Ugh. Is this movie really happening? It looks like a SNL parody.
what the fuck is that shit on his lip? He looks like Eddie Murphy playing one of his white guy characters.
i think that is just a shoddy fan pic.

Routh does have a slight resemblance to Reeve, and they seem to definitely be harkening back to the look of Reeve's Clark Kent.

I think it looks promising.
a bit too much make up huh?
It looks like somebody tried to photoshop out a mustache or something. Just...weird. Maybe its a spoiler. In this film, Clark gets split in two, much like in Superman 3, and the evil version, named Tim, sports a stylish mustache.

Nowhere near as bad as I had feared, but the hair does indeed look like something from an SNL sketch.
Man, it's scary how much he looks like Reeve, bad wig notwithstanding. Brings back a lot of fond childhood memories.

He also looks pretty muscular and bulky, which is good.
Not that it's real important but is this guy funny that way? Not funny haha but you know what I mean. I thought I heard that somewhere on this site but I didn't pay much attention. Again, not that there is anything wrong if he is, but you know what I'm saying.

are you asking if he is gay?

I dont know. But Bryan singer is, and so is Ian Mckellan, and so is Famke Jannsen (hehe not really, but saying she is makes it easier to live with the fact that I can never attain her)

Maybe singer has a penchant for hiring homosexuals in his movies.

Hugh Jackman does do broadway...

BTW, this is all sarcasm.

Not just did he do Broadway, HE HOSTED THE TONY'S! Of course I only know this because I was channel flipping while a football contest was in halfway intermission, yeah, that's the ticket!

Well whether Routh would rather nail Lois Lane or Jimmy Olson he sure does look like Reeve.
He looks like an idiot... which is good for Clark, I think. Let's have some pics of him in the tights.
Let's see him act. I'm folding my arms and saying, "Show me" to this whole affair.
this is a slightly baffling pic...it does look like someone has photoshopped a bad teenage 'tache off the guy but the pics coming from sydney showing some street footage of the Boy and Ms Lane make my pants stiffen with anticipation. This year is a veritable cock tease of Shit Hot Ass Punching Movies.
The glasses low on the nose, the dorky haircut, the suit, man, the guy does look a hell of a lot like Christopher Reeve. I think its very promising, and I think the naysaying and bitching about Routh as Superman needs to stop until we get good pictures and a trailer showing his acting. I mean, Singer discovered Hugh Jackman as Wolverine for God sakes, I think we can give him the benefit of the doubt.
I guess, but Hugh was a proven commodity as a stage actor. Routh is a FAILED soap opera actor.
I don't care if he's a failed experiment in Dr.Mindbenders laboratory, the boy looks the part. Love those 2 pics of him looking mighty ticked off. Promising pics so far, though i must honestly bash Lois "Soul Glow" hairdo. Bosworth has proven she can look far better than that in previous films.
Sarah Michelle Gessner was apparently a successful soap star...doesn't mean she can act. Failing a soap just means you can't act under those types of conditions, which are completely different from a film set.

Course, it's still entirely possible that he's bad for the part...but Singer has yet to screw up in the casting department.

*whisper whisper*

Well, ok, there was Storm, but I'm trying to forget that.
He looks the part but the rumor over at DarkHorizons is that they will go with the SPOILER
Death of Superman storyline; i.e. he gets killed and resurrected more powerful but without the cool bionics.
/SPOILER

Don't worry, it'll stop soon enough.
That uh.....doesn't even look as good as the original. It's ok, but the tweaks aren't an improvement.
Costume looks nice and safe. or faithful. Whatever way you look at it, its very similar to old 'stume. I'm curious to see if he can act, what with all the rumors going around saying that he sucks.

I like Kate Bosworth somewhat, but in general I'm not too excited about this film.

I got the high res pic full size , anyone wanna see it?

I can't post it yet coz it's not on the news page yet. PM
post #29 of 134
Yeah, a safe design. Routh does not have the stocky build to pull off a more solid looking Supes, thou.

Also, big mistake on the collar... just makes his neck look that much smaller. Reaves' square jaw and thick neck really helped sell Superman (and the open collar really helped).

That costume looks ridiculous...
It looks like a Superman costume. What's ridiculous about it?
I think the big problem here, besides the not black hair(hopefully just cause its an early pic) and the lack of red, is the low-rise briefs. Now his torso looks long and his waist thin. Or maybe he's just not built enough.

I don't know, but I just don't think Superman when I see that.
If he'd passed me on the street, I would think "oh my, what a ridiculous suit". Sure, he may be able to fly and shoot laser beams with his eyes, but still the costume looks like crap. I think I would've changed it a bit, the colors not as bright, a different belt. More futuristic possibly?

On closer look I don't think "woah that's cool", or "this is how I'd imagine an extremely powerful alien man fighting for earth". He looks like someone of the Mystery Men. MR GLANCE - glancing his enemies to DEATH.

I know.. it looks like in the comics, but I don't like it, just my 2 cents.

Didn't like Reeves' dress, didn't like Cain's, don't like Routh's.
They chose the wrong color to tone down. They dilluted the red, which should be striking. A deep blood red would have been more appropriate. What they should have toned down is the blue. A dark navy would be my choice.
It's funny how 2 little things like the collar and the paste-on logo can irritate me so much.
The guy's definitely got the build for it, though.
I touched it up a bit

Just so everyone knows, brandonrouth.com has a high-res full body picture. and yes, I submitted this as news before I brought it up just in case. Anyway, let the fan photoshop manipulations commence, Ii guess.
They apparently watched Spider-Man way too much.

I've seen worse....but the lack of bulid on Routh concerns me.
Looks much better.

One of these days, we'll have to learn not to rush to conclusions based on rumours and insufficient evidence.

Oh, who am I kidding?
Lack of build? Really? I have my complaints too but this guy's physique isn't one of them. He's a bit too youthful looking but he looks better in the suit than any of us ever would.

really not the point - I daresay that Maguire carried more lean body mass for spidey than Routh has there, and Superman needs to be big - not to the point of an '85 Arnie (for example), where the bulk might apparently impede rapid motion, but certainly bigger than he is in that photo.
I wouldn't judge Routh's build too soon. For all we know, this could have been an early costume test picture before he had a chance to bulk up. To me, his upper body looks bigger in the Clark Kent shots (especially his neck/shoulder area) than he does in this costume picture. We all know that they would have put him in the costume early in the production to see how it all works. That would also explain the brown hair as well, although some of it could be the result of shooting with available light outdoors. Hell, if this was a costume test shot, it may not even be the final design. There's something about the composition and lighting of this picture that screams test shot to me. For example, the highlight on his chest almost obliterates the S logo detail when it should be emphasizing it instead. It doesn't strike me as a serious publicity portrait. I've worked with professional photographers before and even done some freelance work myself, and this picture would not have been my first choice just from a photographic standpoint.
Repeat after me: Superman is not a bodybuilder.

The guy's built. It's absurd to talk of "lean body mass".

P.S.

Since this was published in USA Today, it was given to the paper by the studio. Therefore, it is a publicity photo.
If the "S"was bigger this would look fine. I'm not really a fan of the symbol on the belt or the daredevil looking boots but no biggie. The biggie is that i think the "S" is too small making his build look too thin and his pants look like lowriders. Either way all i really care about is if this guy acts like chris reeves, and singer makes it look cool. I never really considered this would beat out the originals in terms of being a one of the best superhero movies. I could never amp this up as being the end all be all of comics to film and the films development hell track record never gave much faith in such a situtation taking place. but as long as its entertaining and looks cool without changing the mythos of supes I'll have fun with it. kinda like different takes on the same character by 2 different comic writers/artists. As long as its superman "the character" and he does what supes does (fly, heat vision, ice breath, lift large vehicles with ease) it should be fun.

Now if Tyzor shows up, then i might be a lil concerned.
I guess I'm the only person that would really like to see J.J. Abraams' bonkers take on the Supes mythos...

Should I be glad that I don't know/remember who this Tyzor is?

lbm being merely an alternative to talking about bulk, which constitutes bitch tits just as much as it does muscle - alls I'm saying, is he looks a tad weedy. However, as the fella (xbutterx) above says, we haven't seen hardly anything yet, so let us not get our knickers in a twist.

have a google for the JJ Abrams superman script review over at aicn

The Superman costume looks fine.
It's the Clark Kent costume that looks wrong. Did they travel back to 1977 and swipe it from the set of the original?
