Nine, that '50s USUAL SUSPECTS cast was a sexy beast. Nicely played.
Here's the 2005 version of SPARTACUS, directed by Peter Weir:
Spartacus (Kirk Douglas): MATTHEW MacFADYEN

Crassus (Laurence Olivier): JASON ISAACS

Varinia (Jean Simmons): CLAIRE DANES

Gracchus (Charles Laughton): ALEC BALDWIN

Batiatus (Peter Ustinov): PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN

Julius Caesar (John Gavin): PAUL BETTANY

Draba (Woody Strode): EVAN PARKE

Antoninus (Tony Curtis): ADRIAN GRENIER

Casting notes: I really dug the presence and quiet strength MacFadyen brought to his Mr Darcy portrayal in PRIDE & PREJUDICE, and that won him the title role from the likes of Hugh Jackman and Gerard Butler. Kevin Spacey was in the running for the Crassus role. Baldwin and Hoffman strike me as two American actors who'd really fit in an historical piece like this one. Bettany as Caesar was a toss-up - I was very close to going with Ralph Fiennes.
Coming soon: EXCALIBUR and THE WAGES OF FEAR.
