Graumann's Chinese Star Wars Line

We all probably know by now that Graumann's Chinese won't be premiering or showing Revenge of the Sith. Why in the hell are those guys n' gals still waiting outside the theater? I drive by the Chinese daily and I guess I don't understand why they continue to sit there. On May 19th will they all go see the film at the Arclight?

if i had to guess i would say they are still there so they don't make fools out of themselves (moreso than they already have). I think they want to save face and stay with their convictions, even if that means sitting in front of the wrong theater. They could concede and go to the right theater, but that would take away the essense of what they are doing: being stupid for their one true love.

Doesn't make sense

I still don't get it? Be true to what? What are they doing exactly? It just seems marginally idiotic to me is all. I suppose one could ask me "why do you care so much Prater?" and I would proceed to answer "I dunno." But, well, it's nutty to be waiting outside the wrong theater unwilling to move on because you might looks stupid. The dumber thing is staying there. There won't be a payoff, no gold at the end of the rainbow, they'll still be at the wrong theater.

One of the main reasons they are doing this is for charity. All proceeds go to the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation

They can still lineup at the Arclight for Charity, that is a ridiculous reason for standing in line at the wrong theater. Any way one looks at it, it's RIDICULOUS!

So is standing in line at the RIGHT theatre a month and a half in advance.

Trying to Understand

I don't understand it either. I waited in line for 3 hours for AOTC and gosh, that was. Sure, I was in line with other star wars fans and it was great and fun but a month of that, knowing that tomorrow won't bring the film and neither will the day after that.

I've heard the excuse is "the comraderie" and tradition, and I don't want to steal their joy but again, I just don't get it. Obviously I don't have to get it. I guess as a human being with so little time on earth, to waste it doing something that is so trivial seems to be a poor reflection, not just on star wars fans as a whole but Americans. We get shit enough from the Europeans and elsewhere for our ways that, well, yeah, I'm blabbering.

I grew up very poor and I grew up very happy but taught that time is precious so to see these people who basically pretend to be homeless for 1.5 months comes across as offensive. But oh well, the ROTS line guys don't have to live their lives so that J.M. Prater understands them. I'd like to though.

I can understand doing it for as a stunt for charity, but at the wrong theater?????
Give me a break.
No wonder people think that fans are a bunch of idiots.
Fans constantly decry the "unfair Image" they have, then behave in ways that guarantee that the image will stick.

I don't really understand the appeal of dressing up as Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, Stormtroopers, etc. to go see these movies, nor do i get the appeal of buying every last piece of Star Wars merchandise, or the appeal of attending a Star Wars convention like Celebration III. Still, people seem to enjoy doing all of the above things. Live and let live, I say.

As a European, I like this kind of thing. I wish many English people I know did it more instead of being fucking miserable.

I don't really understand how they're pretending to be homeless. That's a crazy angle to take. They're not pretending to be anything but Jedi and the like. It's basically a big camp-out for charity, in a SW theme.

Also, IIRC, in 99 and 02, Mann's said they weren't showing TPM and AOTC before they actually did.

It's still more fun than wasting time in front of the tube every January to watch the superbowl or waste time in the fall on the world series.

At least this is for charity.

The dumber thing would be to give a shit what passer-bys or anyone else thinks.

It could be both. We don't know for sure that the jedi have rooms or even bunks at the temple. If Episode 2 is any indication they just spend all day like the Earth homeless, riding on buses, hanging around in diners, bugging librarians and figting imaginary aliens.

This would also explain why no one seems to miss Anakin when he sleeps over at Padme's.

Why do you assume people that aren't obsessed with Star Wars are necessarily obsessed with sports and crap? Most people have a series of general interests that they can enjoy in a healthy, well rounded-manner.

When you get out into the Real World, you are going to find out that what people think is going to have a very big impact on such basic things as getting a job,, etc. It's a simple fact of life.
Try showing up for a job interview dressed as Luke Skywalker and see what happens.
It's called reality and you have to face it sooner or later.
And I 100% agree with what Darly Zero said about how most people have interest in a number of things rather then be totally obssesed by one thing.
I can understand this kind of obsession when you are in Junior High School, but by the time you Hit 21 you should have broadned your interests a little.
BTW I admit I watch quite a bit of sports on TV.
So fucking sue me.

Anyone is a sheep if they cave to what others think of them. These kids obviously do not, so more power to them.

WHy would anyone dress up as Luke Skywalker for a job interview?

I think the why is simple: The Grauman's has held all SW premieres up to this point, and arrangements were made for these people to line up in front of that theater prior to knowing the venue change. Since their event is done partly for charity, and arrangements to move might not be feasible.... There you go.
