So where will you be on May 19?

Where will you be on May 19?

Do you plan to catch a midnight screening of ROTS or wait until morning?

I'll probably catch it first screening of the morning & maybe again later when the kids get out of school. This will be my first SW opening in the US, I caught AOTC at the Odeon in Cheltenham, England. Probably be in Grapevine, Texas this time.

Let's hear your choices, even the SW haters, but please try & put some humour into it. Let's keep it fun.
As a friend once said when asked if he'd be watching an important World Cup soccer game a few years ago " No, I'll be too busy sticking pins in my eyes"

That kind of thing.

I'll be at the movie theater at midnight because I am a complete and total sucker. I'm already letting myself get hyped and I deserve a hard slapping. Seriously, somebody PLEASE keep me from getting my hopes up! I somehow sat through Episode II three or four times and had myself convinced it was up there with the OT before I realized I was being a delusional retard. I don't want it to happen again.

I will be there with some friends at the midnight showing. In the first week I plan on seeing it twice (unless it is awful)
I'll see it, but I'll be angry about seeing it. So that opening sequence had better be pretty freaking good. I'm talking 'Blade' good.
Just wanted to add that as the date gets closer I am getting excited excited excited.

I posted earlier in another thread that I need to stop getting my hopes up for movies. This one will be an exception to my new rule.

The 19th, I will most likely be sleeping all day, due to the big plans a few of us have for the day before.

Currently, the plan for a few of us is to line up for around 14-16 hours on the 18th. We'll get at the theater between 8-10 in the morning (No fucking way am I camping out for a movie), and basically just have as much of a party as possible.

In a theater parking lot.

But yeah, it's shaping up pretty well... we've got about 15 people so far, and it'll get bigger once we get closer to the premiere.

We had an absolute blast in 2002... loud music, TV cameras, psycho jedi nerds jumping Dodge Vipers, caffiene overdoses, ignited beanbags... man. Awesome day. If it ends up even close to the day of the AotC premiere we had, then I will be one happy camper. Just the lineup alone may make the 9-year wait worth it.

Well, if it has a baby Ackbar played by a red snapper, all is forgiven.

My brain told me not to post that, but I ignored.

Midnight. I'm kinda hoping we're not able to buy tickets online for this cause I liked the whole lining up deal. Makes the whole day like a big Star Wars event.
I'm actually pretty excited for Episode 3, even though I'm not expecting much. The reason I'm going to be there at midnight is because it'll be a good chance to hang out with some of my high school friends for a while. It's kind of a tradition for us, we saw the last two as soon as we could, we just figure this one should be no different. Also, I've always loved midnight screenings. I'd probably rather see a movie at midnight than any other hour of the day and the best time to see the movie at midnight is opening day.
Midnight showing in Columbus Ohio and I can't fucking wait. I'm using my vacation days for the week of the 19th so I'll most likely see it a few times the first week.
I'm going to be away from home, in Miami, doing business at a conference and setting up the booth starting Wednesday.

Yup.

This is going to take the whole weekend too, so I most likely won't be able to see the movie.

For some reason, I can't ever go on opening night. For TPM, I had the tickets and everything and got appendicities, this year I have to go to a freaking conference. I'm so upset ... I told my "business" associates about the movie, and that it was going to be a problem, they just laughed it off.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG GGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I've learned that watching a movie 9 times in a theater doesn't make it better.

Yes I will be going to the midnight showing.

~sigh~
Snake Eyes, sounds like you had the same type of Ep II experience I did. I understand.
As I said to my buddy a couple days ago:

"I refuse to see Episode III. On opening weekend. Unless someone talks me into it."

"Wanna go to the midnight showing?"

"Yeah, alright."
I'll Midnight Showing and/or matiness on Opening Day, depends on if my firneds can see it at Midnight.

I'll be in NYC on vacation. Maybe I'll catch a matinee. After the smacks to the dick that Episodes I & II were, I'd rather pay less money to see this one.

I'm tempted to go for a midnight screening but I have 3 problems.

1. No matter how good the movie is, if I get comfy I'm gonna be sleeping.

2. I like a beer at night. This adds to the problem mentioned above.

3. My stepsons will want to go too & it's a schoolday the next day. This means I can take them after school & see it again.

I'm just glad the release date isn't the 25th as was quoted early on. That's my wife's birthday & she would not have been impressed if I'd suggested a trip to the movies. Normally she loves to go but NOT for Star Wars !

By the way guys, this is the first time I've started a thread that's had a decent response. Thanks to all. I still want to hear more alternative viewpoints as well, although Litmus did a nice job there. Impressive, most impressive.

Some people would pay a lot MORE for that stuff !

I've requested the day off, so the plan is for the midnight show and then possibly another show during the day (unless I feel comepletely and utterly violated). The only question is convenience versus quality -- do I hit the Universal Cineplex (which is closer and had a great turnout for AOTC) or Pleasure Island (which will be showing the digital version but which requires D-Day-like planning to get to and park at).
I will probably catch a midnight showing with my dad. He saw the movies when he was young and when I was a little kid it was one of the first things we really clicked on. It's become sort of a tradition to go see midnight showings of these movies together and then debate for a week afterward about the plots and shit.
Got my tickets for the midnight show yesterday.

This is probably the most rational and intelligent Star Wars-related post that I have ever read. Well done, sir.
I'll be sitting on my ass watching this movie, just like all of you will be doing, yes, even the "haters" Why? because deep down we want this to be a good film.
May 19th - Mann Village in Westwood CA. 7:00 show.

Seen all 5 there. After Ep. III, the circle will be complete.
I'll likely be passing through Zod country on my way to Missouri to screen this opening night.

But Chili, I am at that Grapevine theater nearly every Friday. I'll probably be there when you will sooner or later.
No way I'm going to the midnight showing. I've got my reputation to think about.
I'll be at home, probably asleep.
Does anyone knoe when advance tix go on sale in the States?
I think I'll pop in Episode I, but I'm only going to watch certain parts. Like the part when Jar Jar steps in poop. Or the part where that alien creature farts in Jar Jar's face. Or any part that features Jar Jar, really, which is most of the movie.

Then I'm going to read a long article about how people waited in line for weeks to see Episode III. And I'll laugh and laugh.
I'm going to be at work, but I may get a chance to see it with some co-workers who may take a long lunch to go check it out, otherwise I'm going to just end up waiting until the weekend and go see it with some firneds and family. I saw the last two 3 times each so the same will probably come to pass for this one...

While I'm at work I'll probably be listening to the soundtrack and checking in on here to see what people think.

It would be cool to be able to see this with a bunch of chewers though. I'm not a fanatic but I'd love to see it with people I could actually TALK to about all this stuff. Oh well.
I saw a screening of Kung fu Hustle with some friends earlier this week and the 2 people next to me were having a pretty deep Star Wars conversation. I kind of tuned everybody I was with out and listened to them for a bit. I wanted to chime in and join them, but I didn't... I'm a lonely nerd.

Ha!
I'm taking that day off of work, and will see it twice (back to back matinee's or something). No midnight showing for me...too old for that anymore.
I'll be going late evening of May 19th!
love the spaced pics!
At work. When you get a real, full time job it's amazing how that impacts your schedule. I will probably see it Friday the 20th since I don't like going to movies on week nights.
I was planning to see it in the evening of the opening day here in the lovely city of Hamilton, New Zealand, as thats how I saw the others. But I've met a girl who went to a midnight screening of AOTC so I may be tripping along with her. The only thing that would make me go to a midnight screening would be a girl, afterall..

Regardless of how we all feel about these films, I hope you all enjoy yourselves - if that means throwing popcorn at the screen and laughing at Hayden's acting then have fun with that!

May the Force be with us...
I'll be going with some friends of mine to a midnight showing. And as much as I'm expecting this movie to be about as crap-ridden as the last two, I'm still going to be sitting back and watching it just like the rest of you suckers. Yet somehow, I can't stop myself from getting excited.
I plan on asking for the 19th off. I'll definitely be at the theater, all decked out in Jedi threads. I can't wait to see all the generations of fans come together for the event. Fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, perhaps a few Grandfather-father-son combinations will be in attendance. I can only imagine all of the great discussions that will take place about this epic saga once the film ends.

Then I'll head to the brothel for some whoring.

Will they give you a Star Wars special discount because of the costume? And will you be getting a girl in a ROTJ space-bikini?

But which Grapevine theater? I normally head to Tinseltown 'cos it's the closest to me. Only been to the AMC at Grapevine Mills once, for T3.

I really don't go as often as I should & I think Hitchhikers Guide will be my next trip.

I was just thinking about what Moltisanti said about the different combinations of family that'll go to see ROTS. Today is the 15th anniversary of my dad passing on, he would have been keen to go see this one, he loved Star Wars. Some good memories there.

My bad jokes aside I'm glad you have some good memories of your Dad and "Star Wars." My Dad and I get along good and have some common bonds but I don't think he's ever seen a "Star Wars" movie, I think the lack of characters driving muscle cars is a turn off for him.
I'll try to get tickets to see it at the wonderful Arclight Cinemas, it's my favorite place to see movies, sure is kinda expensive, but they don't allow kids and/or people getting inside after the feature started, and best of all there is not "FUCKING L.A.TIMES" or "THE TWENTY" adds bullshit.... gosh I hate that shit, only trailers and good ones might I add.
I'll be in San Francisco May 8-17, where I will see it on the 11th.

On May 19, I'll be in L.A. so I will definitely catch the film at some local theater there for the public opening, perhaps the Arclight. Not sure yet.

Now you're just showing off Carl, and making me very jealous! That sounds darn good to me.

Seconded, Taxihunter!

I saw the other 2 Prequels there as well. Mann's Village Westwood has the best audiences the first few days.

I'll be coming from E3 in downtown LA that day, so I'll have to go to a later show (probably midnight).

I'll now be stowing away in Carl Cunningham's suitcase.

I think now would be a good time to start a mass stalking of Carl. After all I doubt I'd fit in a case !
