Frankly, I find that trailer underwhelming, and not very well put together. That footage shown last year was much more evocative.

The longer it takes before this is released, the less impressive it looks.

Do you follow in the musical footsteps of Stanley Burrell and Robert Van Winkle?

I am sorry but for a moment please let me squeal like a little girl....

That looks to be the most beautiful game ever.....and link can ride a boar.....and skeletons form in real time...and epona runs super fast...and I think I just had a heart attack.....

I am truly a sad individual as I now feel an overwhealming sense of joy.

I knew we'd be getting the uber-fanboy reactions, and that's fine and everything, but I still laughed out loud at this. Ratchet and Clank has graphics that equal what's in this Zelda trailer. Easily.

But who cares... LINK CAN RIDE A BOAR!
Not a good game trailer.
the trailer is only exciting because we know the game will be as badass as the previous ones.

Wow, dude. Way to bring us all down. We are all well aware of your disdain for anything Zelda.

Zelda is overrated.

Isn't that what you've said several time in this forum? I don't understand why you bother to post in a Zelda thread. We understand your feelings on this franchise. No need to reiterate time and time again. Really.

That being said, your jabs at J-Fab had me rolling.

By the way, the Nintendo home page has a better version:

ZELDA
Actually, I was very much in the 'Zelda is overrated' camp, until I played Wind Waker, which I thought, while still kinda childish and overrated, was very charming and imminently playable. I said as much in these forums. And I expressed as much delight as anyone last year when the new Zelda footage hit the net.

That said, this new stuff looks like any generic action/rpg to me. I'm still hoping to be wowed, but this trailer just leaves me cold.

I love the Zelda series. Sure the previous trailer had some seriously epic vid, but this trailer had some real creepy scenes that are more than welcome. Overall, everything i've seen so far looks to be great. I honestly can't wait to find out more. The only thing that tempers my excitement is all the weirdness coming from Nintendo recently about their future plans. Their hearts (and checkbooks) might not be in it to create another Ocarina of Time, which is something that I feel they must at least live up to if not surpass. They don't seem to be interested in competing with Sony or MS at the major level, and that means less epic adventure games, more Mario Paint. I think I don't 'get' the company anymore.
From my point of view, it's always seemed like the Zelda management team has been in some sort of vacuum, always turning out quality product nary a misstep despite what is happening in the larger Nintendo universe. Whatever this "Revolution" thing is, no matter what is happening with the DS or Gameboy, or Mario or Starfox, Zelda is cared for like a beloved child. I'm fearing nothing at this point.
Sorry to hog this thread, I have a few more observations.

Why this game is gonna own:

--Beautifully rendered water and fire

--Awesome sunlight effects

--Link the Boar-Rider

--Link the Cat-Abductor

--Link the Goron-Boxer

--Giant boomerang wielding, pillar-hopping, naked, red-assed Baboon

--Giant One-Eyed, Shelob-like Spider Thingy

--Sewers of the Undead

Oh, streaming media, how we hate you. Quicktime-d!

Rather okay. I don't think it's so earth-shattering that Link can ride a horse but, hey, I'm sure it's a game that will grab (mostly) everyone's attention when it's released and spawn countless "zElDa vs. FiNaL FaNtaSy" threads.

I really hope the story doesn't involve saving that worthless Princess again. Just tie her up and lock her in a castle and call it a day.

Um, you do know that the whole franchise is named after that "worthless" princess, right? It's a good bet you'll be doing something for her, since that's been the goal of every Zelda before.

I'm with Singer. Sure, the graphics are purty, but the problems with the last two games haven't been graphics-related in the slightest (Majora's Mask's frustrating time concept and dull storyline, Wind Waker's tedious sailing and total lack of challenges). This looks like pretty but pretty-standard fantasy gaming to me. Here's hoping there are some gameplay innovations to go along with all that skeleton-thumping and arrow-shooting.
I want to know why Link is stealing cats and fighting a baboon all of a sudden.
wow...i gotta say I am impressed. Not only are the graphics amazing, but the gameplay looks very varied and it looks like a real fun play.

I was about to sell my gamecube, but now I might wait...assuming this game comes out within the next two years.
Yeah, I'm so glad that Zelda's getting a more realistic, BADASS, DARK look. Why couldn't Nintendo've just listened to THE FANS before the Wind Waker came out and given us a REALISTIC tiny, plump lil' rock spitting octopus that we can bop on the head with our itty bitty cute lil' sword?

Fuck, man. Nintendo is retarded.

P.S. Nintendo, on the next Mario game you need to make Mario into a real, 6' 6" sweathog plumber whose ass crack shows whenever he picks up a fire flower. Otherwise I just can't enjoy the gameplay.
I, for one, think Windwaker kicks ass. It's the main reason I got a Gamecube (though not the only reason). The art is different, yeah, but it's gorgeous, nonetheless. The gameplay is as tight as they come, and it's damn fun to play. Yes, the sailing got boring/tedious, and always having to change the direction of the wind....yadda, yadda, yadda....no game is without it's own share of flaws. Windwaker was/is still a blast to play. I'm really looking forward to whatever the next installment has to offer.
Didn't Nintendo collaborate w Capcom for RE4? If that game is any indication of what to expect from Zelda, that would be very good indeed. Personally, I don't expect them to rewrite the gameplay completely. Wouldn't want it to drastically change anyways. I would like better immersion though, and any of the enhanced gameplay it needs with it. Overall, it does have a very adult look to it. Instead of chickens, its cats.

And the graphics are fucking great.
just to clarify, Capcom made an exclusivity deal with Nintendo on theire Resident Evil franchise (the stand alone games) to be Gamecube only...although the ps2 will be getting a most likely downgraded version of RE4 soon.

Link has always fought weird ass renditions of animals and monkeys seem to be overriding theme of evilness in the series (Links Awakening springs to mind)...the cats seem to be a gameplay mechanic of some sort...maybe he is rescuing them like some sort of elven fireman...?

I remain unapologetic about my love for this trailer as it showcased a lot of stuff that had me excited in particular a return to areas like the Well and Shadow Temple from OoT which in my view were the best parts of the game just for their creepy nature.

I honestly don’t know what the critics were expecting but I was blown away by the footage and can someone please point me in the direction of the generic action RPG this game is supposed to ape.

I would honestly like someone to tell me what there is to be snidey about as the Zelda series has always been about high adventure and this trailer so far has shown just that. Also with regards to graphics it is not really a case of who has the best, all I was saying that this game looked beautiful as it had quite a good engine but seemed to show off quite a fine level of art design.

It honestly seems to me that this thread is filled with people who have no interest in Zelda and just want to lash out the fans who get excited at the potential shown within the trailer.
So we get two trailers for big franchises on the same day. To me, a Zelda fan from the beginning, this is about 100 times as exciting as the new Star Wars. The first images with Link swimming in the water and the huge, sunlit tree are so beautiful. Coupled with fighting on the back of a horse, escaping Shelob's sister, getting kittens to join you, plowing through enemies on a boar and sparring with a Goron, this will be the big game of 2005 for me. And the music is fantastic.

Personally , I hated Wind Waker. Sure the graphics were great and everything (i like the cel shading effect just like in thirteen and soon to be killer 7) but u have to admit, that game was too cheesy.. can't stand that stupid elf Tinkle ......his stupid laugh made me want to throw my gamecube at the tv.

Now Ocarina ..... that was a great game. I could sit and play that game over and over again. There were kiddie thing in it but not as bad as Wind Waker....

ooooohhh i want to kill tinkle!!!!!!!!!!

Nintendo had nothing to do with the creation of Resident Evil 4, other than bulding the Gamecube itself, I mean. Capcom has taken over the reins for the GBA Zelda games (like The Minish Cap)--that's probably what you're thinking of.

I don't have an axe to grind with Zelda. I've been a fan since my carefree toddler days. I just think it's absolutely hilarious that Link just grabs a cat and hauls ass with it for no apparent reason. Especially when the other cats try and chase his elfin ass down.
I personally think the cats are the new version of the pigs and cuckoos (or whatever they are called) from the previous games. IE abusable animals with some purpose which gains you a life quarter.... seeing cats go beserk and attack link would be fun....

How did Link die???

"cats ate his face"

Speaking of RE4, I'm thinking with the expansiveness of the new Zelda that is implied by the trailer, it won't be any less than a two-disc release.

And berserk cats would be hilarious, and disturbing at the same time.

I knew we'd be getting the bitchy, naysaying fanboy reaction.

Anyway, now that I got my snide comment out of the way, I just have to say that I really, REALLY liked the footage in that trailer. I don't care what anybody says...I love the Zelda games (except for Windwaker), and this is the kind of stuff I wanted to see when the series came to the Gamecube.

When does this game come out again?

Yes, of course. Because in this entire thread, Jacob Singer is the one acting like a fanboy. Excellent point.

I never said that he was the only one acting like a fanboy. However, he did start off the naysaying, which is something that is rather common among the internet fan community. Therefore, I was simply making a play on his words for sarcastic effect. Sorry that it didn't sit well with your superior sensibilities. I shall now skulk back to the corner from whence I came.

You sicken me.
Jeez, a guy makes one sarcastic comment and suddenly its a big deal.

I just get a bit miffed when someone has to come along and piss in everybody else's cereal, and I decided to say something about it. I didn't know everyone was so touchy. Had I known, I would have kept my comment to myself.

I'm truly sorry that I've upset everyone so much. You're not a naysayer, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Can we all move on now, please?
And for those in the cheap seats, that was an actual apology. I'm not being sarcastic this time.
