"Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust" - thoughts?

I saw this movie at 9:30 pm and it was a packed room. Not a single kiddie in sight except for my 13 year old cousin who just loves anime.....

Anyway, I thought that it was a fantastic movie. Somewhat long, a very simplistic plot, but I can't help but feel that the film was "epic" in scope.

"D" is definitely one of the coolest characters I've seen in any type of film. He's very brooding and just freaking cool with that long sword of his. The human bounty hunters were also my favorite characters because they just kick ass.....

Though the story is very elementary, it does sustain your interest. The characters are just memorable and my favorite has got to be D's sidekick (if you haven't seen the first film, then you just got to witness who it is I'm talking about).

It's action, adventure, comedy, and a tragic love story. What else can you ask for in a movie? A definite must-see.....

I totally loved this movie, actually. Vampires going up to space because there it's eternal night? Way cool bit of vampire lore. I liked the first movie, but I thought this sequel was actually a really great follow-up. I was expecting the worst, actually, somebody cashing in on the name or something. But then it turned out to be great.

Yes, thanks for the notice. This is playing the Brattle in Cambridge and I wasn't sure if I wanted to see it or not. I recently re-watched VHD and it didn't do much for me the 5th time around. It's nice to hear this second movie is worth checking out.

VHD is a series of novels...both movies are adaptations of different novels in the series.

Bloodlust was headed up by the same gentleman who brought us Yoshi Toshi (Wicked City), which is one of my favourite pieces of anime. Ironically, the original VHD adaptation is my least favourite piece (I am aparently the only living human with that opinion), due to art and pacing/script. The new movie apparently has those in spades, so as soon as it shows up in Houston, I'm there.
