The shot on AICN is an altered version with the eye color corrected. Here's a close-up head shot of the same image that I downloaded from Brandonrouth.com before the hi-rez AICN shot went up. Dark Horizons also has the same unaltered hi-rez image with brown eyes.

Death of another superhero film....
It's been a day now since I've seen it, and the more I look at it, the less I hate it. Let's look at it this way, the costume for Batman Begins in still photos looks a bit shit, it gives the appearance of being just as bulky and immobile as its predecessors, but in *action* it looks like it works fine, and the flexibility is there.

I'm not saying that this won't be a Green Goblin situation, where if it "looks like a duck and walks like a duck..." or that this film won't be the giant clusterfuck that it's been revving up to be for 10yrs now, but my eyes have adjusted to the thing, and until I see it in action, I can live with it.

It's not like I have a say in the matter, and I just can't see myself missing a Kevin Spacey filtered Lex Luthor, can't do it.

Wait...they're not using Elfman's iconic theme with Batman Begins?

I'd hate to be that composer. No pressure. No, really....

I know they have their detractors but I'm sure James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer will survive just fine.
I'm downtrodden and sullen thanks to this picture. The lack of black leather, or anything remotely resembling THE MATRIX has made me break out in hives. I dunno, it seems that each person with bandwidth is better suited to making a Superman costume look like a Superman costume. I think I'll drink myself to near-death, and wait for THE FLASH publicity photos to finish myself off.
No interest in this movie, really. Superman's never been one of my favourite super heroes and the more images and news I see for this new movie the lamer it looks. But hey, I'll watch anything once.

I don't know....Crimson Tide and Pirates had some pretty forgettable soundtracks....

Forgive me if I missed something, but has anyone heard or read a single word from Brandon Routh since his casting? It just now ocurred to me that I've no idea what this guy even sounds like, or what his attitude is towards this whole thing (I'm sure he's as happy as a pig in shit, but still...).

CRIMSON TIDE is a highly effective and memorable action score that's probably among the very best of the Zimmer/Bruckheimer collaborations. Sorry you don't like it. And PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN was scored by Klaus Badelt.

If you want to talk "forgettable," how about these Danny Elfman scores: WISDOM, SUMMER SCHOOL, HOT TO TROT, FLUBBER, MY FAVORITE MARTIAN, PROOF OF LIFE, THE FAMILY MAN, SPY KIDS or HULK. Elfman's turned out some fantastic scores as well but he's not above the occasional dud. I also find Elfman's superhero scores to all sound like variations on the same faux-operatic goth-carnival music he turned out for BATMAN. So I'm glad that he's not scoring BATMAN BEGINS. A new Batman, a new vision, a new score. Now if only they'd not gotten that tattooed dwarf-hack to write it, I'd really be excited.

As for the Superman costume, well, I hope Warners forces Singer to consider some of these fan-made Photoshop alterations. One or two of them are vastly superior to what Singer came up with. Vastly.

It was a joke, Litmus...and I own both soundtracks.

Badelt is Zimmer's protege, and Zimmer has partial credit on the score. Tell me the themes on the disc don't have his fingerprints all over it.

As for Elfman, I don't care whether he scores it or not, or what his other endevours sound like...that theme...not the score, but the theme...nails the Dark Knight, and is tough to beat. I hope the do beat it, because I would love another fantastic soundtrack on my shelf.
But it's going to be tough to pull off.

Any news as to who's scoring Singer's opus, here?

Sorry, this amused the hell outta me...

Actually, I think I like that one best. That should but a sarcastic comment, but it isn't....

That's not Zimmer's fault. No one forced Badelt to go through the Media Ventures score-o-mat. Fellow MA alum Harry Gregson-Williams seems to be breaking out nicely on his own. But I guess you get hired to score a Bruckheimer production, a certain type of score is expected.

Elfman's BATMAN theme is okay. The only thing that's really going for it at this point is that it's the theme that everyone identifies the first two BATMAN movies with. I bet JNH and HZ can come up with something just as effective.

Sorry, I'm still waking up...but that's another joke, right?

"Any news as to who's scoring Singer's opus, here?"

I'm pretty sure its his usual Editor/Composer Extraordinaire John Ottman. I also heard somewhere that they plan on using William's themes in the film, so we're probably in for something similar to what Ken Thorne did for Superman II/III.

And if its a joke, well then its early, i'm hungover, and my sarcasm detector must be out of whack.

It's not a joke, Litmus just thinks I'm odd...I'm hoping it's Ottman. He was sorely missed on X-Men.

"That's not Zimmer's fault."

Fault? It's fantastic soundtrack...unless you're driving through a speed trap zone.

Here's an old clip of him talking about something: Superman Returns

Thanks, I appreciate that.

Now that I've seen that clip...now, I'm worried.

Of course, it could be the rest of the news report put me into diabetic shock, but...

Nothing to do with me, bwana.

Some douche did it.

Bryan Singer just can't catch a break with some of you. He wisely changes the X-Men from their ridiculous, eternally shitty rainbow assorted costumes into sleak, black ones that fit the cinematography, and fanboys bitch and moan. Then he takes the iconic, Americana Superman suit and puts in on screen with virtually no changes, and people get pissed again. If you're embarassed by the suit, why do you like Superman?

All these little details are going to be pointless until we see it properly shot in footage and Superman in action. And until I see him playing Superman, I reserve opinion on Routh. Singer saw something in Australian Hugh Jackman playing Gaston in "Beauty and the Beast", and I guess he saw something in this guy too.
In my case, I'm not a big Supes fan, I just like Bryan Singer.

I think these two look pretty cool side by side. Two of my favorite characters are in good hands again as far as I'm concerned.

*Edited because I had a bad image fuck-up.
Batman is now capable of snapping Superman in half like a twig. This makes me indescribably happy.

I think it would be hilarious if the Bats/Supes movie was using these same actors. Not only is Batman intellectually superior, hes also looks more physically imposing! Score! This Supes has a good athletic looking build, but when I think about the strongest SOB in the DC universe, I like a little bulk to go with that image (This is why Juggernaught needs to be a big guy too!). Whens the last time you saw Superman drawn from the same template as Robin?

Well, maybe if the rest of his figure was bulked up to match those thighs haha

As for the costume, Im not a fan, but I dont know how much they could change other than the collar, shield, lowriders and leather booties.... I guess in essence thats what a modern Superman costume should look like, since tights are 'out'.. but the muted colors just dont work for me. Ill take the full technicolor glory blazing blue and ravishing reds of Reeve's Supes any day of the week
post #130 of 134
Personally, , I think a Superman Tee tucked into Levi's 501s and street boots would be a fun change.

But I'm odd, as it has been pointed out in this thread.

Hmmm... I wasn't really worried until after I saw the picture.

I agreed with the choice of Bryan Singer as director. (Two words: McG.) As a big fan of the original film, I was digging the retro vibe. I even dug the pictures of Routh as Clark Kent. (From what I understand, the resemblence to Reeve's 70's Kent is an intentional in-joke to Routh's Kent being "out-of-fashion" with the times.) Then came the Suit.

Bottom line: When it comes to playing superheros, you either own the suit, or the suit owns you.

Chris Reeve owned that suit. Even in his screen test, with the cheap costume and the sweat stains under the armpits, he owned the suit. Based on this photo, Brandon Routh hasn't reached that level yet.

I'm guessing that this is some kind of rushed promotional test photo, considering the lack of contacts and the hair (length and color). (He may also bulk up more over the course of filming; even Reeve hadn't completely bulked out when they started filming.) But I'm afraid this is the final design of the Suit, and I'm not digging it yet. The muted colors, the high collar (which makes it look like he's wearing thermal underwear), the cheap plastic belt, the small shield and the Daredevil boots.

I'll reserve final judgement until I start seeing some footage or some better photos. But I was hoping for something that looked more... authoritative.

And enough with the Gay Conspiracy theories. This is starting to sound like an AICN Talkback. If you want to discuss Superheroes in Gay Cinema, watch Batman And Robin again. (The disco lighting! The rubber nipples! The BatCrotch!)

(...with all due respect to the CHUD Gay Community...)

p.s.--How exactly do you post images in the body of these messages?

CHUD's message board has a built in "Insert Image" command (looks like an icon of a mountain w/ moon, located just above the area where u type in the text). Requires direct link to the image you want to link... also I recogmend pictures under 600 pixels width (any bigger and it screws up the tables).
