I am very interested in seeing this version. It's actually getting some pretty good reviews unlike Harlin's version which got panned and I agree that is "sucked".
From Dread Central.........
Want to know why it’s such a terrible idea to have one guy at a movie studio calling all the shots as to what is released and what is not? Just tune in to "Project Greenlight" every Monday night for one example, but a higher profile reason is the Exorcist prequel debacle.
Finally, it seems that debacle is coming to an end. After Schrader’s version (review) debuted to nothing but mid-to-high praises, Morgan Creek has decided they will actually release the film, theatrically, within the next two months.
The version one person at Morgan Creek, James Robinson, said was not good enough and had to be re-shot by Renny Harlin. "I never want to have to go through anything like this again," said James’ son, Warner Bros' David Robinson.
How does Schrader feel? Well, the man who wrote Taxi Driver and Raging Bull has every reason to be shouting, "Told ya so!" But instead he’s being quite philosophical about it. "I think it was a case of buyer's remorse...I made the script I was given. But then they saw it and got nervous; it wasn't right. It was very upsetting."
He credits both Warner Bros' decision to make some more cash off a potential DVD release and, best of all, "Internet-based fan clubs. They never let it die." Damn straight! Oh, and the film will be released with a new, official title: Paul Schrader's Exorcist: The Beginnging. Let the confusion begin!
