I've seen the 1st movie and thought it was OK, not great. Haven't seen any other Amityville movies. I'm looking for some feedback on the other movies and whether or not the set is worth picking up. Thanks, guys.

A grand and epic look at few outsiders surviving the self-destruction of a corrupt and unstable culture. This film is worth studying.

This film boasts an incredible story and a very impressive soundtrack. Trainspotting includes graphic scenes of drug use, sex and death. One of the finest films to come from Scotland, this movie...

AMITYVILLE II is okay. It's a pretty cheap and nasty movie, but it gets the job done. AMITYVILLE 3 I haven't seen, but I know the box doesn't have it in 3-D like the UK edition does. In any case, I have it preordered, so hopefully it should be on its way soon enough.

Unless you are alover of bad horror movies, this is not a good buy.
The first Amity is serviceable, but doesn't really hold up.
Part II is slightly better, but kinda lame. It's a prequel yet it takes place four years after part 1. The incest angle is kinda creepy for me and makes it on the verge of sleazy.
Part 3 is laughable. Filmed during the 3D craze of the day, the effect didn't make for a better movie. Basically a repeat of the first movie minus the big family. Aside from the chick from "Full House" getting killed by one of the Sleestaks from "Land of the Lost" and Meg Ryan's small part, its a piece of shit.
I would say stick with the first and forget the rest. The first 3 are barely tolerable, but after that it gets ridiculously horribe. Worse than the Leprechaun flicks.
I'm looking forward to the Amityville remake even though the story its based on is total bullshit.

I don't know why, but I'm TOTALLY excited about picking this up next week.
Don't ask me why, since none of the films is that good. Infact, if the forthcoming remake isn't significantly scarier than the original, I'll be VERY disappointed!
I read Jay Anson's book way back in '77 or '78 when I was 15 or 16 & I'm not ashamed to say that it chilled me to the bone! It creeped me out enough to cost me a couple of nights of sleep, that's for sure. So, when the announcement came that they were making the movie, I was THRILLED!
I figured that since the book scared the piss out of me the movie would too.
Well, after a year or two of anticipation, in the summer of '79 I was there at my local mall multiplex ( well, actually, back then it wasn't so "multi" as it only had two screens! ) on opening night. Unfortunately, instead of rapant chills running up & down my spine, I wound up with just one big shrug of my shoulders, asking "that's it ?!!"
After the initial disappointment in the film, I did wind up watching it on cable TV the following year when it arrived on HBO & I found that it wasn't all THAT bad. I liked it enough to watch it a few more times anyhow.
And enough to run out to see it's sequel as soon as it came out in '82.
Which, as was mentioned in this thread earlier, was DEFINITELY sleazier than it's predecessor. By a LONG shot! But, it was also scarier as well.
As for AMITYVILLE 3-D, I honestly can not recall if I ever saw it or not. My mind's a blank when it comes to this one.
All I do know, is that I'm looking forward seeing that boxed set sitting in my DVD case alongside my other ones.
