This is not a terrible movie at all. I kind of liked it.
Sorry, but no amount of good word from anyone will get me to see this.
2008 Saturday 10pm on TNT or FX i'm there.

I don't know that I would recommend the film per se, but it's surprisingly restrained, not completely retarded, actually bothers to try to explore racial issues, and Bernie Mac is fantastic. And Ashton.... does not suck.
Interesting... I turned down a preview screening of this, but I might change that.

These are indeed the End Times.

How much did they pay you? I knew you were a crooked bastard, but to sink to these levels...you make me sick.

So anyways, it looked like it had sort of a "Meet the Parents" vibe and I love Bernie Mac so I'll probably end up seeing it this weekend. I'm sure it's a better use of $9 than fucking "Be Cool".

Not very much like MEET THE PARENTS at all. Much more subdued, less wacky.
I might end up seeing this so I'm glad it has redeeming qualities. Bernie Mac's cool.

Dev, I seem to remember you liking "Dude Where's My Car?" as well. Admit it...you are wearing a Punk'd trucker cap right now, aren't you?

Actually in those terms when I think about Meet The Parents I like this film much more. Problem is Kutcher I guess. So he's more serious ala Butterfly Effect or is it more bumbling like Just Married?
I've been reading this site for a long, long time and I know that if Dev isn't ripping this film to shreds, than this movie is being marketed quite wrong. All I think of is go cart mischief and Sidney Poitier jumping into his grave before rolling over in it. I figured there would be some nice acceptable white boy jokes and not much else along the way of racial discussion. I might actually rent this now.

I for one DEMAND more stereotypical jokes against blacks. I wanna see Bernie Mac with his fucking ELBOWS deep in watermelon and fried chicken!

That will show those black devils for all of those "white people can't dance" jokes!

Why can't I use the "N" word? It's not fair! DOUBLE STANDARD!
Take into account that this is an adaptation of the original, not a direct remake.

I want to see more beach balls and sardines so that the Performing Seals of the world have something to enjoy! GO MICAH!
You do know the worst crime for someone in the entertainment industry is to be boring, right?
Saw it last night. I didn't think it was truly awful, but I never need to see it again. I thought it was a bit like Meet the Parents in that I was always feeling uncomfortable for Kutcher, much like I did for Stiller. Never found any of that funny. If they had explored the racial stuff a little deeper then "These black jokes are funny, but this one isn't.", I would probably have appreciated it more.
I can't see why anyone would see this, nor do I understand how, with hundreds of movies tackling a similar subject with more interesting performers, this would be appealing. I'll light my balls on fire before spending $10, or even $6, to see this.
If this was the greatest movie that could possibly be produced given the performers involved and the central concept, I would be unable to muster a great deal of enthusiasm for this movie.

Sidenote: is the term "white boy" considered a racial epithet?

Sidenote No. Two: What the heck is this "performing seal" stuff? Is this some random moniker like "child-frog"?

Yeah, those poor whites.

Oh Mr Kint, if I were wearing a hat it would be off to you. There's a little pee in my pants thanks to that post.

Missed C. Thomas Howell's Soul Man did you?

Oh, dear. If you really think black people aren't being mocked and demeaned every single day on television and in movies, then odds are you're either blind, ignorant or posting from an alternate dimension.

Also, if you think White Chicks was worse for "white chicks" than it was for the Wayans Bros. and black comedians, then we really have a problem.

Waffles should tune into UPN if he wants to laugh at the degradation of black people.
Black people have it so good.
I guess America has spoken. I didn't see this of course but I'll ask if they show Kutcher's parents at any point? If not I predict a sequel titled "Guess Who Now?" This time Mac will meet Kutcher's adoptive Hispanic parents played by George Lopez and Charro.

Ever heard of a movie called SOUL MAN. It's a 1986 "comedy" starring C. Thomas Howell as a white guy who goes undercover as a black guy to get a college scholarship. A premise not exactly a million miles apart from WHITE CHICKS.

White people have already made their version of WHITE CHICKS. And funnily enough, the world didn't end then either.

Y'all need to relax. Jive turkey (God, why am I speaking like Luke Cage now. It's this thread, I tell ya.).

Wrong. I saw this gilm last night and the comedy isn't based on gimmicks, it's based on the awkward dynamic of the family and of the relationships within the film.

I really liked this. It wasn't too over the top and there was a lot of subtle moments in the film that were really heartfelt. I did think that Ashton's character warmed up to Bernie's a little too quickly though. Seemed that he was cracking jokes to him a little early.

Last time I checked there were other minorities than black people. But you don't hear them making as much of a stink.
