Actors that piss you right off

Thread Starter
The "Movies That Make You Angry" thread seemed to find an audience, so here's a thread along the same lines:

What actor or actress irritates the hell out of you? The subject came up during work the other day, when a friend mentioned that he cannot, under any circumstances, tolerate Catherine Zeta-Jones. Personally, I don't like her cell phone commercials, or her turn in Ocean's 12, but there's no denying that she's one fine piece of ass (Michael Douglas' old wrinkly balls notwithstanding).

These would be thespians who make you squirm in your seat whenever they're on the screen. Actors who make good movies bad, and bad movies even worse. Maybe it's an actor who continues to earn major roles and critical acclaim, but you can't understand why. Maybe it's an actor the whole world dislikes, and you're jumping on the hate-fueled bandwagon with a belly full of hate-o-rade.

Anyway, I've got two that spring to mind.

Renee Zellweger - I just don't get it. America seems to stumbled into a love affair just because she got fat and played a wallflower. I think she's squinty-eyed and bland. She's not a particularly good actor, unless she's trying to be obnoxious and overrated. In that case, she deserves an Academy Award.

Sarah Jessica Parker - Sex and the City forever turned me against her, but those godforsaken Gap commercials sealed the deal. Plus, she looks like a horse-faced transvestite.

renee is one. julia roberts i absolutely cannot stand.

the overall prize for me goes to orlando bloom, i think. yes, there are much worse actors, but never before or since bloom have i seen someone who comes so close to single-handedly ruining good/great movies.
Sean Penn irritates the hell out of me. And ditto for Renee Zellweger.
Brittany Murphy ties for first with Ashton Kutcher.

Coming in second place is Julia Roberts.

Ah, sweet vindication on the Zellweger thing. I though I was the only one.

Orlando Bloom was fine in The Lord of the Rings, but I guess that's just because he was only required to do cool CGI stunts. The only other thing I saw him in was Black Hawk Down, but he didn't bother me then either, because all he did was fall out of a helicopter and fuck himself up. I guess I need some examples.

Juliette Lewis. According to IMDB she is recognized as one of Hollywood's most talented and versatile actors of her generation. While I've not seen everything she's been in, she always seems to come across as a semi-literate trailer park resident to me.
Nicole Kidman
Renee Zellweger
Queen Latifah
Jimmy Fallon
Sarah Jessica Parker
Sean Penn
Nick Nolte
Steve Martin
Pauley Shore
Martin Short
Sharon Stone
Juliette Lewis
Chuck Norris
Chris Kattan
Michelle Rodriguez
Anthony Anderson
Dakota Fanning
Rob Schneider
Kate Bosworth
Lorenzo Lamas
Halle Berry
James Marsden
Helena Bonham Carter

That's enough for now I think.
Kirsten Dunst irritates the crap out of me - although I have been able to get past that in a handful of movies she's been in.

I also can't stand Ashton Kutcher - but so far have avoided ever seeing a movie he's been in
post #9 of 109
I don't know if he pisses me off, but I know I'm in the minority for not enjoying Jack Black. No actor has benefited more from the death of Chris Farley than this guy. I did like his dog kick in ANCHORMAN.

Oh yeah, I'll also throw in the whore sister of Eric Roberts.

I don't like Juliette Lewis either, and "semi-literate trailer park resident" sums it up better than I ever could. I also don't buy into the whole Mena Suvari thing either, as their heads make them both look kind of like fetuses.

My girlfriend can not stand Kirsten Dunst, but she doesn't bother me all that much. Sean Penn can go to hell, though. Affleck, too.

Can't agree with the Jack Black thing, as I'm a big fan of the D, but Robin Williams kills any movie he's in. Ironically, the only time I can stand him is when he's playing his new "serious" roles. The batshit antics he's known for make me leave the room. I caught the beginning of Mrs. Doubtfire the other day and almost heaved the TV out the window.
Paris Hilton. 'Nuff said.
Richard Gere pisses me off to no end. Something extremely fake about him, and he seems do the "Richard Gere as.." routine.

Also, If I see Jude Law in another movie, I'll hang him. Jude, take a break and try to do less films than you do women.

*Edit* Forgot to mention Michael Madsen. His only watchable movies are the ones he did with QT, otherwise I can't stand him. He was horrid in Sin City
post #13 of 109
Keanu Reeves. Is that too cliched?
Kevin Costner. Although it's nice to see that after a solid decade of flops, Hollywood has stopped handing him money to make boring films.
In order:

1. Tom Hanks (definetly number one)
2. Richard Gere
3. Meg Ryan
4. Ashley Judd
5. Renee Zellwegger
6. Mel Gibson (after Lethal Weapon 3 he got more and more annoying)
7. Nicole Kidman

Tom Cruise when playing drunk, or doing his fake laugh (even in interviews).

Nicholas Cage is strange, too. In some movies he´s great, in others he´s unbearable.

I probably forgot someone, but those are the most annoying to me.

EDIT: Julia Roberts. Oh yeah. She would be number three, after Gere.
I have never liked Halle Berry. I cannot explain why, but everytime I see her on TV I get this urge to bitchslap her.

Jim Carrey Too. He Annoys The Hell Out Of Me.

I can't stand Richard Gere either...there is something about him that just bugs me..he has this whole 'smug' aura about him. Like he would look at you like you were something he stepped in if you ever met him. And ever since I heard the Hamster story (which I hope is fake) I've never looked at him the same way.

Julia Roberts is terrible...she does the same role over and over. God is she ever over-rated...Meg Ryan is annoying in everything. Penelope Cruz may be a nice person but her voice irritates me and takes me out of a movie she's in.

I was with you until the Madsen hate. Watch DONNIE BRASCO, he matches Pacino and Depp every step of the way.
I'm gonna agree with the Tom Cruise haters. Even if he's playing different roles, he's still playing them the same way - the same looks, same mannerisms - yes, even in Collateral. It especially pisses me off because he's in so many good movies. It doesn't ruin the movies for me, but I'm never able to accept the character as anyone other than "Tom Cruise playing...". Much like Freedom's hate for Richard Gere, I suppose.

I've never really understood the Julia Roberts thing, at least not to the extent of the paychecks she pulls in. She may be somewhat talented (although she never takes challenging roles), but she's not even that good looking, and even if she was, no one is worth that kind of money.

As for Meg Ryan, I don't really have an opinion of her acting one way or another, but I've wanted to fuck her since I was 12.
Antonio Banderas. He's the Pepe LePew of cinema. "I am sexy, no?"
Gotta agree with the Tom Cruise hate. I mean, how much cooler would The Last Samurai have been, if he wasn't in it?
Joe Pantoliano and William H. Macy. Especially Macy. Especially Macy in 'Fargo'. I just wanna give the guy a smack.
Robin Williams (both over the top robin williams and I WILL MAKE YOU CRY robin williams. the other ones are okay), Chris Tucker (worst part of one of my favorite movies, The Fifth Element)

I'm sure there are more, but those two rise to the top.
So true about Chris Tucker. I was on the fence about THE FIFTH ELEMENT until he showed up, then I burned the fence down. He is the reason Robert Townsend needs to make another HOLLYWOOD SHUFFLE.
Thank god I'm not the only one who doesn't like Tom Cruise.

Vin Diesel, Steven Seagal (or however you spell his name), Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan and.... oh god... Hugh Grant. I absolutely loathe him like no other 'actor' (aside from Cruise, of course).
Good thread idea, but it seemed more liKe stars that piss you right off, not actors.

i am suprised that no one mentioned Jimmy Falon. Taxi was the biggest pile of ass shit ive seen in years, mainly because of his acting(or lack thereof)

Richard Driefis ( whatever how is last name is spelled.)

Drew Barrymore!

For the love of God, why has no one mentioned Drew Barrymore?!? I absolutely loathe her. She's not attractive, she always acts as if she's winking at the camera, and she SABOTAGES any movie she touches. I have to bring up the old argument that she almost ruined Donnie Darko with her little amount of screentime. Almost, but not quite.

Of course, Jimmy Fallon is some kind of evil as well. Is anyone else as upset as I am about the Farrely brothers current career trajectory? Their movies have been getting more sappy and sentimental (i.e., not funny) since Shallow Hal. Then they cast Barrymore and Fallon? Fuck. You couldn't pay me in blowjobs to watch that shit.

So, to reiterate: Drew Barrymore is slightly worse than slow death, and Jimmy Fallon is deserving of hate as well. Feel free to agree.

Agree!

...

Uhm...dunno, too many. I can mention some.... George Clooney (his "i am so hot, and i will never get married" thing is just...annoying. )....

I don't know, way too many overrated people to mention i guess..
I agree with pretty much most of the choices here, like Julia Roberts, Halle Berry, and Ben Affleck, but by far the most annoying and putrid actor I know of is Joey Lauren Adams. Seriously, she squeeks and squints just like Zellweger, but whines like a five year old and picks crappier roles. I haven't seen her in a movie since her cameo at the end of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, however, so I take some comfort in knowing that her career didn't take off like Zellweger's.
Jason Schwartzman. I know everyone in the world loves this guy and he gets roles in some damn good films but he is a log of an actor. His brand of deadpan could be done by anybody. It is nepotism (Coppola relative) that got him into this biz and that makes perfect sense. He has zero charisma or anything else to make him interesting to someone casting a movie. He's just a bad on interviews but I could give a shit about that I'm more put off by his piss poor acting. I know...I know...flame away.
The Arquettes, all of them. They are the anti-Walken in that they make every movie they're in that much worse.
no one that is capable of creating a max fischer can be called a bad actor, i dont care if everything else he does is crap.

same with tom cruise, because of magnolia i cant say hes a bad actor. well he's not a bad actor, but people hate on him anyways.

I would say that Wes Anderson and Paul Thomas Anderson respectively had more to do with creating those roles than the "actors" entrusted with the role. But hey its all for discussion man.

Her screaming/crying fit in the parking lot during Chasing Amy takes a sweet, funny, great film and spikes it directly in the balls with something heavy and sharp.

Seriously, her acting in that scene is probably the worst unintentionally terrible performance I've ever seen.

Nails on a chalkboard.

Agreed, add "Who the fuck is Jude Law? to that..."

Keanu Reeves, I couldn't stop laughing when i saw a Constatine t.v. interview with him and the voice over said "Keanu does what he does best for this movie by showing off many of his great acting abilities..."

That may have been an in-joke with the writers...

Lindsay Lohan...nice breats...that's all

Dakota Fanning....She acts like a bad child actor

Jennifer Garner has a nice body, but her muscular face makes her look like a Klingon.

Oh, and I also have never been able to stand Melanie Griffith. She comes across as either mentally challenged, or just the dumbest person on earth. Antonio Banderas must slap his forehead in frustration a lot.

Oh, here's one - Lily fucking Taylor. Grating, mousy and overrated. She deserved every minute of The Haunting.

Jesus what a vicious thread. I love it.
I completely agree most of the selections except Joe Pantoliano and William H Macy. I think they're both very talented and do not soak up the limelight as much as some others do. Plus I met Pantoliano once and he was very approachable and friendly so I guess I'm biased.

Anyhow, I'd like to add Stephen Baldwin to the list if no one else has. What is he now? A born again Christian promotion some god-fearing skateboarders who preach the word of god? Give me a fucking break. And Madonna.

Oh, and whoever mentioned Paris Hilton. Good call. The only reason she's famous is becuase she's a rich slut. Does not contribute anything in regards to entertainment or society in general.

I meant to add Stephen Baldwin and then I forgot. Has anyone watched the interviews on The Usual Suspects special edition? What an overstuffed pompous asshole. He talks shit about everyone, and then acts like he's on Inside the Actors' Studio, talking about his methods and experience. And yes, this is the same guy that was in Bio-Dome.

I agree. I actually enjoyed 13 Going on 30 (girlfriend wanted to see it and I ended up liking it goddamit) and I catch Alias once and a while and she can play the heavy just fine. She is, of course hot, but I also like her attitude in general about show business. She isn't pompous and has respect for her roots in West Virginia.

Nick Cage - A dramatic scene can be acted for drama not just for shouting, you fuck. I seriously want to kick him in the balls everytime he starts his shouting and hand waving for dramtic effect bullshit.

Paris Hilton- Even though she hasn't done much. It just pisses me off that she gets the fucking gig. You could pick any stripper in the universe to play her part, it would probably come out better, wouldn't cost as much and you wouldn't have to deal with her superstar/rich bitch bullshit.

Renee Zelwhatever- Looks like a chipmunk that squints because they're afraid of getting man milk in thier eye.

Steve Buscemi- He's awesome I have to admit, but it pisses me off that this guy probable doesn't get as much work as he should because he looks like a genetic experiment gone wrong.

Peter Stormare-Stop the fucking accents already, jeeze.

And Finally

Jim Carrey- You have to be fucking kidding me. Really what the fuck..........
