ROTS Premiere Magazine Tidbits

1. "The Duel" is 20 minutes [cross cutit seems]
2. The Twins are a combination of animatronics and live action
3. Ewan didn't give AOTC his "all"
4. The Duel will not be artificially sped up [says Lucas]
5. The Duel will be intercut with Yoda's fight with Sidious
6. It was made apparent that Lucas had "too much" and had to cut a lot out that did not deal with Anakin's fall
7. More classic "attitude" was put into the script [Carl Cunningham can you confirm?]

There may be more but I'm too lazy to look. Very interesting, and unfortunate the duel will be cross-cut. I do like the idea that Portman poured over Carrie Fischer's performance from ESB to get Padme right in ROTS.

I've got the magazine in my bag today, just haven't had the chance to look at it yet. By the time I get home tonight (whenever that may be) I'm pretty sure I'll have read all the Star Wars related stuff in there.

This makes me excited for the eventual dvd... but I wonder how many versions of the dvd we'll have to go through before we get to see it all, if ever. Lucas can reissue these movies until the end of time with little tweaks and little extra tidbits here and there. 2007, 3D... we're in for the long haul here, but it's all good.

In the meantime, I need to pick up some of those books that have been released lately.

It's interesting that when Ewan isn't giving his "all," he still out-acts everyone else in the flick.

Basically what that meant was that when Lucas was writing Episode 3, he worte so much he had enough material for more than one film, so he had to cut it out and not include it all in the movie. So it isn't any of the deleted scene footage that we have heard about, it was other stuff that never made it to the script.

I hate hearing this crap! They had the burden of carrying what could have been the BIGGEST and BEST sequels ever concieved and now we hear that 'they didn't try to act well'? what the hell is that? I think Liam Neeson falls in the same boat as Ewan kinda half-assing it. He was saying lines in Phantom Menace like he just woke up from a nap.

Can we redo parts 1 and 2? Please?

I can understand MgGregor not giving star wars his all, especially after TPM. As much money as the film made [and it's my favorite of the PT] it was still a vast disappointment and from what I've read about Ewan's process, not a fun film to make. He also came off of Moulin Rouge and went right into AOTC and during that process the Moulin Rouge sets were torn down which really upset him [to make way for Star Wars]. Ewan considered Moulin Rouge to be one of the best films of his careers, a career high. So, factor that high into the process of creating a mostly digital film where sets are few and far between, green/blue screen more than abundant and days when you're acting a scene with no one, with the direction of an eye-line.

Give Ewan a break [and Neeson] they were the best thing about the prequels as far as Jedi were concerned. They are top actors who were used poorly and many times underused. I'd have a hard time giving obvious mediocrity my "all" as well.
