reach a deal with "Dead" rights holder Sam Raimi.

According to those familiar with the discussions, Tarantino is intrigued with the idea of playing with one of the movie's classic horror villains. If the project does develop, it could be the first film Tarantino directs outside Miramax Films.

The filmmaker, whose credits include "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction," recently signed on to direct the season finale of CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."

If true the next Friday the 13th is gonna kick major ass!

Now see, FT, we differ there. I can't think of a single movie that Tarentino has done w/o Rodriquez that I've liked. IF that comes to pass, you can count me out of the next one. As much as I love the Jason character, it's time to leave him dead.

Kick ass it will be. There's no way it couldn't at least be better than Jason Goes To Hell and Jason X, based on the fact that (whatever you feelings might be about him) at least Tarantino can actually write a script and dialogue. Besides, a Tarantino F13 film will be bloody and gorey as hell, which is always a plus in a Jason film. How much do you want to bet that he'd bring back Kane Hodder too?

I think Tarantino is a freakin genious and love all his films and yes there definitely will be lots of blood and gore. Buckets and buckets of blood and of course lots of semen too. He's definitely a gore hound. Hopefully lots and lots of boobies to go along with all the blood and gore. It could easily have the highest kill count of any film in the series.

Jason should never die. They should have killed Freddie before they made the first film though.

Maybe he'll cast Samuel L. Jackson as Jason and Pam Grier as Mrs. Voorhees. Uma Thurman can be a camp counselor. Michael Madsen can be the creepy guy that tells everyone they're all doomed.

And you will know my name is Jason as I lay my machete upon you!

Actually, now that you bring it up, I've been wondering whether or not Tarantino would choose to cast celebrities in roles/cameos if he decides to take this project on. I guess it would depend on how seriously he would choose to take the film. While I'm pretty excited at the prospect of a Tarantino Jason romp, I'm still not going to hold my breath until it is actually made official that it is his next film. Let's face, the man is as bad (or worse) than Spielberg when it comes to announcing future projects.

Well, one thing you can say about QT is that he knows genre films, and he respects the conventions of the genre, so if he does cast any 70s stars or any of his favorite players it would probably be in bit parts. He would understand the need to make the primary cast of characters teenagers. So the question is, would he cast a bunch of unknowns, or a cast of hot young actors like Lindsay Lohan or something? And the answer might depend on the budget.

Well, whatever the case, there's no way this can be better than my friend's idea of a final FRIDAY film about Jason headed to Amish country and tackling the serious pedophilia issue there. Many, that would have been awesome.

Quentin, knock 'em dead. I very much look forward to this, IF it's true.

Until I see it released, I have to call bullshit on this. How many projects has QT linked himself to and how many have we actually gotten. Anyway, it'd be an interesting experiment.

Imagine the soundtrack.

I have to agree with you on everything.

The soundtrack would kick ass. As much as the picture would.

I would love to see Friday the 13th revived, even if it wasn't QT.

I can see it now... Tarantino casts Corey Feldman so that Tommy Jarvis can return. Corey Feldman is supplied with snappy dialogue and some cool dance moves. Corey Feldman's film career is REBORN!

I'm all for a Quentin Tarantino interpretation of Friday the 13th. I've been reading the forums at Friday the 13th: The Website and a lot of people are very concerned with this possibility. Some of them are even calling for the return of some of the original directors - like Joseph Zito - because they fear Tarantino won't make a proper film. They want something just like the others. A carbon copy, almost. The series has never been amazing, so what's wrong with letting a director with known talent and writing abilities take a stab [pun intended] at it?

It ain´t happening:

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/ind...plate=newsfull

"What’s happening with Friday The 13th? Nothing at all! It’s a complete lie. I like Jason and everything, but I’ve no intention of directing a movie! New Line talked to me about it, but it was a complete fabrication, that article. I would love to do a horror film. I’m just saying it’s not going to be Friday The 13th..."

Oh well it was fun to think about for a while.

There was a rumor floating around the 'net late last week that the Weinsteins were PISSED that Tarantino was in talks to make this film with New Line. The reason being that they are trying to get investors for Miramax (now that they have split from Disney), and one of their huge selling points was that they "owned" Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. Best guess? The Weinsteins brided Tarantino out of doing it somehow. Hence not only the "no I'm not doing it" but the complete retraction of the whole thing. Looks like a Miramax PR move to me. Anyway, it would have been fun.

So first Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash is shot down, now this. What's plan C? Someone going to try and reinvent Freddy now? If they can't come up with anything "spectacular", my guess is they'll end up cranking out Friday the 13th Part 12, Nightmare on Elm Street 9, and Freddy vs. Jason 2 in who knows what order.
